Three friends hike across frozen Lake Erie on a warm winter day, and two of them share a secret. When the trio goes missing, a community wonders what happened...
I was given this book 15 years ago by my sister who worked at a high school with the author. I finally got around to reading it recently. I’m from the town where the story takes place, and the inclusion of local sites, weather, history definitely helped make the book more enjoyable for me.
The story has the requisite romantic interest, but that was a bit stiff and stereotypical. The writing seemed like a first novel effort, which it was. Not a bad story, but probably of much less interest if the reader didn’t live in the area. But I’ll give Jeff another chance to see how his writing has matured.
his book surprised me. The ending moved much more quickly than the beginning, largely in part because it's one of those books where you know the ending of the story at the beginning. Then, you read the story to find out how the ending came to be. There was a small plot twist, which was sad and overall it was quite enjoyable to read a book based on the region where I live. I am looking forward to meeting the author to discuss this book!
A very interesting local story drawn from fact but highly fictionalized. Interesting to read about all of the places I'm familiar with and to get the "what if"? version of a well-known news event from years ago.
