Sherlock Holmes: Murder on the Brighton Line and Other Stories

Rate this book
Female body parts are left outside buildings across the coastal resort of Brighton. Sherlock Holmes is called to consult on the outrages with the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Constabulary, but he and Watson find themselves at the heart of a different mystery.

Who is the gentleman found dead in a first-class compartment of the London to Brighton express? The victim has a fortune in jewels and a fabulous painting in his luggage. Who killed him? Holmes tackles the Murder on the Brighton Line case despite the obduracy of the police sergeant in charge of the official investigation.

In the second story, Holmes and Watson visit the Crystal Palace where Holmes has arranged a rendezvous with a mysterious, and murderous, lady. Holmes has but a few days before she must submit to a fate worse than death. Or is all as it seems?

Next, the Amateur Mendicant Society is in turmoil as two deaths occur in their secret clubhouse. Are the deaths connected with a mysterious discovery in the basement?

And has the skull of William Shakespeare been stolen from his tomb in the Holy Trinty Church in Stratford-upon-Avon? Holmes’ investigation leads him to a momentous discovery, and involves a bizarre duel of wits with a Tibetan sage and a Prussian nobleman.

Four stories of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson told in the traditional style.

I've lived most of my life in Africa, Asia and the Far East manufacturing handicrafts and teaching. I decided to quit regular work and write. There wasn't really a plan, just an instinct that I could write in different historical and contemporary settings.

I completed a Sherlock Holmes novel trilogy in which Winston Churchill, aged twelve, joins Sherlock and Watson at 221B Baker Street. All are available on Amazon.
My semi-autobiographical coming-of-age novel, Hamlet and Me is on on Kindle and soon in paperback. A boy learns about life as he moonlights at the Old Vic theatre in London during the rehearsals for the O'Toole Hamlet in 1963.
Two collections of Sherlock Holmes short stories are also on Kindle and paperback, and another novel, Sherlock Holmes - The Scottish Question, are published, and I will make Hamlet and Me and a book set in Ancient Rome in 475 AD available on paperback in 2016.
My comedy on the aftermath of the crazy 2016 US presidential elections on Kindle and in paperback.
Have a look at my blog for other stories.

An pretty good read. The first story, which is half the book is too long, with so many characters you can't keep track. I think! the guy what dun it is introduced in the last few pages, so not a stellar story. The second is short and a bit silly. The last was good enough for me to see what's in the next book.

To my ear and eye there isn't much 'authentic' in this pastiche, but I've read a lot of those stolid attempts at authenticity which, in general, are quite boring. Holmes and Watson may not be authentic, but they're not boring.

Never enough Sherlock Holmes.

Mike Hogan captured the sky humor found in the originals. He also has a good feel for the relationship between Holmes and Watson.

A very good collection of pastiches. Mike Hogan's take on the characters of Holmes & Watson differs somewhat from the original however the result is just as pleasing. Can't wait to read more.

Excellent stories

These stories seem to follow A.,Conan Doyle's stories very well. The characterizations follow Mr. Doyle's characterization very well. Excellent author.
