He has demons. In the Navy, men don’t come tougher than Sr. Chief Petty Officer Brogan Malloy. However, every man has his breaking point, and Brogan reaches his when a good buddy and fellow SEAL is killed. After delivering his fallen comrade’s final letter to his parents, he never expects to be swept away by a gorgeous, troubled, young woman.
She has fears. Every season Chelsea Harrison honors the brave fallen with flowers, and the last thing she expects to find at her brother’s gravesite is his tormented, grieving team leader. Warm embraces and kind words are all she can offer to soothe his pain. Anything else beyond that, she won’t. She can’t. She has fears.
Touched that a woman like her would even look at a guy like him with his rough past, Brogan is determined to standby her and break through her defenses…for she’s stolen his heart and he doesn't want to lose her.
But will their love for each other be enough to heal their wounds?

This book had all of the elements that I really like, but also a few things that just annoyed me enough to knock a couple of stars off.
One of them being that the author had the habit of tending to repeat the same thing over and over again within a very short amount of time. I get that she was showing the severity of these issues, but after a few chapters it takes a toll. First, the H drinking/pill addiction. We get it. It's a daily struggle to stay sober, and stressful situations make it even harder. However, I never saw the H use techniques to resist the urge. He was three months sober and had been through rehab. I find it hard to believe that they don't teach you those, and having a bottle of alcohol right next to you sure isn't one of them. I get that it was for the bf in the grave, but come on. Ridiculousness to the max!
The next one was the h inability to trust/be close to another man. Yes, she was raped and thus thoroughly traumatized. Completely understandable, but she also never sought out help or even got counseling until the H asked her to. It happened over two years ago, and it seems like it wasn't for lack of money/insurance. The H at least did something about his issues while the h just chose to hide from the world. So, she finally does get help, but after three months she is still in the same place. It didn't even seem like she was willing to try to move passed kissing. I appreciate that the author gave this serious subject time and attention, but having the H getting constantly shut down with no progress forward got old really fast. Fast forward toward the end of the book and the H tells her that he loves her and magically all is healed and full steam ahead. Right...talk about a 180.
The others were minor grievances, but the "ex booty call" is what really irked me. I mean, we have a H who knows and played the game for years then is suddenly oblivious that his behavior was completely unacceptable. Letting another woman, especially an ex, kiss you on the mouth in front of your current girlfriend, totally not cool. Not only once but twice. Then she keeps pawing him and receiving all of his attention. Yeah, no. I wouldn't have tolerated that for one second. I also can't stand when authors have characters doubt themselves because of complete strangers instead of trusting the people that they have known for more than a hot minute.
The H "dying" out on a mission right after they finally got together was a little too cliche for even me. I did like learning about other flowers besides the most obvious ones, and the fact that that they were included throughout the rest of the book was really sweet!

I loved every one of these stories and to have a longer Flowers for Hero made it all the more special. Coming from a huge military family the tribute to our men and women who keep us safe really touches my heart.
Flowers for a Hero by Tara L. Ames (Another 5 Stars!) : Brogan is in North Carolina to deliver a letter to one of his SEAL teammates family who was killed. He knows that he has PTSD and that drinking won't help the memories go away from a mission that went FUBAR. When he meets Chelsea whose truck is broken down she gives him a mini course in the meaning behind each flower this she's taking out to her brother's grave (He doesn't know that she's Will's sister). This story really touched my heart with how Will's family and sister take in a broken SEAL and give him the help and family he needs to combat his PTSD. This picks up where the novella !eff off with Caroline moving to San Diego and when several former girlfriends of Brogan's show up Caroline will have to decide if she can deal with them and not be jealous. He's now an instructor for BUDs but when his team is needed to rescue a SEAL, Delta and Recon teams under fire in the Hindu Kush Mountains Brogan will have to stay behind with 4 men while the rest to for extraction. Caroline will keep hoping he'll be rescued instead of MIA will the Teams find Brogan and his men in time?
I loved this cover. It was brooding and beautiful, intimidating and timid, strength and softness! This story is tragic in more than one way. So much to overcome for Chelsea and Brogan. My heart ached for both of them, but it was exciting to see them both work to make the changes that made them better people for each other. Some may read the story line and feel like they moved along a little to fast, but I found it all totally believable!
A moving and emotional story. recall of sexual assault
Traumatic experiences have shaped them and their out look on life. Can they get their happily ever after or will fear and the military keep them apart? 5 stars I recommend this book
An easy to read short and sweet military romance. There are times when it feels very realistic and I hurt for the characters. I wanted to jump into the pages and tell them they weren’t worthless or that everything would be okay.
Brogan Molloy was the team leader when he lost one of his men and one of his best friends. He had the arduous task of delivering Will’s family his final letter. Whilst driving he came upon a girl who was broken down, she was like a breath of fresh air mixed with sunshine. After helping her he set out to deliver the letter and pay his respects to his friend. This was one of the hardest things he’d ever had to do and it had him teetering on the edge. He needed to get back home and lose himself in a woman or maybe it was time to make some drastic changes.
Chelsea was a physical therapist, visiting her family when she broke down. She wasn’t a useless female, she’d checked everything coming to the conclusion it was her battery. When he pulled up and asked her if she needed help. There was something about him that drew her in, but she kept her distance. Trusting people she didn’t know, especially those of the opposite sex didn’t come easily for her. Setting about her usual task of planting flowers on the graves of her brother and those who had lost their lives, she found him slumped over in grief. When Chelsea realised who he was she invited him to her family home for dinner.
I absolutely loved this story with Brogan and Chelsea each having their own demons to battle, while helping each other with theirs. I felt their love for each other through the pages. The ending had me in floods of tears.....brilliant!!!!!
I really enjoyed this book. First time reading Tara L. Ames and I would read her again. Her characters had great back stories that gave meet to this story line - Brogan was the alpha male with the heart of gold and a sexy body to go with it. Chelsea was the gorgeous yet vulnerable mate for Brogan. Both proved worthy of each other’s love. One of the significant romantic touches was the story behind the flowers - that, and the “letters” gave me a tear (or two and more) - lovely story - well worth reading.
A sweet romance, filled with healing and promises of a brighter future. Everyone has something to conquer from their pasts, but it's easier said than done. Happy reading : )
