A loaf of fragrant cinnamon bread for breakfast . . . a sweet and creamy custard pie for dessert. In 1912 Ohio, the Amish Charm Bakery has something to delight locals and visiting Englischer alike. And within this warm, welcoming community, there’s always room for love to grow . . .
Hannah Lapp’s life, like a long-cherished recipe, is satisfying just the way it is. She enjoys whipping up desserts at the bakery, tutoring local children, and socializing with dear friends. One of those friends, Timothy Barkman, has made his interest in Hannah clear, but she’s been in no hurry to change her circumstances.
No sooner does she feel ready to grow closer to hard-working, handsome Timothy than Hannah finds she may have waited too long. Charlene Shetler intends to become Timothy’s fraa . It’s little wonder he’s attracted to such a pretty, forthright young woman, but is the newcomer all that she seems? Only when Hannah is willing to confront some difficult truths can she move bravely toward a life of abiding faith and love . . .
I said to my loving husband, Ed, “I’ve always wanted to write a book. A story that readers would get lost in for a while.” He said, “Do it!” My daughter, Misty, brother, Mitch, and Mom, Sue said, “Take Ed’s advice, do it!” So I did. The road wasn’t easy, but the education, Amish research, and ride along the way to getting published taught me to take my favorite verse to heart.
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13 KJV
Why Amish Inspirational Romance? I love their dedication to serve God. I visited Amish Country in Ohio many times. They work hard and have such a close knit friendship with each other. It’s heartwarming and uplifting. At the same time, they face hardships and difficult problems just like we do.
God answered my prayers and gave me the best mentor, author, and friend, Patricia Campbell, to hone my skills. I’m blessed to have Dawn Dowdle as my agent, and John S. from Kensington as my editor.
I’m thank for you, the reader, for being interested in my book!

Hannah's Courage by Molly Jebber is the third book in the Amish Charm Bakery series, and can easily be read as a standalone. Set in the charming little town of Charm, Ohio, it follows Hannah, who works at Charm Bakery with her friends, Ellie, Magdalena, Maryann, and Rachel. Hannah is a likable character. She's kind, caring, and always ready to help anyone in need. She doesn't like change and is content with her life just the way it is, working at the bakery and spending time with her friends and family. She loves and cares deeply for Timothy and would love to be his wife, just not yet. When Hannah finally feels ready to grow closer to Timothy, she is heartbroken to discover that Timothy has moved on and is now courting Charlene, a pretty girl who has just moved to town. Hannah knows that it's her fault that Timothy got tired of waiting around for her, so with the support of her friends and family and her faith in God, she decides to move on with her life. But when Hannah learns that Charlene is not who she appears to be, will she tell Timothy the truth? And will she ever find the courage to tell him that she's in love with him?
Hannah's Courage is a heartwarming historical Amish romance about love, faith, and courage. Readers will fall in love with the wonderful cast of characters and the quaint little town of Charm, Ohio. The author's writing style makes you feel like you're right there in Charm, working at the bakery with the girls, and you could almost smell all the delicious pastries being whipped up in the kitchen. It was easy to root for Hannah and Timothy, they were both relatable characters, dealing with real issues. I could definitely relate to Hannah's fear of change and really felt for her when she realized that she waited too long to share her feelings with Timothy. And I really felt for Timothy when he resigned himself to the fact that Hannah might never love him, and that his hope of starting a life with her might never come true. I really admired Hannah's faith in God and enjoyed her friendship with the girls. This is a wonderful story with a lovely message woven into it. I will definitely be reading future books in this series.
I received an ARC from Kensington Books through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
HANNAH’S COURAGE is the third book in the Amish Charm Bakery series by Molly Jebber. It is the story of Hannah Lapp and how she is dealing with knowing she waited too long to let her feelings be known to Timothy. He has always loved her but he can’t wait forever for her. At that moment he is pursued hard by Charlene. She refuses to listen to the gossip about Timothy and Charlene, but knows it’s going to be hard running into them in town and asks God for some guidance.
