The Killing Agent

Rate this book

The evil that men do lives after them,

The good is oft interred with their bones…

London. Cardiff. Edinburgh.

The worst terrorist attacks that the UK has seen.

A country in turmoil, a government in disarray.

Intelligence agencies with no leads or suspects.

Lovat Reid, a veteran covert operator with the Special Intelligence Group, is tasked to help track down the mastermind behind the attacks. With his partner Nadia, an officer from the Special Reconnaissance Regiment, they soon realise that they are dealing with an individual the likes of which they have not seen before.

When another atrocity is carried out, the entire weight of the Intelligence agencies and Special Forces is thrown behind the effort to find the terrorist responsible. But for Lovat, something isn’t quite right. Suspecting a dangerous power-play between the agencies, Lovat digs a little deeper into the background of the terrorist suspect.

And is stunned by what he finds.

With a race against time to halt the next attack, Lovat and Nadia find themselves fighting a war on two fronts as they strive to uncover the depth of deception while hunting the master terrorist.

From the killing fields of Kandahar to the back streets of London, the consequences of a secret assassination program are brutally levelled against an unsuspecting British public.

Another edge of the seat thriller from the author of Only the Dead and Fear of the Dark.

Excellent book overall. Not a huge reader and usually struggle to keep interest in a book however this one gripped me and was finished within a week. Not quick for some but lightning speed for me!

The story relates to a terror campaign within the UK and the authorities attempts to keep on top of what is about to happen and their pursuit of the suspects and although fiction is very relevant to the world we currently live in.

A great and thought proving read. The author certainly gives the reader a lot to think of throughout the entire book. You are given insights into the thoughts and aspirations of many characters, even though a lot of them only make a brief appearance. This is the third James Mack book I have read and I have always found them to be well thought out and intelligent. Highly recommended and a well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

And breath.....phew!!

Absolutely brilliant. It's one of those books that granbs hold straight from the off. I absolutely loved the MI5, MI6,SAS and Special services. This book had it all. It was so accurate you felt you were there. It was a break neck speed that didn't let up and I loved it. The charachters were well developed and you're not bogged down by their personal lives so every page was about their mission and security. Amazing....

An absolutely brilliant read! This is the second book that I have read by James E Mack and I must say that I I think he is a terrific author as both books have been awesome. This book reminded me so much of Stephen Leather’s early writing style. Well written with brilliant characters and a great build up of tension throughout. All that I can say is that I hope that he keeps them coming!

This would make an interesting film

The strong characters and compelling storyline, with terrorist acts in th UK made this a difficult book to put down.

If it hasn't been done already I would love to see this made into a film, but please use actors who can do justice to the tale.

Magnificent - A Work Art.

The murky world of espionage is well described in this thrilling tale, which has many a twist and turn.

Difficult to put down and very well written - a master piece.

Great read.

Gripping read from the offset, a believable story without the fantasy that is sometimes found in this genre. Looking forward to reading his next book.

Not his usual standard

Pretty clunky, poorly developed characters and a slow story arc….

Nowhere near as good as Asset 7 or Sins of the fathers….
