I feel dumb for never knowing about Annie. So many women created/worked in science and never got credit due to sexism/racism/fragile male egos.

I think the message (a quote from Annie's mother, repeated twice in the story) is "You can be anything you want to be. But you have to work at it."

The story shows how Annie came from a background where most girls like her didn't go to college, but she did. She dropped out when she got married and they moved to a town without a pharmacy school. She started working at what-would-become-NASA as a computer.

There, she paid for her own math degree (because the company wouldn't pay for hers). She and some others organized a wear-pantsuits day to let women knows they didn't have to wear dresses or skirts. She talked to students and organized employee picnics. She played sports like golf, tennis and skied and ran.

Annie sounds really cool, but I don't think this book does her justice. There's no real story arc or coherence.

Doesn't really feel like a full/coherent story. Talks a little bit about Annie being good at math as a child, ending up working at NACA/NASA, and then working for work to treat people more equally.