Molly Jebber sure knows how to make the reader feel as if they are right there at the kitchen table with the family dealing with all their troubles and HANNAH’S COURAGE is exactly that! She made me sad, then the next moment I was smiling and giggling out loud! You can never go wrong with a Molly Jebber book if you are a fan of the Amish genre. All of her characters feel genuine and relatable and put your emotions on one heck of a roller coaster ride. As you are reading, you will find yourself cheering for all of them, praying they can work out their problems and be happy once again. You will also wonder how much heartache a family can stand before it completely breaks down and splits.
HANNAH’S COURAGE is a heart tugging story filled with grief, loneliness, heartbreak, and love that will hold you hostage until the very last page. Once I started this heartwarming story, it was very hard to put down! I really prayed that Hannah would be able to convince Timothy of Charlene’s deceit before it is too late. Molly Jebber isn’t afraid to write about subjects out of the norm as far as the Amish genre goes. Oh, as a warning to the reader, keep the tissues handy and do not read the ending in a public place unless you don’t mind crying in front of strangers! I’m so excited to continue catching up on all of Molly Jebber’s previous books.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from CelebrateLit though Netgalley. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.
Molly Jebber has written another delightful heartwarming story that readers will enjoy. The title for this book was a perfect match for the story found within. I loved reading Hannah’s Courage and the growth she found with her courage. She took a leap of faith after waiting to long in giving Timothy an answer about her love for him when she accepted a teaching job in Mt. Hope. Hannah knew she would miss all her wonderful friends at the Amish Charm Bakery where she enjoyed baking and taking care of the books. I love the characters in the Amish Charm Bakery series, except for the conniving Charlene that appeared in this story; however, time does expose truth. The beauty of Jebber’s writing shone through with God’s love, forgiveness, grace, mercy and romance. There was plenty of action, unexpected events with some answers that only God could have orchestrated for the loved characters.
Jebber is one of my favorite authors with her historical Amish fiction and including her original series theme of a pocket quilt with a letter for a loved one in each book. I look forward to reading more astonishing books by this author. I would like to see a story about Rachael, Maryann and Magdalena that work at the Amish Charm Bakery, too.
I received a complimentary e-book from NetGalley and the Kensington Publishers for the tour with Celebrate Lit.
Wow really loved this story. Wow about one of the character's she was really something eles. I loved all the characters in the book and character's and the cover and the title matche's the story for sure. couldn't put the book done. hope for more.i got the book from molly.
Hannah’s Courage by Molly Jebber takes us back to May of 1913 in Charm, Ohio. Hannah Lapp and Timothy Barkman have grown up together and have become close friends. The relationship gradually changed, and they began courting. Whenever Timothy would bring up their future, Hannah would change the subject. Hannah is not one for change. Seeing her best friend, Ellie Wenger happy with marriage has Hannah realizing she is ready to tell Timothy how she feels about him. When Timothy enters Liza’s Amish Charm Bakery where Hannah works, she is delighted to see him until she notices the pretty woman on his arm. Charlene Shetler is new to town and was quick to latch onto Timothy. It seems that Hannah has waited too long to tell Timothy how she feels. Charlene has no qualms about letting Timothy know she likes him and desires a future with him. Timothy is uncomfortable with Charlene’s forthright manner, but he knows he needs to move on since Hannah does not reciprocate his feelings. Matters can certainly go awry when we fail to communicate. Hannah’s Courage is the third book in The Amish Charm Bakery series. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading this charming series in order. Hannah’s Courage is nicely written, and the story moves along steadily. The author made me feel like I was visiting Charm and could smell the delectable items that are whipped up at the bakery. I also liked that we get to see things from Hannah and Timothy’s perspective with the alternating chapters. The characters are realistic. We get to see them go through their daily lives where they have struggles as well as joyful moments. The Amish community in Charm is close, and they help those in need. They have a kindly and caring bishop. Hannah works at Liza’s Amish Charm Bakery with her friends Ellie and Magdalena. I like that we get to catch up with Liza and Ellie to see how they are doing. Maryann and Rachel join the bakery ladies and they are a welcome addition. The friendship between these ladies is heartwarming. They are good friends who support each other. Hannah is a kind woman with a strong faith who dislikes change (I can certainly relate). I enjoyed seeing Hannah grow as a person and in her faith. Charlene is a character that you love to dislike (she reminded me of Nellie Olson). Aaron, Timothy’s brother, is a special individual. Hannah is a patient teacher who helps Aaron to learn. She can see the potential in him, and she encourages Aaron. There is a special moment when Timothy makes a realization about Aaron that I find particularly touching. I like how the author captured the time period by having the sheriff and the local doctor share the latest news each day. I especially enjoyed the sheriff’s story (I do not want to say too much and spoil it for you). Hannah’s Courage is a heartfelt Amish story about love, faith, forgiveness, second chances and courage.
