America Ferrera may play Ugly Betty on TV, but she s anything but ugly in real life! Down to earth, determined, and proud of her accomplishments, Ferrera has become a role model for Latina women everywhere. This fun-to-read book offers juicy quotes, personal stories, and accessible features such as a timeline and glossary.
PERSONAL REACTION I really enjoyed this book because I learned a lot about America Ferrera and most of the information was about her life and things that I would not have known from her acting career. This book was very well organized and I think that it is a great biography for students to read and enjoy.
PURPOSE/USE IN CLASSROOM -this could be used as a read aloud book when teaching about biographies because it shows how biography touch on many aspects of ones life -this could be taught during a famous person unit -this could also be used for projects where students get to pick a person and explain why they are their hero/idol -I think this would be a better book for independent reading because there are a lot of cool pictures and information that some students may want to take their time on while reading -I think that students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade would enjoy this because there is a lot of information on each page and some of the vocabulary and other terms that are used might be more challenging -this is a great biography to start with or to use at the beginning of a biography unit because it is very organized and is not super long -there is a table of contents, index, and glossary -this book is awesome because there is a timeline of her life in the back of the book as well as a place that provides other resources if students want to know more about her
Overall, I think this is a great book and I would recommend it to many of my students. It is a great biography about a famous person and I think a lot of them would enjoy it. This biography is interesting and very informative and I think that students would learn a lot from it.
