What if you could text with Sojourner Truth? Alex, a curious child, gets to do just that! Alex texts with civil rights leader Sojourner Truth and learns about a woman who is celebrated on international women days. Sojourner escaped slavery in the 1800s and went on to champion civil rights across America by giving speeches and fighting for what is right. It’s a biography for kids that uses modern day texting bubbles children understand and enjoy!

This is the latest book I've read in these books for children about people from history. I really enjoy them as they're a very accessible way to read about historical figures, and I always learn something! In this case I knew nothing about the subject, so it was doubly interesting, and I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for some basic information about the life of Sojourner Truth, or of black women and slaves at that time. I'm looking forward to seeing who's next to read about! NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
Very good presentation of this woman life for children Very good simple biography for children but that explains the life of an American abolitionist who defended the rights of slaves and women throughout the United States, when she was born at first slave. The description of the country during this period and slavery is very clear and very interesting as to the rights of each. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
The author did a great job asking questions from a kids perspective, and answering them in a way that is relatable to young children. I also appreciate the ability to capture the child's emotions and empathy. The concept of a text message conversation is a fresh approach to children's books that is very effective. The author did the best job teaching history in an approachable manner. Great job!

Basil has a way of making smart commentary on current events while teaching about historical figures. I did not know much about Sojourner Truth before reading this book. It allows for great dialogue between kids and adults as they try to navigate through our world.
