Although the legendary White Stork is the best known of all storks, it is only one of seventeen species that appear on six continents. Here is an introduction to these fascinating water birds of the world, including a close look at each species, giving distribution, size, and plumage. General chapters give accounts of their feeding behavior – explaining that some have specialized diets with bills suited for their particular food – courtship displays and breeding, nesting habits, development of young, movements and migration, and storks and man. Throughout are black-and-white photographs of the storks in their natural habitats, all taken by the author.
