3.5* ARC Review – Long, rock star trilogy
I received the entire trilogy as an ARC from Hidden Gems. Even though I was just to review the last book in the series, it gave me the opportunity to read the first two books. Now it will be a little difficult to review just the final book, as I read all three together. Overall, I found the books interesting and had compelling characters, but it was quite long and took a lot of time to read them.
This is the story of Emily, who is goes to a concert with her best friend Nicki, because both have recently ended their relationships. In fact, Emily catches her fiancé cheating on her three weeks before their wedding. At this concert, she catches the eye of the lead singer, Jack McBride and he invites her backstage. Once they are with the band, Nicki disappears, and Jack tries to convince Emily to spend more time with him. This is the start of complex, rock star romance and beyond their romance, Jack has a stalker. This adds an interesting element to their story.
One of the unique aspects of this author’s writing is that the perspective changes quite a bit. It is not only the two main characters, but also includes the stalker, their friends and many of the secondary characters. Also, Emily has a very complicated backstory that just adds to how difficult a relationship with a famous rock star could be. By the third book, they have some of the issues sorted but it seems like as they get one problem solved more pop up. Both how they would sort out their relationship and who the stalker was, kept me reading and reading! There are points that could have been shortened and at times both main characters were a little too much, but I enjoyed most of the story.
