The Mismatched Mail-Order Brides #3

Avalee Exchanges her Fiancé

Rate this book

Will Avalee exchange her fake fiancé for a real one?

It’s 1892, almost twenty years after the first mail-order brides found love in Clear Creek, Kansas in the Brides with Grit Series.

The older members of the Clear Creek church women’s group, informally known as the Peashooter Society, decide to help the unattached women in town obtain husbands because there are more women in town than men.

Avalee Paulson, the third daughter in the Brides with Grit series book, Helen Heals a Hotelier, is Dr. Pansy Reagan’s physician’s assistant. She’s independent, determined not to have bad luck in love as he mother did.

The Peashooter Society decides Avalee needs a husband to complete her life, even if she’s happy with her friends and work. Avalee pretends she has a fiancé to ward off their attempts at matchmaking, and a man who’s been giving her unwanted attention.

Gordon Miller, along with his two brothers and their three friends, left New York City on an orphan train when he was seven years old. Now mustered out of the army, the group get the chance to live and work together in a small community, thanks to the plan of the Peashooter Society.

Gordon’s appointed job is to work with the Taylors, an older couple, as they try to decide to down scale or retire from their mercantile store. Not only does this frustrate Gordon, it makes him question if he wants to stay in town or venture out on his own. The thing that keeps Gordon in Clear Creek though, is Avalee Paulson, the doctor’s assistant who is fighting off the attention of an unwanted suiter.

Gordon offers to be Avalee’s fiancé to get the man to leave Avalee alone, but then feelings develop between the couple.

Sound complicated? Maybe. A little drama? Definitely!

I BET THE PEASHOOTER SOCIETY IS UP TO SOMETHING

The story is the second in a new series and is a spin-off from the Grooms with Honor and Brides with Grit Series. When six of the elderly ladies, better known as the Peashooter Society, get together, it is to come up with a plan. Now it involves getting the six prospected new grooms to meet the six potential new brides. The story is the match of Avalee Paulson and Gordon Miller.
Avalee Paulson works with Dr. Pansy and has no intention of marrying, or at least anytime soon. She even blurts out that she already has a fiancé, but the truth of it is, she has an unwanted admirer who she is trying to avoid.

Gordon Miller isn’t sure he wants to marry at this time and has only gone along with the plan Barton comes up with to stay together in Clear Creek, Kansas. Having been part of a group his entire adult life, does he want to stay here or move on in life? At first, the job he is placed in doesn’t suit him, and he feels nothing for the match the Peashooters placed him with.

“I’d prefer to stay single, and I need a partner—so to speak—to stay out of the matchmaking. If you’re inclined to not walk down the aisle to say the wedding vows yourself, maybe we could form a pact.”

“What would it be like to have someone to love and protect her all the time? No, even though Gordon’s hand gave her a sense of protection, she needed to guard her heart and body. Gordon being her fake fiancé, was the best plan to keep her safe and single.”

The story will have the Taylors being wishy-washy about what they want to do now that they are getting older. The first plan was to open a smaller housewares store and let someone else run the mercantile and yet, they can’t agree on what to sell. Gordon will prove that he can be a good clerk, but even he is flustered with the indecisiveness of the Taylors.

Avalee convinces Gordon that she will act like his fiancé and confesses that she has had unwanted advances by a man her parent's trust. She believes this will give both her and Gordon the out they need not be caught in the marriage trap. But what happens when others interfere and try to help Avalee and Gordon along in realizing that they were really meant to be together? Will fate finally fall in place with the Taylors so that Gordon and Avalee can make plans for a future?

“Remember you’re planning your next fifty years. Be patient.”

I enjoyed this clean historical and the cast of character and social interaction. I could have done with less of the repeated back story that was outlined in the prequel and first book, which encompasses the first quarter of this second story.

A sweet story about family and community. I liked that the H and h changed their opinions about never getting married once they found the right person, the interaction and support from community, and the 2 younger sisters that "pranked" them! I also enjoyed revisiting some of the characters from a previous stories. A fun read that I highly recommend. I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion.

Avalee exchanges her Fiancé

I love these kind of stories. So cute. Instead of mail order bride it is mail order husband. I really enjoyed Avalee and Gordon story. Such fun characters and scenes.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. To see how the peashooter club brings the next couple together. I definitely recommend reading this book.

I received an advanced copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed reading Avalee and Gordon’s story. Lots of mischief and cuteness in this story. It was a sweet read and you got to know the characters in the series more in depth. I can’t wait for this series to continue. Very well done. Another cute read in Clear Creek.

I truly enjoyed reading it!
It's an adorable & funny romance.
The Peashooter Society's
agenda may not work with, Avalee
& Gordon. They might just have their
own plan in mind.
Another great book in the series.
I loved everything about this Must
Read Story!!

The Peashooters are at it again. They brought six young men to Clear Creek to become Husbands and Business owners. The young ladies involved did not know about this until the young men arrived.. They were matched up by the ladies of the Peashooter Society and introduced to the young men... But this is where things get interesting.. These matched couples have other ideas and some of them have switched partners. Avalee is having trouble with someone pressing his attention on her so she invents a fake fiance.
Gordon Miller isn't sure he wants to be married. His life before joining the army was very lacking in love. He doesn't really know how to love or be loved. He offers to be Avalee's real fake fiance to help her with her dilemma. Is this all they will be? If her young sisters have anything
to say, things will end differently than we think.
These characters are such fun to read and they have sass! You are going to enjoy reading this story as it captures and pulls you right in.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.

