This is an Irish language novel written in 120 free verse poems from the perspective of two different girls about a relationship that starts online. The premise is that they fall out and it switches perspective. It's aimed at young adults and I rarely read anything other than classics or modernist fiction but this crushed me.
It is beautiful and will make you cry A LOT. It's a brilliant portrayal of youth and love, and the insecurity of young girls. All of it being told from the perspective of two young girls - one revelling in her carefree younger years and another obsessing over growing up - helps to drive home the point and makes it all the more emotionally effecting. I think this is incredible and I cannot recommend it enough. I've never cried after finishing a book but I balled my eyes after this.
P.S. if you don't normally read as Gaeilge but want to try, this is a good starting point. Quite simple but you'll learn new phrases along the way. If you're experienced with Irish you'll appreciate the nuance and beauty of the phrasing, and may pick up some new terms like "féinín" - the Irish word which is far cuter than its corresponding English term - selfie.

This is a the story of Nóinín, a young Irish girl, told through a series of poems in Irish. It's a moving, beautiful story.
I have intermediate level Irish so I didn't understand every single thing but it was still easy to follow. I'd recommend it to anyone getting back into Irish language learning.
