Jack Journey #3 Frankie Potts #3 Third book in the series and more of the same, it is ok, pretty forgettable though, and again the character deserves a better story.
Here’s another book in the popular Frankie Potts detective series aimed at entertaining young readers.
This time, Frankie is puzzled by several goings-on that don’t make sense. In particular, who sent her mother a postcard with the greeting, “Dearest Tania,” and signed, “Gideon xxx.” Frankie wonders if her father knows about the mysterious Gideon who seems fond of her mother. And why is her mother so unwell lately?
Also, why did Frankie’s mother argue with her own mother, Marvellous M (Frankie’s flamboyant grandmother)? Marvellous M wants to add to her troupe of performing greyhounds but the family already has plenty of dogs. Of course, Frankie’s favourite is her own Sparkplug - the brightest dog of them all.
The plot is dotted with questions and clues that Frankie lists at the end of each chapter alongside possible solutions. Black-and-white sketches help develop the storyline and bring individuals to life. A group of supporting characters with their own quirky personalities add to the amusing narrative.
The Frankie Potts series will appeal to middle-primary school readers. They’ll enjoy following the antics of the unconventional Potts family and their eccentric friends.
