Everyone said to let her go. To let the devil and her dark masters have her. But he can’t do that. He just can’t.
Everyone told him Cass couldn’t be saved.
All of them, even Allie and Jon, Cass’s childhood friends, believe she’s too far gone.
She chose the darkest of dark paths, betraying everyone who loved her, nearly killing her best friend, Allie, and destroying Allie’s mind in the process. After Cass became a minion of the dark being, Shadow, she nearly killed them all. After everything she put them through, the rest of their team mostly wants her dead.
But Balidor can’t bring himself to let her go.
Using his vast abilities and psychic training, he leads Cass through the darkness of her own mind, trying desperately to bring back the woman he loved before Shadow broke her.
In the process, he is forced to face a darkness in himself, something he thought he'd left behind long ago.
SERIES NOTE: This is a companion novel to the Bridge & Sword world, and takes place between books #8 and #9 in the main series.
Synopsis for the Bridge & Sword Series The Bridge & Sword series is a psychic romance set in a unique, gritty version of Earth populated by a second race of psychic beings called Seers. Its heroine, Allie Taylor, marked "The Bridge" from birth, was born to be the leader of the Seer race and the bringer of the next stage in humanity's evolution. To many Seers, that means the death of just about every human on the planet.
She is helped and hindered, awakened and impeded by her antihero partner, Dehgoies Revik, whose on-again-off-again relationship with the dark beings known as the Dreng may destroy them both and the entire human race.
JC Andrijeski is a USA TODAY bestselling author who writes sexy, apocalyptic and cyberpunk-y science fiction romance and mystery books, often with a metaphysical bent. Her dystopian science fiction romance series, ALIEN APOCALYPSE, features Jet Tetsuo, survivor and slave under alien conquerors, and her GATE SHIFTER series is about a shape-shifting alien and a tough-girl PI from Seattle. Her newest launch is QUENTIN BLACK, a science fiction romance and mystery series that’s a spin-off from Allie’s War but set in our own version of Earth.

My overwhelming feeling about this look into the minds of Balidore and Cassie is their despair and humiliation It is very easy to hate Cassie for what she has done but nothing in life is black and white. Here we get a little glimpse into their shocking childhood. We see their empathy towards each other. This is not about crimes and retribution but redemption. We are given a chance to understand them a little better. It is easy to condemn what we don't understand. How different I feel at the end of the last page than I did at the beginning of the first! I now see a glint of light.
Cass betrayed those close to her. Opens with Cass a prisoner. Could tell this one was part of a series. I wasn't familiar with the characters/world. As a result, didn't really get into this at all. No investment on my part. None. I do have the first book (to read of course- it was free at one time).
From the Bridge & Sword world Andrijeski tells us the story of Balidor and Cassandra. One of the most beloved character and probably the most hated character. Ms. Andrijeski has intertwined their backgrounds and early years for us to ask, are they similar in upbringing that Balidor can help bring Cass back from the dark dangerous person she has become? Lots of backstory if given for both characters to let us love more and hate less. Thank you!
Cassandra is restrained in the highest possible security cell. This is the story of Balidor secretly trying to help her recover from her evil conditioning. Will he succeed? Or will Cassie subvert Balidor instead?
There is great sensitivity in this book along with confusion and fear. I especially liked the wonderfully drawn characters and realistic dialogue.
So Cass and Balidor have gotten to know each other very well and share horrible secrets from their childhood. This psychic story is fantastic. I hope I will see more in the conclusion of Alleys War.
I have missed too many of the in between books to get all the background references but mostly this is just 2x soft porn short stories using the Allie's War characters
Balidor had been told she was a lost cause after Cass betrayed them all to Shadow but he refuses to give in on her - he knows that he can use his psychic training to go through her past and bring her back to him. As he goes through this with her he will help her go through her dark past and finally go for broke as he does everything he can to bring back the woman he loved. Can Balidor bring Cass back or will he lose her forever?
Wow - now I understand Cass and what her childhood was like - and it really wasn't pleasant. Balidor's attempts to bring her back were calculated until they became desperate. I liked that sometimes it was difficult to know who was the dominant of the two of them and the different examples of Christmas spirit - both past and present. Well written and very enjoyable - a must-read for anyone who is a follower of this series and wants to understand more about Cass and her motivations.
JC Andrijeski’s A Glint of Light: A Bridge & Sword Novel #8.5 is another companion novel to the fabulous Bridge & Sword series. If you’ve not read that series I strongly urge you to do so. It’s really fantastic. If you have then after book 8 you’re bound to wonder about things addressed in this book. See the publisher’s blurb for what this book is about. It’s tons of fun for followers of the series, and a nice story in general. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next series companion book.

Funny story, A Glint of Light was originally part of a bundle of author novellas and was my first introduction to JC Andrijeski. From then on I was hooked.
This revised novel has all the things I love about Andrijeski -- seductive romance, compelling and interesting characters, and mind-blowing world building. And it brings in a story we had only glimpses of before: Cass and Balidor, one a friend turned villain and one the steadfast hero we never thought we'd doubt.
This story is so touching, twisted up in the dark issues JC is so good at dealing with, yet face head on. I loved seeing everything from this perspective (and reading about our 'main' heroes from the outside!). This definitely an amazing companion novel to the whole series!
The writing in excellent but because I have not read very many of the series I feel the gaps in my understanding some of what is going on. Cass and Dori , I do not know where either fit in Allie's stories/life. But Allie and Revik, I know there was always love on Revik's part for Allie. The fact that they are married shows there are gaps in my knowledge of what has happened. It does make me want to read more.
Really??? I was resolved not to like this book. I mean, Cass!!! I was sh*t-out-of-like for her! And there you go Ms Andrijeski, pairing her with Bali! Wrong, just wrong! And then you turn this into a second, or third chance love story! How could you?! ;-) Well I'm used to underestimating you now, so maybe next time ...? Aaaah, no use lying to myself. I'll grab the next, and the next book by Ms. Andrijeski as long as she writes them!!!
We’ve seen hints that there was a lot more Cass’s story than we’d been previously told. This book fills in some of those missing gaps, allowing us to see why it was so easy for Shadow to turn her away from Allie and Revik. This book also has the added bonus of “humanizing” Balidor by giving us glimpses of his past and explaining why he’s always been so loyal to the Adhipan and the Council of Seven. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

Well wasn't that a lovely ending/beginning for Cass. Loved this story. Cass has suffered greatly as all of the beloved characters in these books have. Redemption and love won and Dori healed her broken soul. I think we're all a little broken sometimes and darkness finds a crack sometimes too and can sink its claws in. The trick is to find the light then hold onto it with both hands.
Oh Balidor, looks like you missed the same cues as Jon & Wreg and Allie & Revik. So much for being older & wiser. This short novella fills in missing spaces from the main books by focusing on the background ARCs of minor POVs. It's great perspective of what was happening away from the major action in the main books.
Fills in parts of the story that appear to have been left out of the original books or maybe had to be cut out to shorten them. Also gives you more perspective on what happened during different times.
I am so freaking happy for both of them! Duty and life be ...... They deserve this and each other. Definitely A Glint of Light in the darkness, to bring hope when everything seems hopeless.
