Eighteen years old! A new bride and eager to see what life had in store, Sandra Martin Morgan arrived at her new home, an old farmhouse surrounded by acres of mountain fields and forest in the hamlet of Rowe Hill. She never imagined the wonder and work, triumphs and trials, and many lessons that awaited a young mother on a hardscrabble Maine farm. Through it all, the woman raised in Greenwood Center remained a daydreamer who never lost her wicked sense of humor. Join Sandra Martin Morgan on her last journey back to Greenwood, Maine. The family we fell in love with in Growing Up Greenwood are all here—Ma and Dad, brothers Tinker, Rex, and Curt—in more wry, rib-tickling adventures. From her near catastrophic driving lessons to a truly epic struggle to vanquish a shirt from the legendary Mammoth Mart, this final collection of stories is guaranteed to surprise, delight, and move her many readers. Sandra Martin Morgan was a celebrated columnist and writer from Greenwood, Maine.
Sandra Martin Morgan was the mum of a friend of mine from high school, and though Gary and I grew up somewhat differently, the places and people that his mum wrote about in this book are my places, and my people. I have taken my time reading this, Sandra’s second and last book as I have not wanted to leave Maine in this literary form as I have physically. If you grew up in Maine, and are a bit of an old coot like me I ‘spect you will love this book as I do!
