Frosted Donuts and Fatal Falls (A Donut Truck Mystery – 5) Cindy Bell *****
Joyce and Brenda’s life has just become a circus! When Donuts on The Move, accept the offer to have their food truck on the grounds of the circus, they never dreamed they would be caught up in a murderous act. Their food truck was to supply the donuts to the circus crew until the opening night, when they would be able to start serving the public. As Joyce slips into the tent while on her break to watch the trapeze act practice, she watches in horror as one of the artists falls from an extremely high height! Shocked, she goes to find Brenda as the police and paramedics rush in. With the arrival of Detective Arthur Crackle, their thoughts turn to possible murder, rather than a tragic accident!
Cecilia, the owner of the circus, persuaded Joyce and Brenda to stay on as vendors as a benefit to the employees. With the suspicion of murder, the women decided this would be the perfect time to put their sleuthing skills to work. They agree to stay on since they already have list of suspects to check out. Now, it’s a race against time to uncover the killer before the circus moves out of town.
The story line was enjoyable, as well as, trying to figure out the “who-dun-it” part. With several suspects to choose from, I was challenged to find the murderer. Insight to our character’s lives is always favorable, especially as we watch the relationship develop between Joyce and Detective Crackle. If you are a donut lover, this just might make you crave donuts! I received this book from the author in return for an honest review.
Brenda Barker and Joyce Waters, owners of Donuts on the Move, are set up at the circus. Sophie, Brenda's little girl, is so excited to see the circus. The day before the circus is to open there is a tragic accident. Rocco, one of the trapeze artists falls to his death while rehearsing for the show. Someone has cut the bolts on one of the bars that Rocco was reaching for. Detective Arthur Crackle is investigating Rocco's death. Joyce wants to help him find the killer. Her deceased husband Davey, was a detective and Joyce discussed many cases with him. Brenda saw Rowan Stout, the one of Rowan's Shoes and Socks in town, walking around the outside of the tent. They also saw two men looking for Rocco that Cecilia, manager of the circus, ran off. All evidence points to a clown because of the large shoe tracks near by. Brenda and Joyce have become fond of Raphael "Slappy", the clown. He is the father of Paisley, a young girl that he and Cecilia have told to stay away from Rocco. Other suspects include Joey, a large man that helped Cecilia get rid of the two suspicious men; Carter, a member of the set-up crew; Sal, a man who wanted in the trapeze show; and Cecilia. This is another great Donut Truck Cozy Mystery. A must read!!
The characters continue to grow, the stories are real, and trying to figure out the murderer is fun. I did know who but not why, so the book still held my interest to the end. I can't wait to see what Joyce and Arthur bio with their relationship. Sophie reminds me of my caretaker's granddaughter, who is very sweet and smart, also.
I don't know if I am losing interest in this series. Joyce as the oldest shouldn't be involving Brenda in her law breaking ways. Brenda shouldn't give in just because. Joyce always justifies her actions and yet Detective Crackle finds nothing wrong with her breaking laws or sticking her nose into a police investigation.
I liked this cozy. Set at a circus, Joyce and Brenda, donut truck owners have an adventure that leads to deceit, manipulation, and murder. Different story but an easy read. I figured out the culprit only a few pages before the reveal, so this is always a sign of a good book, when I do not figure out who did it until late in the book.
Donuts at the circus. Turns out there was much more excitement off stage than on, resulting in a fatal fall of a trapeze artist. Was it an accident? Or murder? Could the culprit be a clown? All evidence seem to be pointing to it. Of course, the donut ladies don’t seem to think so.
The circus comes to town . An awful accident or was it murder? So many suspects and twists. Joyce and Brenda , of course try to find out who done it? A few secrets change suspicion and add to the suspects. I love the whole series. Could you add the recipe for the donuts lol.
I love Brenda and Joyce and can't wait to see what they get into at the next Donut Truck stop if you love a great cozy with characters you will love then this series by Cindy Bell is a must read
I've been enjoying this story , Frost ed Donuts, from the series stories, Donut Truck, the women are busy baking donuts, and chasing crooks. The author has been able to write another great story, featuring our favorite pair of baking detectives.
Joyce and Brenda have a donut business. They set up their donut truck at the circus. Joyce discovers a dead body. She gets involved in trying to help solve the case along with Brenda. There are a lot of suspects to work from. A good clean read with a good recipe at the end.
