Wolves Of Gypsum #2

The Red Omega

Rate this book
Lance

Being the Cook pack alpha is harder than it appears. It’s not about ruling over anyone - it’s about leading them and keeping them safe. And I’ve got just the idea to make that happen: unite the packs of Gypsum. Anything else is going to have to come second to that goal right now.

Meeting Mason at a bar shouldn’t be so distracting to my focus. We never even went home together! But when Mason is injured by human hunters, I have to choose: the security of my pack? Or the safety of the omega who haunts my dreams?

Mason

You know those people where everything bad that could happen, always seems to happen to them? Multiply that and apply it to a family and you’ll understand where I’m coming from.

There’s only two of us left in my pack… if you can even call it a pack. The smart thing to do would be to find a mate, but with nothing to offer except a well-developed sense of humor, I don’t think anyone is about to come beating down my door.

Just meeting Lance Cook is a bright spot in my world. Flirting with such a fancy, wealthy alpha, mating with him? That’s beyond my wildest dreams.

The Red Omega is a mpreg shifter novel featuring a brooding alpha, a small town omega, and one guaranteed happy ending. Each book in the Gypsum series can be read in any order.

I need there to be more stories after this one. I love these guys! Lance is a wise Alpha who recognizes strength in numbers. Alan Spence and Ted Decker, older Alpha, showed up to parlay. The issue is the gray wolves are returning to Gypsum and could be good/bad for the wolf packs. Mason and his cousin, Reese White Pack, cannot seem to catch a break. Or so they feel. They are both red wolves, which make them unique among all the local wolves. They are visited by hunters who brag they have politicl clout. At a point, hunters shot Mason and the question arises if he shifted in front of the humans. So, we're having an Evan situation. We get reacquainteed with Evan and Mike and their new baby Amber. Can Lance build a coalition to save the wolves of Gypsum? Will Mason and Lance make a go of it? What happens to Reece? What will Ted and Alan do? Yes, the suspense carries you through the story. I felt my shoulders ache, I was pulling for Mason and Reece so hard. Fantastic story. Amazing series. Mr Walker can write ad infinitum and continue to exceed expectations. I received an ARC from Booksprout for a review.

Love among shifters

Preston Walker just continues to grow more sophisticated in his writing and in his choice of subjects, and if the photograph of Preston on his bio site is actually the author, then you know you are in for a man who knows how to write steamy erotica. Preston writes M/M paranormal shifter romances and does that very well. His books to date include City Wolves, Moonstone’s Stone, Truth in Legends, Firewalker, The Mountain Pack Chronicles - Yearning for the Wild, then Prince Of Wolves, Truth in Legends, Not Wild Enough, Unexpected Love and Love At Sea, Uriel’s Forest, Regal Bloodlines among the many. Now a different take on the M/M Mpreg Gay paranormal Romance (Mpreg being the goal of an Omega with the right Alpha male) – in this very sensitive THE RED OMEGA, Book 2 in his diptych Wolves of Gypsum.

Plunging us right into the action of this novel, we meet the alpha shifter Lance – ‘The air changed the moment that Ted Decker and Alan Spence stepped foot in my house. My wolf didn’t like that much. Breathing took effort; the atmosphere grew heavier with the combined aggressive power of three alpha wolves. Four, really, since my little brother was around. Not to mention my mother. I stared into the bathroom mirror, and wondered if I should shave off the day’s stubble, or just leave it, as I generally did this late in the day…’ The complex personality of shifters is well explained.

The synopsis is tight and well written as an introduction to both main characters – ‘Lance - Being the Cook pack alpha is harder than it appears. Mason - You know those people where everything bad that could happen, always seems to happen to them? Multiply that and apply it to a family and you’ll understand where I’m coming from. There’s only two of us left in my pack… if you can even call it a pack. The smart thing to do would be to find a mate, but with nothing to offer except a well-developed sense of humor, I don’t think anyone is about to come beating down my door. Just meeting Lance Cook is a bright spot in my world. Flirting with such a fancy, wealthy alpha, mating with him? That’s beyond my wildest dreams. ‘

