BROWN HANKY #2: Scat Fetish & Fantasy

Rate this book
BROWN HANKY #2 traces the skid-mark left by its predecessor BROWN Scat, Fetish & Fantasy - the author Sven7ven first book on the taboo subject of scat; or more specifically GAY SCAT. Insightful and brutally frank, packed with exclusive interviews with players from the gay scat community including online models, porn stars, artists, video makers, etc., who talk candidly and lift the toilet seat to give the reader a peek into the lavatory. BROWN HANKY #2 is for open-minded adults only and not for the tight-assed. If brown is your colour this book is a must-read.

This was was a fascinating read. I don’t have a scat fetish personally but I’m very curious and compassionate about fetishes that are considered “extreme” and it’s often hard to find literature approaching such fetishes from a positive, non-shaming, psychological or developmental lens. Often all you can find is erotica that leans into the revolting or depraved aspect of the fetish, which can isolate readers who aren't already aroused or familar with the subject matter. This was a rare exception where the author and most of the men he interviewed clearly sought to demystify and celebrate scat rather than languish in the taboo. They really worked to explain why it appeals to them and how they arrived there, and by the end of the book I truly
understood the theoretical appeal. Furhermore, this book was an unexpectedly vivid snapshot of gay history and pre internet cruising culture, which I really appreciated. I think so many young gay people are deeply disconnected from the past and don't understand how recently homosexuality and gay pornography, let alone niche content, was criminalized and regulated and difficult to access. Many stories in this book spanned the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, and it served as a stunning reminder of how mich the aids crisis affected gay sex meets ups, sex clubs, and the distribution of publications and personals ads. Im grateful
to the men in this book who not only opened up about their fetish, but about their sometimes painful and frought history as a homosexual. Honestly a great read!

I read the paperback copy of this and it is the first in the series I have read, as the actual first book seems to be out of print. As far as I can tell, the physical copy is the same as the Kindle edition that is listed here other than having a different cover.

The interviews in this book are really interesting, fetish content aside, as an anthropological history of the gay male community, pornography, and how personals ads/cruising changed with the dawn of the internet. Fetish-wise, I so appreciate how the author and all of those interviewed repeatedly highlighted how much tact is necessary not only to speak openly about but also to make good content in this field – there is no honor and very little fun in doing something gross for no reason other than to be disgusting.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about these subjects without stepping directly in them, it is tactfully written and explains details thoroughly enough to be understood with zero introduction or association if need be while still being captivating to any reader. To those who are more well-versed, there is still plenty of interesting background information on familiar sights, sites, and scenes, I was especially surprised to see Robert Mapplethorpe mentioned!