A tender Amish romance between Hannah Lapp and Timothy Barkman takes readers to Charm Ohio in the year of 1913. . The two had grown up together and been the best of friends. As Timothy reached adulthood he wanted to begin courting Hannah but she holds back because she feared change. She enjoyed working in the Charm Bakery with her friends. She loved Timothy but she wasn't ready to commit to dating and possible marriage in the future. Timothy wasn't sure where he stood with Hannah. She seemed to think of him as a friend only. Discouraged he decided to go on with his life. A new Amish girl in the community showed interest in him. She was very forward and made no secret of how she felt about Timothy. About that time Hannah had decided she would like to be courted by Timothy. Learning he was seeing Charlene Shetler, Hannah realized her mistake in not agreeing to let Timothy court her. To make matters worse Charlene was very rude to Hannah and saw her as a threat to her and Timothy's relationship . Hannah's world has fallen apart and she knows somehow she must get beyond this and move forward in her life. Things are not as they seem and Charlene is not the person Timothy believes her to be. I love these historical romances. Automobiles were just becoming popular. I have been to Charm Ohio and loved reading about the town in its earlier years. Molly Jebber has the gift of bringing her stories to life and her readers are taken back in time as they turn the pages. This reader was drawn in from the beginning. All readers who enjoy Historical Romance , Amish Fiction and Christian Fiction will enjoy this book. The author did not disappoint this reader and I highly recommend it to anyone. I received a copy of Hannah's Courage from the Author. Thank you! I was not asked to write a review. All opinions expressed here in this review are my own!
HANNAH’S COURAGE by Molly Jebber is the third book in the Amish Charm Bakery series. It’s another amazing segment in the continuing story of Hannah Lapp and the great friends she works side by side with at the Amish Charm Bakery in Ohio in the year of 1812. Although part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone book since it’s a great story within itself.
The story opens with Hannah Lapp learning that her decisions, or lack thereof, are things she will have to learn to live with or work around. About the time she is finally ready to let Timothy Barkman know she is ready to get serious, after dragging her feet forever to commit, and consider a relationship with him, he’s given up on her ever taking him serious and started seeing the new girl in town, Charlene Shetler, who seems smitten with him and doesn’t care who knows it.
Feeling she’s lost her chance, she keeps her declaration of love to herself and wishes them well. However, knowing she loves Timothy and always will, she can’t bare living in the same town with him and seeing them happily together everywhere she goes. Not one that welcomes change, she prays for a solution to her problem. She takes strength in God’s promise that life may not be easy, but that he will not forsake us. When a sudden opening for a school teacher in Mt. Hope is posted and it’s within easy traveling distance to still be able to visit her family, Hannah considers the opportunity to try a job she always wanted to do. After all, she’s been extremely successful in our tutoring of Timothy’s brother, Aaron, who has bloomed under her instructions. When Agnes, the person she would have to contact for the position, shows up unexpectedly in town and then the bishop gives his approval and he recommends her for the post, she feels it’s an answer to her prayers.
Although the Kauffman family made her stay pleasant and welcomed her into their family, Hannah finds that teaching to a group of children of different ages and learning abilities isn’t near as gratifying as teaching one on one. Plus she realizes that she missed her family and friends at the bakery as well as the baking itself. However, how can she disappoint the people who had been so nice to her? At the same time, Timothy finds Charlene’s brazen, non-Amish attitude more than he can put up with. The initial thrill of having a woman find him attractive and seeking him out soon loses its first appeal. He also realizes that he’s not over Hannah yet – and may never be. Just as he’s about to break it off, Charlene’s grandmother dies. How can he be the one to break her heart even more?
