Absolutely phenomenal resource. Slater is a wonderful, concise author and this book is truly in-depth. I only wish there was a sister book for the other side of the river, as this has become my handiest field guide.

This study, compiling the results of years of extensive, painstaking research into local ancient burying grounds and vital records, is priceless for the wealth of information it contains. In addition to describing and illustrating the artistic styles and components habitually used by the creators of these works of art and iconography, Dr. Slater also discusses what little is known about their carvers, much of this biographical info having been unearthed by him in the course of his studies.