Preston has created three-dimensional characters, not an easy task when molding wolf shifters! His prowess in delivering Mpreg wolf shifter alpha/omega men is highly polished and he just continues to grow as a successful author.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second book in the Wolves of Gypsum series. In this book, Lance is the alpha of the Cook pack and he learned grey wolves were spotted in the area, so he wanted to get the ther pack leaders to work together to get the town to stop the hunting of the wolves and then the shifters would be safe from being discovered and they could run in their wolf forms freely. Lance was having trouble convincing the other alpha to work together and one night when he was supposed to meet another alpha, he saw Mason on stage at the local bar. Mason was an omega, but was often mistaken as a beta and along with his cousin, they were the only members of his pack left. Mason had raised Reese and they were the only red wolves left in the area. Mason played bass in a band of humans and when he saw Lance he was attracted to him. They talked, but Mason left Lance before things got too heated, leaving Lance wondering about him. When Mason was shot while in wolf form on his land by a group of hunters, Lance took him back to the cook home to help him, along with Reese. Mason felt drawn to Lance and thought he was his fated mate, but Mason didn't think he was good enough for Lance, and after he healed he left to go home. Mason also lied about the hunters seeing him shift, and he knew if anyone found out, Lance could be banished also for helping him. Lance was drawn to Mason, but he couldn't explain why. When Lance began to wonder more about if Mason was seen as a shifter, he knew things were going to get dangerous. The hunters were still around and looking to find Mason. i really liked this story. I liked Lance and thought he was trying to do the right thing for everyone, but it seemed like no one would listen to him. It also seemed like Lance was too worried about being the alpha his father expected him to be and didn't realize he needed to live for himself too. I liked Mason, he was like a gentle giant and he used humor to defuse a situation. Mason wanted to protect Reese and to be happy. He was willing to sacrifice himself to protect Lance. Mason didn't think he could be loved by Lance because he was from a poor pack. Another great one .

Lance has been groomed to be an alpha since he was a kid. Now that he’s the alpha of the Cook pack he needs to focus on keeping the pack safe and thriving. He has plans to ensure that and that’s to unite the packs of Gypsum. He can’t afford any distractions. And that’s what’s frustrating him about a chance encounter with Mason at a bar. He can’t get him out of his mind and he’s drawn to him like a moth to a flame.

Mason has been acting as alpha of his pack for far too long. With only two of them left in the pack they’re struggling to survive. Trouble seems to find him and his family. Mason knows he should settle down and find an alpha with standing to help him and his cousin out of the mess they’re in. But alas since most of their pack is gone no one has ever bothered to check on them.

When Mason is hurt by human hunters, Lance has to decide if Mason is worth risking his own pack and their future.

I’m really enjoying this series. I’m still trying to figure out this pack dynamic so hopefully it’ll become clearer as the series continues. The one thing I’ve noticed about these stories so far is that I feel the characters haven’t reached their full potential. They’re right on the cusp of being what they should be but the author hasn’t quite gotten there so far. Not sure if that’s by design or just an oversight. It leaves me wanting more.

I enjoyed this series so far. This is the second book in the series and I would say they need to be read in order because one of the main povs is in the first book and that's where his character is introduced. Also it gives a bit more back ground of the different packs and where they are from and what not. I enjoyed both charcaters even though they were both equally stubborn. I liked how Mason wasn't your typical omega and was seen as strong and independent. You don't see many omegas as strong charcaters often so it was a breath of fresh air. Even is the alpha of their pack and the previous book was about his brother and in this story you get to see the chracters from the first book and how they are doing which I also enjoyed. This was a cute and sweet mpreg book with some steamy scenes in it but not many. It had more story than it did romance scenes and it took a while for the charcaters to really get together and realize how right for eachother they were. This is a fated mate book so I guess it's kind of a insta love story but it usually is in alpha and omega books. Overall I enjoyed the story and read it pretty quickly.

I recieved this book for Free to Give My True & Honest Review.

Oh here we have a strong Alpha Lance Cook & his family whom owns & runs a few businesses in the area & Omega Mason White whose been able to hide who he really is. He & his younger cousin Reese have been on their own or a few years after their grandmother passed, but they've survived.
And its this one night where Mason's out at the bar with the band he's hooked up where the 2 men see each other & the attraction is deep.
Then things don't go easy for Mason when he gets shot whilst he's in wolf form & the White's go to the Cook's home until Mason heels & it's during this time that the 2 men get to know each other better & seem to become closer..
And its from here that things start to go up & down with areas of sadden times where I had tears pricking my eyes, so lots occur mainly for Mason though things look like they were going to go one way the hunters turn up again & it changes things once again for the White's & Cook's...

*I voluntarily read a review copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*

4.5 stars

This is the second book in the Wolves of Gypsum Series and definitely my favourite of the two.

Lance is weighed down by his responsibilities, that come with being the alpha of the Cook Pack. He yearns for a mate but his insecurities hold him back. When he sees Mason, he’s completely mesmerised. When the time comes, he must choose - will he follow his heart?

Mason wasn’t a typical omega - he was huge and had the heart and humour to match his bubbly personality. Poor guy couldn’t catch a break; he was always getting hurt by others. Mason and Reece had been alone for quite some time and struggled to survive yet they never let life get them down.

