A detailed study of the social position and role of women in Etruscan society between the 9th and 5th centuries BC. Amann draws on a wide range of sources, including archaeological evidence, especially that recovered from burials, epigraphic and linguistic evidence, iconographic evidence from Etruscan and Archaic Greek art and architecture. The study also takes account of secondary sources, notably Hellenistic and Roman authors, and compares the position of women in Etruscan and Roman societies.
