Combining the known and the radical – with a checklist thrown in between – Tassilo Weber’s “Life Extension Design” is a curious if not intriguing read. Hopping onto the bandwagon that conveys the lure of longevity, Mr. Weber proposes a set of measures that alternate between the logical and the skeptical for leading a life in longevity, if not in perpetuity.
“Clean up your social media channels and start following Peter Diamandis (also subscribe to his Abundance Insider), Ray Kurzweil, Aubrey de Grey, Singularity University, and Futurism. Join Facebook groups around the topics of longevity and life extension. Subscribe to Maximum Life Foundation’s newsletter on maxlife.org. Make forever-healthy.org your life extension Wikipedia. Inform yourself about rejuvenation therapy providers on www.reju.tech. Join meetups with life extension communities in your city if they exist. If not, consider traveling to other places to meet with such communities. Meeting like-minded people is a priceless experience. Also check out the RAAD (Revolution Against Aging and Death) Festival in San Diego. It’s the most important life extension event right now.”
Even though the aforementioned paragraph appears at the fag end of the book, they more or less set the theme for the reader. A visible pattern emerges as Mr. Weber enthusiastically feeds off the effervescence (some would argue far-fetched) of the 71-year old American inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil. Whether it be citing the fact that Mr. Kurzweil consumes an astounding seventy-seven supplements per day (yes you read that right) or deifying him as being one of the pioneers in the quest for extending lifespans, Mr. Weber leaves no room for guess work as to hi predilections and inclinations.
The appeal and novelty of Mr. Weber’s book lies in the sequential steps which he charts out for enabling the reader to lead a healthy, stress-free and contended life. These steps would pave the way for the ultimate extension of life when the concept ultimately fructifies. Based on the concept of Design Thinking, these steps are:
Capture: “Start where you are by interviewing yourself about the basic life extension areas” Jump start: “Get some inspiration for your first steps of self-improvement” Plan: “Learn to use the first design tool to navigate yourself towards health optimization” Experiment: “Internalize an experimental approach to life and learn to use the according tool” Orchestrate: “Get to know the advanced areas of life extension and manage them with the orchestra frame”; and
Master: “Program yourself for long-term success and constant self-iteration.” Three key elements in each of the aforementioned phases according to Mr. Weber are Open, Experiment and Working. “Open means that you haven’t started to tackle it yet. Experiment means that you filled out a Self-Improvement and an Experiment Frame and are in the process of experimentation, while there is still an existential gap between present you and future you. Working means that this gap is more or less closed, and for now you’ve found a set of habits that makes you the life extender you want to be in that area.”
Found within each of these phases is a set of to-do things that holistically go towards improving both the physical and the mental well-being of the reader. While usual suspects such as Yoga, Meditation, exercise and dietary regimen make the obvious cut, more unconventional are some of the “Kurzweilian” proposals. For e.g. “For advanced prevention, or rather an emergency back-up in case you don’t make it till the point when rejuvenation technologies are available, you can make a cryonic preservation contract with Alcor or Cryonics Institute. To cover the costs, you have to take out a life policy and pay an additional yearly membership fee to your supplier of choice. It is a somewhat laborious back-and-forth process to set up a contract and make all the arrangements to ensure your head will be frozen right in time after your heart stands still, but it’s absolutely doable, even if you live outside the United States where both suppliers reside.”
To the credit of Mr. Weber, the more sweeping and non-traditional measures are not suggested as either sacrosanct or uncompromising. He along with the more widely followed approaches, refers to these as ones that are available.
On the whole “Life Extension Design” is a book that has elements of surprise as well as sense.
Life Extension Design, by Tassilo Weber Self-Published. 2017 170 pages. Genre / Topics: Non-Fiction / Health and Well-being, Personal Transoformation, Life Extension
This book is a manual / workshop for the self-management of the person, focused on the redesign of the person's thinking and actions in order to maximize their quality of life and reduce, as much as possible, the adverse effects of aging. Written by the co-founder and CEO of Yolife GmbH, the text is part of a scientific revolution about which little has been said in public: Life Extension, the aim of which is to extend the quality and duration of human life, and ultimately to completely stop aging. The concept is simple: aging is a process of cellular pollution and progressive damage that can be slowed down, stopped, and reversed through gene therapy. This is where "design thinking" comes in: an intuitive, immediate and iterative method of redesigning human experiences so that they become more in line with the particular needs and with the project of a better future for each person, and that serves as a bridge to prolong life until the ultimate goal of stopping aging through gene therapy is a palpable and accessible reality. The book explains in detail the 5 phases of the method: Capture, Plan, Experiment, Orchestration and Mastery.
Although achieving sufficient longevity to become part of the first generation that effectively defeats cellular degeneration and its biological consequence, death, currently seems like something from science fiction, the method proposed in this book is a realistic, logical, free, iterative and accessible path to improve the quality of one’s life, rethinking the question of age and prolonging, as desired and as possibly, life itself. Whether or not one shares the ideal of reaching the singularity that avoiding death would mean is something that is totally on each reader’s side of the court.
