Julian Le Mort was incredibly lucky. Most Wiccans caught outside the wire end up doing hard time. Some just disappear. When the Witch Hunter offered him a choice between a trial for black magic or enlisting in America’s counter-sorcery unit, Julian jumped at the chance. Ten years in the Army is a better gig than life behind bars.
But when his unit is ambushed in Mosul, Julian discovers that surviving the operation is the easy part. As the only witch working for Shadow Company, he’s automatically suspect. What’s worse, the investigator sent from Washington is the same Witch Hunter that embedded Julian in the Company in the first place.
With the first of the Four Horsemen now on the loose, Julian must figure out how to banish the Horsemen and find the real traitor. But first, he’ll have to betray everything he believes in.
I wrote this book, so I can't give a rating in good conscience. However, one thing potential readers should note: this is an adult fantasy . . . not that there's any romance or erotic content, but the main characters are military and they speak like it. There is frequent profanity. If that's not to your taste that's fine.
The book is set in an alternate world where Germany won the second world war through the use of magic. The European Reich (supported by Thule Society sorcerers) is in a Cold War with America and it's counter-sorcery special forces units known as Shadow Company. That Cold War is heating up as the Thule are attempting to raise four demon princes known as the Quarternary of the Attitude and bring about Hell on earth.
"I've gotten to the point where I say, "Enough" with putting the main character through the wringer. I know who the antagonist is, and, frankly, I don't really care anymore. Maybe I'll finish this another time, but right now I have a few other books on the docket that I want to read first. I will admit, this guy did a better job than I did with my series, and for that, I give him four stars.