Can Hannah and Timothy find ways to make peace in their lives? Will that path have them finding their way back to each other? Can Charlene hold on to Timothy with an accusation that shocks everyone? Will bad weather causing a terrible accident put a wedge between Hannah and Timothy or draw them closer together? Will the community be attending one wedding or two? Will Aaron have his declaration that Hannah would become his real sister become a fact?
Molly Jebber has done it again! She has written a story that holds your interest and turning pages to see how she will weave inspiration and love into the pages. With hope, prayer and belief in God, we see a couple whose childhood friendship has turned to adult love who experience the good and bad in life taking the ups and downs together. They learn to communicate in order to build a relationship built on respect, dedication, honesty, and most definitely on faith. Lessons we could all learn from. I most wholeheartedly recommend HANNAH’S CHOICE to anyone that loves a great well-written Christian story. You will be wanting to check out other book by this author. I know I can’t wait for the next book in this series as well as other books by Molly Jebber.
Let me start off that just because I have this book 3 stars does not mean it is terrible. It is a good read but I felt like it should be marketed as a young adult series. I personally feel it reads very simply and it distracts from the story.
I have read all three books in the series and will continue to read more if there are to be more. The storyline is interesting and I am invested in the characters.
As with the other two, I feel things move very quickly and everything is resolved very easily. This series is a great book to read and relax. It is a clean romance safe for the teenager in your life.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Kensington, through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
I loved this book!! Great story!! Hope she writes more books to this series!! Love this author's books!! Received this book from Kensington books from netgally!!
Hannah's Courage Hannah took things for granted...well, she took Timothy for granted. She loved him but she wasn't ready to settle down. But she didn't plan that there would be competition.
It was frustrating in seeing this couple dance around and not communicate what they really needed to say to each other. Hannah tried to find the perfect moment to tell Timothy her true feelings. She just didn't have the courage to be vulnerable and open to rejection. She almost lost the chance of true happiness.
We all need to take a risk or two in life. Hannah finally took à risk. With this risk, she discovered who she was.
Prayers to our Heavenly Father will guide and keep us on the right path. Hannah and Timothy knew that with prayer GOD will provide the answers.
Philippians 4:6,7: Pray about everything “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.”
I received this for free from Celebrate Lit to review.
I loved it!

Molly Jebber is wonderful as always! I love her books and I try never to miss one! Her stories are timeless, and offers Hope, Love and lots of Inspirational messages throughout her books. It's what I love about this author. Her stories flow from her pen that they will draw you into the book before you know it. I love Charm, Ohio. I feel like I've lived there all of my life and I have "friends" there that I like to visit a lot from the books of course. So I was delighted to get a hold of this one. She is an excellent storyteller and she practically had me drooling because of all the baked goods. Hannah is a remarkable character except for one thing. And believe me, I'm sure that everyone is guilty of this. She has trouble telling Timothy how she feels about him. I almost cried along with her. One of the character's is hard to get to know but then there are people in real life like that. They're too afraid to let people in. Not me, I wear my heart on my sleeve so to speak and that's my mistake. I am a people person like Hannah is. I love working around people and even getting to know some of them. It's what my job required me to do. You know, "With God, all things are possible when you ask HIm for help. He's always there waiting on us to receive Him. However; there are those who are afraid of change. Fear is the ultimate evil of the world. When we don't understand something it can cause us to do something we don't normally do and that includes even trusting in God. I'm like that are you? I can relate in not liking change but sometimes it's good for us whether we like it or not. Sometimes God closes the door and opens another we just have to be willing to walk through it. Change is hard but with God in the picture anything is possible and it definitely takes willingness and courage to walk through that door. Who knows? It may the best thing that ever happened to you. This is a story of grief, loneliness, and at times courage, love and heartbreak all rolled into one to make an excellent story. This is why I love Amish stories. Because it shows how the Amish people have the courage to do what they do. I still think that we can learn from them and I think in some things we'd all be better off living in the old ways. This book will not let you go until you finish it and Molly's character's will leave you thinking about them long after the story is finished and leaving your heart full and satisfied. I also will reread this book in the future just to revisit my friends in Charm. And I do want to point out to you the year 1912. Can anyone tell me what happened then lol? I received this complimentary book from Netgally/author with NO compensations received and I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
"Hannah's Courage" is the third book in the Amish Charm Bakery series and can be thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone. I must admit that I believe that I enjoyed it more because I had read the first two and to me, this story was a visit to old friends in a familiar community. Charm is a lovely little place that I have visited many times and there actually is a bakery that I can't miss going to ! Thus, the setting of this book stimulated all of my senses... I could smell those delicious goodies baking and taste the wonderful pastries!
