“Pendle” is a fantastically produced book about a distinctive hill in East Lancashire and links the famous witch trials of 1612 to modern photographs of the area. Beautiful photos abound but equally interesting are the smaller details, for example the dry stone walling shots.
Using sumptuous photos, Alastair links present and past, ancient communities to the modern day guardians of the countryside. I love the tree photos and Bridgette was amazed by all the flora and fauna shots.
Alastair lives close to Pendle hill and it’s obviously had a dramatic impact on him and this comes across throughout the book. Not knowing the area at all, I came away with at least an understanding and a desire to visit so the very evocative choice of photos and words have done their job.
Feeling inspired to explore other photo volumes by Alastair.
