Dr. Mark Miravalle, husband, permanent deacon, and father of eight, earned his Sacred Theological Doctorate at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. Dr. Miravalle has been teaching at the Franciscan University of Steubenville since 1986. He is President of the international Catholic movement, Vox Populi Mariae Mediatrici (Voice of the People for Mary Mediatrix). Dr. Miravalle is known for his international lectures in Mariology. He has addressed several episcopal conferences, including that of South India, Nigeria, Venezuela, and Costa Rica. In addition, he has served members of the episcopal hierarchy with preliminary investigations for reported apparitions, and has made many conference appearances as well as several television appearances, for example on EWTN and Fox News. He also produces a biweekly Mariology television show for www.airmaria.com.
Dr. Miravalle is the author of numerous books and articles in the area of Mariology and Marian private revelation.
At just over eighty pages of text, and with 324 footnotes, this is a well-researched, but heavily theological and fairly dense work. The author does his best to advocate for a dogmatic definition of the Virgin Mary as coredemptrix, mediatrix, and advocate. He seemed quite confident John Paul II would do it (this was written in 1993), yet neither he nor his successors have pulled the trigger on this (I suspect mainly because it is fraught with misunderstanding among Christians and even Catholics).
For those with a strong theological background or, at least, well-read and intimately engaged in the Catholic faith, with a strong interest in Mariology, it is recommended. For those relatively new to Mary, or those wanting to learn, in-depth, basic Catholic beliefs in Mary's role in salvation history, this is certainly not the place to begin. I always recommend "The World's First Love" by Fulton Sheen for starters for the engaged and interested reader.
This is theological in nature and deals with issues about Mary that various religions struggle with such as coredemptrix, Mediatrix, Advocate, etc. There are various papers provided by different authors who specialize in each area. I has a lot of good information but it is a theological work so one needs to be "studying" this issues to really read this one which is why I only gave it three stars. It is not a hard read but ones interests can wander.
Whether you agree with the proposed dogmas or not, this book is well written and excellent in its development. Certainly not the final word on the discussion but I was very challenged and encouraged upon finishing it years ago.