Lance and Mason had a great connection right from the very beginning. I loved how Mason made Lance laugh. Lance was a completely different person around Mason.

Brilliant story and a wonderful addition to the series.

Lance wants to unite the local packs and while trying he meets Mason.
Wolf shifter Lance Cook is Alpha of his pack and on hearing that grey wolves are moving into the Gypsum area realized that would attract hunters which in turn endangered the shifters in their wolf form. So her calls on the Alphas of the two strongest packs and tries to get them to unite to fight the influx pf hunter but they do not agree. Later he goes looking for one of the at a local bar where a band is playing and he notices one of the band members is a shifter and he can not take his eyes off him. When the band finishes playing the shifter walks over to Lance and introduces himself as Mason. A MM MPreg shifter romance to relax and enjoy.

I always enjoy the stories that have an omega that doesn’t fit the mold. The Red Omega is one of those stories. Large and in charge Mason is an omega who can fight as good as the next person, but is also full of integrity. We also finally get to learn more about Lance, the alpha who had to learn to take his father’s place. To always be focused on the future and not the present.

Lance needs a strong partner. Mason needs a loving family for himself and his cousin. Luckily for them fate steps in to help.

This was a very enjoyable book to read, though with a bit more angst than the first in the series. Well written with solid character development (I really want to smack Ted), a definite must read.

The White pack, rather ironically, was made up of red wolves. 80 acres and two omegas were all that was left.

As news of the return of the grey wolves to Colorado spread, a mixture of joy and fear spread among the shifters. They might now be mistaken for non shifter wolves, if they were grey wolves. The red wolf White boys might be lucky to be mistaken for coyotes.

But shifting in front of humans was against pack laws. Might lead to death or exile.

Getting shot by wanna be poachers might lead to the death of the last Whites in the region, their exile, or the destruction of a fated mate pair and two talented artists.

Love, fighting together and destiny could save them, if they are brave enough to take the leap.

Steamy m/m and mpreg shifter love story - steamy KU read!

Doing the unforgivable leads a rich Alpha to discover his very poor mate. Anger rose when a pack system that's supposed to protect weaker members failed miserably. How could two Omegas be left to fend for themselves without a thought by the many mini family packs that made up the Wolves of Gypsum?

Seeking solidarity and consensus is very difficult when dealing with arrogant independent hard-headed Alphas. Selfishness leads to some preventable mistakes. But it also reveals the presence and undeniable attraction between an Alpha and his fated mate. But grave danger lurks. The pack penalty for being caught shifting and Human Hunters seeing you makes for action, violence, fear, and forces a protective Alpha to step it up. And a very independent Omega to finally accept the call of being fated.

This is a great story about Lance, alpha of his pack, who is struggling to make the other packs understand that they should join forces. He is so busy planning for the future that he is not living in the now. Along comes Mason. Lance meets him one night at the bar. Mason is singing on stage and they are both attracted to each other. The story keeps you engaged with the twists and turns, the ups and downs but also the suspense and drama. Your emotions get involved with the colorful characters, their struggles, and their real emotional needs. This is a great read and I look forward to the next book.

This is the first book by Preston Walker that I have read, so I was coming to The Red Omega completely fresh. Although it is part of The Wolves of Gypsum series, I had no problem with it as a standalone.

Of the two main characters, Mason won my heart first. Despite being tall and well built, there is a vulnerability about this omega that endears him to me. He has a good sense of humour that can appear at the most inopportune moments. Lance is more dour, and takes his responsibilities seriously, too much so at times. Put together, the two work, although one recognises that they are fated mates a lot earlier than the other. So a good plotline provides some angst from this situation, and more drama is given by the addition of hunters.

I really enjoyed reading this entertaining MM romance. I found the story-line & plot well-written & intriguing with well-developed characters that have distinctive, individual personalities.
There is: an alpha of the Cook pack filled with insecurities & weighed down with never-ending responsibilities (Lance), a not so-typical humorous omega with a bubbly personality (Mason), His omega cousin (Reese), wolf shifters, grey wolves, hunters, fated mates, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, action, danger, threats, violence, conflict, disagreements, abduction, pack issues, loneliness, attractions, love, happiness & a happy ending.

Lance is the Alpha of his pack - it isnt long ago that his banished brother has returned home, found his mate and had a baby, and Lance is feeling lonely - but the Alpha has many responsibilities. When he goes to a club and sees Mason distracts him - but when human hunters turn up on their land, and Mason id hurt, Lance has to act. Has Mason broken one of their most stringent laws, and revealed himself to the humans? And what about their attraction to each other? Mason and his cousin Reece are the only ones left from their pack - will they be banished from their home too? Loved this story!

