I liked it. I liked the end. The sad part was when the boy's twin died. - Layne, 7 years old

This is a sweet story to share with your kids, along the same vein as Where the Red Fern Grows. It brings up serious issues for family discussion, like death, poaching, grieving, loneliness, and letting go when it's time to say goodbye. It's going on our family classics list.

I loved this sweet book. I began it in elementary school and never finished it till today. Poignant coming of age story, about accepting loss and moving forward. Well written, family appropriate....

Marsha, my daughter, loaded me this book. I wasn't sure I wanted to read it, I figured the doe or a dog would die! I hate those kind of stories, this was a really great book with a positive ending!
