Violet has a great new backpack with wheels and zippers, but when the many pockets distract her and cause her to misplace her homework, she tells a lie to cover it up, so the teacher gives her an even harder assignment.
This is a cute story about a little girl, Violet. She finds an awesome backpack "on wheels with zippers and snaps, Velcro and straps." She thinks it's perfect for homework and her mom gets it for her. She's so excited to take it to school (remember little kids are excited to get homework as it seems very grown-up). When she finally gets a homework paper to take home, she loses track of it. Anyone who's taught in the primary grades can appreciate her dismay when she realizes her paper is missing. I love the illustrations in this book. Look closely at the backpack, it looks like it has a face on it and the face matches Violet's changing moods throughout the book. This might be a fun one to have in the classroom library during the first days of school.
Telling the truth is important. This book is about a girl who was so excited about getting homework but when she finally got it and got home she realized she lost it. Instead of telling the truth she lied to her parents and her teacher. The teacher explained to her that honesty is more important than homework. This would be a great book for teaching students that even when you make a mistake you should be honest about what happened. It's the best policy!
Being a person that believes so heavily in honesty, this was a great read! This book caught my attention because I assumed it was going to be about a child who simply enjoyed homework based on the cover. With honesty being such a key thing it is important to remember that the trouble is far less severe with honesty.
Violet is very proud of her new backpack with lots of zippers and wheels, perfect for keeping homework. But something unexpected happens and Violet learns that the truth is more important than homework.

Definitely one I need to get for my classroom! I'm always telling my students the truth is most important. Maybe not the greatest story ever, but 4 stars for the great lesson, and how I could use it in my classroom.
Great book for teaching the value of always telling the truth. Easy for kids to relate to since the lie told revolves around losing homework. Nice illustrations.
