Kipling, a dragon shifter and a duke, never expected to meet his mate the way he did, let alone that he'd meet her at all. Dalton was attacked, by her own sister, Luann, no less, so she could collect on the life insurance policy she'd taken out on her. What Luann couldn't plan on, not that anyone could, was Kip being able to save her by sharing his blood.
Unfortunately, the transition doesn't go as smoothly as he'd hoped. And while Dalton was thankful to be alive, she hates the reality that choices were made for her and she didn't get any say in them nor her future. She's now bound to her dragon mate for life.
Kip wants to keep Dalton safe, having already fallen for his soulmate, but he can understand her reservations and why she's upset. However, ensuring they get the chance to get to know one another and have the life together they're destined to have is his priority, especially when his family gets involved as well.
The only way to protect her is to once again make decisions for her, though, in his eyes, they would eventually get married anyway.
How will Dalton adjust to her new life and abilities? Can she and Kip work everything out? Is she safe from all the threats surrounding them? Will they ever get to enjoy their mating? Is a HEA possible?
One-click now and follow along as two people, fated for one another, are thrust into each other's path in potentially tragic circumstances.

If you've been following the series, you'll remember there was a woman who had not only placed an ad in the newspaper asking for Griff, using his full name and titles, to contact her. Turns out she's located him and had initially come seeking revenge and retribution for her sister who was murdered by James. Marissa, Griff's mother, came to the woman's rescue, for the lack of another way to describe it, and found a way to give her a new life. Kip Lord Kipling Newton, Duke of Winehammer Castle, is the last unmated dragon amongst the friends that had come to see Danburn for the holidays. Actually, he was left a mess much like the others from his own family that he was trying to get cleaned up. Unfortunately, Kip had been abused by his own family for years when he was younger. At one point, he had gone to Fletcher, Griff's father, and told him about the situation. That's when Fletcher took Kip to the Dragon Council explaining Kip's situation. Not only that but Kip learned his parents were abusing their tears by using the gems to pay off hitmen to set fire to the property they owned so they could collect the insurance. That brought life-changing consequences to them all. Kip's parents were stripped of their ability to make gems from their tears and Kip went to live with Griff and his family until he could come into his own. As a matter of fact, Fletcher even paid for Kip's schooling and had Griff keep an eye on things in case Kip needed anything. Now since Kip has cleaned the castle of all the debris and neglect his family left there, they've decided to come back and expect Kip to welcome them with open arms, support them, and supply the money to bail his brother out of jail. Not really having any good memories from the castle itself, Kip decided to buy a house. While the realtor was taking him to showings, Eric, the realtor, received a phone call his niece had been shot and was in surgery. As rattled as Eric was, Kip drove to the hospital. Seems some came beating on Dalton's door calling her name. When she wouldn't open the door, the man fired three shots into her chest as Dalton returned fire from her own revolver and immediately called 911. Before going into surgery, Dalton has left strict instructions to ONLY call her Uncle Eric and not her brother and sister. This was an epic storyline that brought the families of all six men through all the trials and tribulations until it brought them full circle.
Great ending to the series Kip is the last to find his mate. Dalton is a former police office turn security guard. Kip almost lost her. Their childhoods are uncannily similar. They are both the youngest, both unwanted and abused, and both had people to turn to. Dalton had her aunt and uncle as well as her grandparents. Kip had Danburn, his parents and he friends. Their families are are coming to cause trouble for them both. Dalton's brother wants to make amends. Her sister wants her dead and she destroys Dalton and her brothers chance to reconcile. Kips brother wants to change. Time in prison away from his parents and sister gave him time to reflect. He is granted freedom, on the condition he has no contact with his parents, sister or Kip himself. Kip is proud of the man/dragon he is working to become. His parents and sister are another story. Tired by the council and condemned to hard labor. In their deaths they gave Kip a precious gift. His mother's dragon went to Dalton and his sister and father's dragons to his adopted sons. Fast paced, loved Kip and Dalton's story. A nice epilogue to wrap up the series.
It was all about family. Both Kip’s & his mate Dalton had family members that wanted to kill them but got their just desserts in this book. But, family isn’t always about blood; sometimes families are made up of very good friends that will help each other out no matter what the problem is.
This book was very good in the good vs bad plot & it had at least one sex scene in it but no way was it erotic. But, now it’s your turn to read the book to find out if you agree with me.
Everyone gets their happily ever after and I get to find out how the families grow well into the future!!! I love everything that Kathi S Barton writes! She writes the most exquisite stories of all time!
As far as last books go in a series that I've been reading/waiting for over the past 3 years, it didn't knock it out of the park for me. But it wasn't terrible either, which is always a good thing.
In previous books we've learned that Kipling, aka Kip, probably had the most despicable parents and family of the group of dragons. Over the centuries, Danburn's father was there to save Kip from his family's antics to try to harm and/or kill Kip. He hasn't heard or seen his family in some time, but he knows now that he's cleaned up the castle grounds and has found happiness that it's only a matter of time before they return. But first Kip has to help his new mate with her family issues. Hopefully, her siblings aren't as terrible as his...
Dalton, since she was born, has always had to watch her back around her family. Her parents never cared for her and her sister and brother tried everything in their power to try and harm her. This newest antic to try and kill Dalton isn't something new, but the harm was greater and took the blood of Kip to ensure she survived. However, once Dalton wakes up she won't just skip along joyfully next to Kip, especially since she feels all her choices have been taken away from her now.
In my opinion, I wish that the author would've chosen to have one of the siblings turn to try and be nice. It seemed, from my perspective, too convenient to have both Dalton and Kip's brothers decide all of a sudden that they wanted to be good and they were sorry for what wrong doings they did. I also would've liked to know what happened with Luann (Dalton's sister). She was mad, she was described as being crazy and having killed almost all of her adult life, but what happens to her??