An Interesting Scenario

I enjoyed this story, but became a little confused when several town characters were mentioned as if I should know who they are. Because I have read and enjoyed several of the author's books in the past, I did recognise some once some hints were given. Others I did not know. I realized part way through this story the opening scenes were not exclusive to this story, and we're probably part of a book I missed. I have always enjoyed reading this author's stories with their well-written characters and plots in the past. I would suggest for this series, especially if the reader has not read all the "parent" stories, you start with the first book in the series and real them in order.

Overall this was a good story, but at the beginning of the story it was quite a bit of rehash from the first story - and I ended up skipping through much of it.

Gordan is in a pickle with the store. The Taylor's just can't make up their minds what they are going to do, and Gordan is frustrated. He is attracted to Avalee, but she wants to stay with the doctor. They agree to say they are betrothed to keep Avalee safe from some unwanted attention (which isn't really resolved in the story - the inappropriate attention just disappears). But, as life moves on, Avalee and Gordan move closer to finding out that they love each other.

This is a clean read.

Avalee doesn't want to get married but a man has been bothering her and now the Peashooter Society women are trying to set her up with one of the new Bachelors in town. She figures the only was to take care of both situations is to get one of the new men, Gordon, to pretend to be her fiance.
How will this work, especially once her sisters find out what's going on?
This was a cute, sweet romance. I really liked their story. At first, I was worried because there was a bit of overlap from the last story. But, thankfully, the author created a unique situation for this book, and hopefully for each remaining book in the series.

Avalee Exchanges her fiance

This story was a twist on MaIl_Order Brides. The Miller brothers and their three life long
friends came to town in an answer to an add for six men looking for jobs and for wives. The older, women grouo had decided it was time to fibs husbands for the young women in town. All didn't go as,planned, and changes had to.be made as to which job and which potential brude a should made which groom., I gave it.4 stars

A ale Exchanges her Fiancé

Another great book in this series of love and laughter and matchmaking family. The matchmakers called the Peakeepers Society were arranging for six men to come to town as they had jobs and brides for them. Six men had been on a train that was robbed and they were left to walk back to the nearest town. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

When 6 young men answer an for jobs and brides in a small Kansas town, it pretty much turns the town on its ear. One young lady,Avalee, invented an imaginary fiancé, as at first she resisted the idea of getting married. As she gets to know one of the young men, Gordon, she is moved to exchange her imaginary fiancé for him as initially he doesn’t want to get married but when they get to know each other, they close out the story getting married. It’s a cute, clean story that is well written and holds your interest to the last line.

Fun reading of fake or is it a real fiance

Gordon is troubled about his future in Clear Creek as plans to purchase the mercantile are put on hold. Will he need to travel elsewhere to find employment? Likewise Gordon has pushed back his interest in Avalee as his future is unsettled. However mischief and mayhem abound as he steps in to be her fake fiance and winds up dealing with a boatload of sisters!

I loved the ladies of the Peashooter Society in the Brides with Grit and Grooms with Honor series and their daughters, granddaughters and nieces are doing a great job of carrying the traditions of young ladies with grit. Gordon and Avalee will be a good addition to Clear Creek families. I look forward to the rest of the couples finding their way.

When the Peashooter Society selects a bridegroom for Avalee, she balks at the situation saying she is already engaged to be married. Later, the girls and guys meet up and decide for themselves who is matched up. Avalee makes a deal with Gordon and he becomes her fake fiancé. Little did they know, that would change.

Gordon and Avalee

Gordon didn't think he wanted to marry and Avalee did not want to marry either. She wanted to be the doctors assistant forever. Her You get sisters had different plans for them and their antics to get them together are delightful. This is a very cute humorous love story that you will love.

Great story, and proofreading

I enjoyed the story of mismatched brides and grooms. The book was humorous, with likable characters, and an entertaining storyline. I look forward to reading more of the saga. It would be a much easier read without all the errors missed by the proofreader. 😐

Fun, Delightful Story!

This was such a fun book to read! Having met the Paulsen girls when they were young girls in their parent's story in the Brides of Grit series, it was delightfully wonderful to read of the antics as young adults! Absolutely delightful!

Another good book

Fun story, but if you're following the series, about the first half of this book is a repeat of the one before it. I'd prefer each book to be different, as a continuing story, not a repeat of the one before it.

Great

The Peashooter society have struck again. The only thing they match up the wrong couples. Alex was suppose to be matched with Tobin but Gordon helps Avalee out with an unwanted suitor. Will she decide she wants to get married after all.

The writing and characters were the same as the earlier book EXACTLY the same! If I buy a new book, I want something different, not a rehash - almost word for word - of what had already transpired. If this is the pattern, I will not be following on with the series.

They both were Leary of Marriage

I liked the way that the story had every body trying to get them together. It was funny how the one suiter that she didn't like got tricked on the box lunch.

Peashooters next project

This is a fun book that involves the meddlesome Peashooter Society. The ladies of the Society take on a project to match 6 brides and grooms. There are also some pesky little sisters who get involved.

Ok

Am not keen on books that repeat previous books and just add a bit more for the current one. Feel have been jipped. Apart from that, the story (of this couple) is funny.

I didn't finish this book. I thought the premise was interesting but it got very confusing trying to keep the couples and their siblings and parents straight, plus it was getting rather boring...
