Things go quickly astray when what seems like a family business becomes a nightmare. Bank loans are due when things start to go wrong as everything goes wrong. A man and his wife is force to house a felon to help things meet as they give him a lease on second chance.

But can they trust this person who is a wild card in the mix of things? Will it be a safe bet or will it be deadly? An intriguing storyline.

It is difficult to like a book when you don't like the main character. Rick just kept making bad decision after excruciatingly bad decision. Plus the writing was a bit stilted. 2.5 stars overall.

My review today is the Christian Suspense, Last Second Chance. This book was sent to me to read. This review is in my own words. The story is well written. I enjoyed the characters very much. They will touch your heart. The situations the family goes through will be very familiar to lot of people. Faith is woven through out the book as in a fine tapestry. I know you are really going to enjoy it.

Rick Powell is the youngest of three children. His father was killed in an accident when he was on a way to Rick's ball game. Guilt is a constant companion to him but he hides it well. When his grandfather dies his oldest brother Jack leaves home leaving the ranch for his mother, his sister, and Rick to run the ranch. His sister Cassie becomes a realtor and Rick goes after his dream of having his own advertising agency. He and his wife and children still live at the ranch but his mother now runs it. Rick and his partner have a falling out and Rick's business can't take the hit. He decided to open a new business and run it the way he always wanted but before he can get it up and running his mother has a stroke. Rick is the only one to take over the ranch. He's sure that he can get up and running quickly and then start his business. But Rick has no training at the ranch and things aren't working the way he thought it would. If he can't figure out what to do and quickly they may lose the ranch all together.

A journey of almost overwhelming circumstances. Can he figure his way through this maze or lose everything? God has a plan for this family, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch him work in your mess.

Last Second Chance by Robert Goluba is a story of faith and redemption. Rick Powell takes an opportunity to run FireSky Ranch which had been in his family for generations. It is clear from the get go that Rick has no experience in the every day operation of horse training or boarding. He is not experienced in the day to day operations so he falls behind and chooses not to let his wife, Felicity or his two siblings know about his financial problems. Rick & Felicity hear about a early release prison program that will allow them to provide a second chance to an inmate and in return, they will receive financial assistance. I started reading this book mid-afternoon one day - it was a book that I could hardly put down because I needed to see what happened next. Last Second Chance is very well written. It feels like you are right there with the characters of the book as a bystander. I hope that there will be a sequel written to find out what other adventures their lives take!

This was a perfect read while on a trip. I didn't have the option to bring a regular book but it was easy to pack and carry my Kindle. The story evolves quickly and the characters are fleshed out and likable. I'm not sure why I'm giving it a three--it probably deserves a higher rating. The story is set in Texas mostly on a ranch not far from Austin. I found it interesting to read about how Texas is trying a system of rehabilitation for incarcerated men by placing them in the home of someone so they can become accustomed to life outside prison walls. But, since this is a work of fiction, that may not be what is actually happening, but the author makes it sound realistic. I was rooting for the characters and hoping they would make the right decision. I'll be checking out other books by Robert Goluba.

This was such a wonderful story. A story of people who are broken, hurt, and in need of forgiveness and redemption. They are in need to forgive and to be forgiven. This story brought out a lot of emotions for me. One minute I was smiling, the next angry, the next irritated.... it just totally captivated me. I absolutely loved it! And the ending was AWESOME! There is so much I could say but I don't want to give the story away. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Christian Fiction. It's a great one!

Last Second Chance is a great read! I sat down and read half of it one morning and finally got a chance to sit down and read the second half. I was impressed by the storyline. The passion. The faith. The opportunities. This book has actually opened my eyes a little more to forgiveness and second chances and has made me consider the things I need to work on.

The story has an interesting concept that would be great to use if it worked. The inmates used for their second chance had to learn how to forgive as well as the main character. Rick learned a lot about himself and his need to forgive. If was a little slow in some parts, but I have enjoyed reading this series and look forward to the next book.

The plot had great possibilities but fell short of my expectations. I didn't like the main character who almost lost everything. He ignored reality and was too proud to accept the help that was offered to him. He didn't even let his wife know how bad the situation was. Finally, he gets a lick of sense and sells some unused equipment at the last minute.

This was a predictable read. The characters were uninspiring. I could not relate to the main character, Rick, as he seemed to loose common sense after he took over the family ranch. I felt the author was using simple words and as a reader I felt a bit insulted.

I read this book in about 2 days! I enjoyed the development of the characters as well as the many suspenseful twists throughout the book. I didn't want to put it down and would love to read a sequel to see how things continue with the families. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a page-turner about the struggles of life and how we are all affected in one way or another.
