This book contains 2 novels. The first one, Battle Tested written by Laura Scott is about a military nurse, Vanessa, who has been targeted by the red rose killer. With the help of Captain Isaac Goddard, she manages to escape death but the killer has no intention of giving up. And now Isaac feels responsible for her. But can he keep her and her brother who suffers from PTSD safe while battling his own PTSD problems. There is an interesting twist at the end of this segment. The second novel, Valiant Defender continues with the story of Captain Justin Blackwood who has been tracking the red rose killer with his team and their k-9 partners for a long time. Things heat up when the red rose killer kidnaps Captain Blackwood's daughter. Both books have characters who are blessed with k-9 partners and contain lots of twists and turns. Well written by both authors.

Two stories, by two authors, but part of the same mystery.
#1 is Battle Tested. A military nurse who works with personnel who come back from war with PTSD. The book is filled with K-9. Those who track and rescue, those who bring down criminals, and those who are emotional support. The story involves the nurse becoming a target of the Red Rose serial killer set on killing anyone whom he believes rejected him, or who is to blame for his military failure.
#2 is Valiant Defender regarding the Captain who is over case #1 who not only is another target but so is his 16 year old daughter. These stories fit like a glove. You'd never dream they're separate stories, separate authors. Highly enjoyable reading, and mystery. He was a clever one all right.

Two Air force men find the loves of their lives well on base.

Enjoyed being with both of these authors Vanessa and Isaac story was exciting from start to finish. Isaac became Vanessa hero and protector. Two bad men were after her. Isaac tried to keep her safe. In doing so he fell in love. They were able to catch the one that was hurting airmen and also helped her brother to get better. Gretchen and Justin story was exciting too. They were after a killer and he came very close to taking to people Justin carried about. As he and Gretchen worked together they fell in love. He and his team finally got the bad guy. Will read more by these authors.

I enjoyed these 2 stories which deal with The Red Rose killer. Laura Scott starts the story which vaguely deals with the Red Rose killer. The second story by Shirlee McCoy actually deals with the Red Rose killer. I enjoyed each story as they deal with how K-9 dogs help emotionally support the characters and help bring justice.