The author has been clear, concise, logical and consistent in his approach and development of the topic, and has designed the book in such a way that the method can be followed as a basic personal workshop. The fundamentals are exposed and organized on the table, while the details remain as a task so that each one, with the freedom and responsibility that every project entails, takes the next step towards a better and longer life. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their quality of life from a holistic point of view that includes both physical and mental health.

Life Extension Design, de Tassilo Weber Auto-Publicado.

Tassilo Weber escaped death and decided to make it his mission to discover the secrets of life. After studying philosophy for 7 years he said he eventually found the concept of transhumanism and singularity as an answer to the purpose of life. After more life, business and coaching experience, he says:
"There is one question that guides my life: What is the potential? When I apply this question to my life in general, the answer is: life extension. When it comes to death, I’ve become an ironist in the sense of Richard Rorty: I have made my peace with death and accepted my own mortality. Still, I do anything I can to fight it and make aging and death optional in the future."
That's the basis for his book Life Extension Design.
Life Extension Design challenges readers to reconfigure their life to live longer. Weber presents a plan which is completely customizable and built off of what does and doesn't work for each individual as well as accommodating changes in the individual as well as within the field of modern science and medicine as time progresses. The book breaks down the reconfiguration process into bite-size chunks:
1) An introductions to life extension and design thinking 2) The basic major categories for life extension including nutrition, exercise and metal health followed by suggestions and best practices. 3) The next step involves experimentation to see what does and doesn't work for you as an individual. 4) The next step includes orchestrating your life to manage an maintain the changes that worked in the experimentation phase as well. 5) The last section of the design is mastering the practice using a strategic approach for optimum long-term results.
If you are looking for a way to extend your life in a practical and methodical way that is fluid, I suggest picking up this book. I found it, at the least, an interesting read that will make you examine your life and routines, if nothing else, if you perform the exercises in the book.
**Disclaimer - I was provided a free copy of this book by @TasteNonfiction in exchange for an honest review.**
I was looking forward to reading this book and I must say I had high expectations. Seeing the author' history and desire to challenge death I though he found something incredible. The first half of the book is very well written and well documented. It provides a scientific look upon how human body works and what to do to improve it. Eat well, exercise, sleep well and enough, relax. The basics with a little touch of documented science. The second half of the book was a disappointment for me, probably because I am not young anymore and spent a little more time learning about the human body. What I know for a fact is that the human body (especially the liver and kidneys) does not like pills, in any forms. Pumping yourself with vitamins for the rest of your life seems a bad idea for me since you will see the damage in the liver only when it is too late (the liver disease is detected only when the organ is under 10% of its function). The author gave Ray Kurzweil as an example since the guy takes 77 different supplements per day. The guy shows his age easily so I guess, from a glance, that the vitamins don't help his life extension project. But what was the cherry on the top was the author's suggestion that everyone should take Metformin, because it is such a great pill. As a reference, it is not, it has a lot of side effects and it is used to keep blood sugar in range. It does not treat diabetes, it keeps it in leash. You stop taking the pill, and blood sugar goes sky high. All in all, I recommend the first half of the book. For the second half, proceed and follow at your own risk.
The book is one of the self-help books that I have read so far this year. I think I have delayed writing this blog, waiting for the right moment. I have been immensely moved by the introduction chapter, where the author has described about silent revolution and how exponential technologies have contributed to it. I haven’t read a self-help book where someone has actually mentioned about genome sequencing and artificial intelligence. Aging has been described quite scientifically, I should highlight on that. The author mentioned that “Aging can be defined as damage and loss of healthy cells through accumulated cell junk, mutations, and incomplete reproduction.” The author has also described that aging is still not considered as a disease. We are a generation of people who are fighting with the greatest pandemic of decades. The next segment describes about design thinking. “Design thinkers say: we don’t know what works, we can only assume.” Design thinking mentions on the process of problem solving in a very unbiased manner. Then, the warm-up begins with the exercises giving by the author to help you design your life in a better way. I am not gone to reveal alot from the book, but I enjoyed working on the exercises given in the book.
This was certainly an interesting read, from the first sentence - you are drawn in by intrigue, because the topic is something most think about at some point in their lives. 'If your life can be seen as an interaction of experiences of yourself ... why not redesign it toward ... meaning' - this quote in particular caught my breath, why not? This books self-improvement frameworks highly useful. I gave it a second read through, I like to be thorough in my examination of anything that puts myself into better context. The 'experiment['s]' or exercises in the book are not too long, which is important if you are to slot them in between the trudge of life, so it is appealing in terms of the self-help genre, more so on heightening your understanding of the way in which elements of life impacts such as nutrition. I think as the world grows this book will become increasingly read, the appeal of a healthier later-life, the development of your life-span, is an appealing one for many. I'd recommend reading through before starting the work-book exercises, it is always nice to see the scope of the book first and to go back with a clear idea of what your working toward :)
"Find and Feed Your Purpose" and that is what Tassilo Weber has done by writing this book.I recommend people to consider picking up this book in hard copy not in an e-book. I find reference books and self-help books to more useful in hard copy for highlighting, and in Mr. Weber's book, I believe readers would find a hard copy of the book more practical to put its concepts into use, i.e. the forms and the examples of the forms he includes in the book.
