Rik Rigers as he is called in the Netherlands (Ric Hochet is his original name in the comics) is a Franco-Belgian comics series created by Tibet (drawings) and André-Paul Duchâteau (scripts). It first appeared on March 30, 1955 in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Tintin. It features a reporter for the newspaper La Rafale in Paris.
This new series created to update the serie to the 21st century with a more modern style does contain the original characters there is only a wee bit more risque behaviour where the original character was somewhat saintly in his opinions and attitudes. The women in this new series do also reflect a newer century and are no longer a female in distress waiting for the Knight Hochet/Ringers to come and save them.
There is a wave of murders in France and it seems close to impossible to get the culprit or culprits and it does not seem to have a solution anytime near, driving the police force crazy. The reporter and his female colleagues find out that there seems to be source which lays in book that describes the prefect murder, hence the Dutch title. (A perfect Murder) When They start looking for the source of this printed novel they find a publishing company hurting by the publication about this particular book which is supposed to come from their presses. However de owner does not seem to be responsible for the act. So who is doing the printing and what is the aim. The Owner of the publishing company does not seem to lack in enemies.
A nice little detective that feels like a comfortable blanket and yet does let you know that a book can never be responsible for the actions of its readers. Which seems to be the moral behind this third comic in the rejuvenation of an old comic series.
A great and perfect Christmas gift by the missus who knows her husband to well. really enjoyable like the new father Brown tv series by the BBC. They tend to bring out the nostalgic in people of a certain age. This is what comics like Rik Ringers/Ric Hochet do for me.
Irgendwie beruhigend ...