Lance is the alpha for the Cook family. He is trying to unite the different packs for security. He finds Mason and Reese. They are both omegas and the only two left of the White pack. Lance and Mason are actually fated mates but both are fighting it. There are some things that are going against them. When Lance finally realize Mason is his fated mate he has to save him from the human hunters who has kidnapped him. Lance and his brother find him and when he finally gets to Mason he finds out that Mason is pregnant. They have a son and begin to unite as a family.

I blooming love this series
From the start I have loved this series and I'm super excited to share the love I have for this book with you.
I cried buckets - so be prepared and have some tissues ready.
I also had warm fuzzy feelings when Mason and Lance were together - I felt their happiness
And I particularly loved the fact that Mason didn't need anyone's help - but Lance is a knight in bloody armour and he will fight anyone for his mate
Once again I have to say how much I love the series, the characters, the flow of the story and the plotlines are right for my reading enjoyment. Thank you

Lance is an Alpha leader to a small pack of wolf shifters in Gypsum. There are several other small packs nearby whom Lance is trying to unite to help save them from a group of wolf hunters new to the area. Mason is an omega who lives in the woods with his omega cousin. Mason is huge for an omega so he passes as a beta. When Lance sees Mason for the first time he tries to get to know him better but as soon as Mason realises who Lance is, he backs off. When Mason is shot whilst in his wolf form Lance and the other pack leaders are worried he was seen shifting. That is punishable by banishment.

In the second book we get to see more into Lance, the alpha/Evans brother's story. Lance runs into Mason, who is a white pack wolf consisting of only him and his cousin and is immediately stolen away by him, i don't wanna give all the details away but what i can say is this is such a sweet read. Lance, who from the first book you'd label as an A-Hole, actually turns out to be a really caring sweet and sensitive guy, the relationships that builds between Mason and him is heart warming. I'm currently reading the third book Omegas Muse, and downloaded the most recent possibly last book of the series, and i'll honestly say i'll be sad to see this one end.

This is shaping up to be a good series! Liked this as much as the first one, maybe more.
I especially enjoyed Mason not being a stereotypical omega - actually I would have loved for there being even more about his role within the pack/family going forward. The ending felt a little rushed to me - and the solution to the hunter problem was rather trite, I was hoping for something more ... clever.
I expect these two and the further developement of their relationship to be part of the next book, but they probably won't be protagonists then, so on the one hand I'm looking forward to that and on the other I'm a little sad they were cut short.

This is an enjoyable and entertaining story that will have you holding your breath, leaking tears, and laughing out loud. The interesting characters and storyline will keep your attention as there is suspense, danger, passion, and more that will finally lead to love and a satisfying HEA.
Lance is so focused on the future he may end up losing what is truly important. Mason is a very unique omega who covers his feeling of unworthiness with jokes.

I really enjoyed this book. This is the second book in the series but could be read as a standalone.

Lance is the alpha of his pack but he needs help and wants to unite all the small packs together but it won’t be easy. Especially when his love life is a mess. Mason and Lance can’t seem to get it together and are both in danger. They need to figure out the future together instead of apart.

I really like this shifter world that Preston has created and I can’t wait to read more soon.

Really enjoyed this shifter novel, it had a lot of depth. Lance is alpha of his family pack, his mom, brother & mate and their baby. He is trying to get the packs in the area to work together.
Mason an Omega, he and his cousin have been the only ones left of their pack for 10 years, barley surviving.
This is their story,it is about friendship, trust, and using the talents you have to make lie work for you. I feel it is one of the best m/m pregnancy stories I have read this year.

Another fantastic story by Preston Walker and this is book 2 to the Wolves of Gypsum and I loved Mason’s and Lance’s story. Fantastic characters very well written but then it’s a Preston Walker story so do I need to say more?, sorry guys I’m not going to give any spoilers to this one so if you want to know more then read Preston’s blurb and that will give you the gist to this story. This book is a must read m/m story but then all of Preston’s books are and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

I just started reading this author's work, and I have nothing but good things to say. And this book was great. I havent read the first book in this series , but this one was so good. Lance and Mason is the best couple I've read about in awhile. Scorching chemistry, and such great descriptive writing that you feel like you're their watching it. Absolutely amazing.

Not What I Expected

I read the first book. I read the preview for this book and thought it worth a chance but now that I’ve finished I find I was wrong - so very wrong. Nothing much makes sense in this shifter world. Background history is sketchy and disorganized, character actions and emotions fail to connect and the violence feels just wrong or misplaced.

This book is best left on the shelf.