I liked the author's non-judgmental approach to redesigning your life while some of the concepts I don't agree with, I did enjoy reading the book. It helped me to investigate life extension even further. believe the author could have gone more into depth within each chapter of the book which is why I rated the book only 4 stars.
The author is very passionate about the subject matter and it shines through in his book. I look forward to reading future works.
The description caught my attention, “become part of the first generation to choose whether to age and die….or not” and I wanted to know more. An interesting scientific read on anti-aging. I enjoy reading about ways to improve your health and live longer and was very curious to see what this book was really about- choosing whether we age or not? Really? I admit I was a bit skeptical as a few others mentioned but this book really does provide you with a plan to live longer. The author offers very practical ways to improve and enhance one’s health and ultimately extend one’s life. He literally gives you the roadmap to a healthier life with the tools and worksheets he provides. These tools will help you challenge your current view and help you experiment with new ways of living and well…who knows perhaps decide whether you age and die or not!

This is the kind of book you call genuine and to the point. It does what it's supposed to do, it makes you want to live a healthy and happy life. I won't say that it was very interesting or marvellous but yes it was the kind of book that kept me up reading till 3 in the morning. When i had started this book i genuinely had never thought i would be hooked reading it. It is not because it is something full of mystery or a story that you want to know the climax of. The content of the book is such that it just kimd of flows and makes you want to read it furtger because it creates an urge within to start living a healthier lifestyle. Yes, i highly recommend it because if you live healthy, you will live happy and this is what this book has done for me; it has inspired me to start taking my health seriously and do something for myself.
Being a health care worker, I was really interested in the book from the summary. Thought of it a way I could get some of my clients to be motivated by reading this. Overall it was good read but definitely won't be recommending.
Reason for said thing is that although the author has provided lots of scientific evidence but there's nothing new or enlightening. It's the basic things such as sleep, relaxation, exercises which are wrapped up differently and presented as something new.
Also I believe that the excessive use of any supplements and other pills are very detrimental and one must try to go as natural as possible.
Hence it was a good read but not something I would recommend as one needs to use ones own discretion for what to follow and what not.
Honestly, I had mixed emotions about this book. I liked the book, I liked the ideas and the unique perspective on Life Extension and the exercises in the book. The author really researched the first half, of the book all the science side and basically all the information on how to live life healthy with the normal aspects. The second half of the book really started to have me look over different aspects of my own life and want better. The book is a great perspective and definitely a great choice for anyone wanting to change thier life for the better.
This is a good book to read if you are looking at optimizing your health and well being and want to live beyond the expected years. The author Tassilo Weber makes the book easy to read and gives you a wealth of information about new innovations regarding health and longevity that are at the forefront of modern medicine. If you are looking at improving your life and enhancing your body and mind then this is the information that you need.
Life Extension Design by Tassilo Weber is an interesting scientific read on optimizing your health and well being. This book provides you with a plan to live longer. The author offers very practical ways and tools to increase one’s health and life expectancy.
Thank you to Booktasters NonFiction and Tassilo Weber for a free copy in exchange for a review.
The science of life extension is budding, with people like Jeff Bezos of Amazon fame investing in it. I am not sure I buy into it 100%, but the book was a really good read. Through the process of design, this book guides you through making your own plan for life extension. If anything, this book will have you looking closely into your lifestyle and see how it may be affecting your longevity.
This was a very interesting and informative read. This book provides you with optimizing your health and well being from a unique perspective. The author really did his research. The way aging is looked at and how your lifestyle can affect it. It definitely made me look at my life somewhat differently. I do recommend it, it's a good read.
This was pretty interesting to read. Never would I ever thought that aging could be looked at in this way in this book. Some of the things written, registered to me as to what is done to slow the aging. Makes me look at a lot of things differently. So much info and truths to what was written.
I found this book to be an enlightening read. The ability to change is in our hands, and to design and map out a future on our own terms. A lot of it makes sense, though I found the section regarding taking pills, vitamins etc a bit daunting. Quite inspiring though in places. Worth reading.
A very informative and life changing book on how you can extend your life in a healthy way. I am interested in healthier and safe ways to enrich and protect your body inside and out, so this was a great read.
If a book has never made you contemplate how you live your life, Life extension Design will shatter your beliefs. This book makes you dissect your life and reconfigure how to live a longer and healthier existence. This will change your thinking in the way you look at and approach life. The author explains how to look at your life as a science experiment. Evaluating life in a scientific way will help you look at multifaceted aspects of your life. The author has also provided exercises within the book to help break down your physical and mental health. They help create a plan for the future. The book makes you confront problems within your existence. He teaches that life extension is constant self improvement. The author breaks down how eating, meditation, and exercises expands your lifetime. The book helps you put oxygen back into your life. This is the first book that I’ve read that says redesign yourself according to your potential. This book will give you the tools to help you successfully complete tasks in your life. The first few pages are monotonous to get through, but the rest of the book is rewarding to read.