The characters are so realistically and well described that you easily identify with each one. Hannah was a dear person who feared change, much like myself. Although she had desires and dreams, she kept them to herself rather than pushing forward. She had deep feelings for a particular young man, she kept them to herself...... perhaps for too long. Did she miss her opportunity?? Charlene was a character who I struggled to like! She was pushy, at times to the point of rudeness. Not the type of person who I would want for a friend. She also had feelings for the young man, Timothy! Would Hannah regret her decision to leave the bakery, a job she loved, to teach, a job she did not really love, just to avoid watching romance pass her by?
The plot moved at a slow steady pace with some unexpected twists and turns to keep the reader engrossed from beginning to end of the novel. There were no jolting moments, however, this sweet romance had qualities that definitely appealed to me. Poor Hannah had so many challenges to face, some within, some caused by others.
Overall, this is a heartwarming tale that emphasizes love, faith and the courage to express ourselves in a kind, honest fashion. Hannah's faith kept her strong in times of challenge , achieving more than she ever expected.
All lovers of the Amish Fiction Genre will enjoy this book. Molly Jebber will not disappoint!
This book was received from CelebrateLit. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.
Hannah's Courage by Molly Jebber is an endearing addition to the Amish Charm Bakery series. As a reader with a love for Amish tales and having read the first two books in the series, this book did not disappoint. Hannah and Timothy have been good friends for years but a commitment to marriage was not forthcoming. Would their love for each other endure the changes that are ahead--a conniving interloper and a career move? Would their faith in God be strong enough to overcome the challenges? The characters are likable and realistic, with their strong points and their flaws and foibles. I loved the friendship of the young women at the bakery as they worked together and cared for each other. I also liked the relationship Hannah and Timothy each had with their respective parents. The plot flows quickly with twists and turns that keep the reader's interest. The author has infused the pages with heart-warming emotion and romance. Threaded throughout the book is also a strong faith in God and a belief that He is a God who will give guidance and courage to make the right decisions in life. I received a complimentary copy of this book via CelebrateLit. A favorable review was not required, and opinions are my own. This review is part of a CelebrateLit blog tour.
Hannah's Courage is about a girl, Hannah, who decides after losing her beau to another girl, to move to another Amish settlement to teach school. She has never lived anywhere but home, so it is a big step for her. She learns that she didn't like it at all, and decides to move home. Her former sweetheart has had a change of mind about the girl he has been seeing, and he tells Hannah he loves her. She of course, already loves him and tells him so. This is a slow moving story, without a lot of excitement, but it is a good story. The kind of book you can sit back and just enjoy. I thought it was well written and enjoyable.
Hannah's Courage is the third amazing story written by Molly Jebber in her Amish Charm Bakery series. This story is set in the year 1913 but as you read this story you forget what year it is. This is such a sweet love story that is full of misunderstandings. The characters are very likeable except for one who gets labeled Miss Nasty. She deserves that title. This character made me want to slap her so the author did a great job creating her.
The author takes us back in time to Charm, Ohio and to a group of very sweet and loyal friends who run an Amish bakery. These ladies not only support each other as co-workers but very good friends. This story centers around Hannah and Timothy. Timothy has been confessing his love for Hannah but is very frustrated because she doesn't return the feelings. Hannah has finally decided to tell Timothy she is ready to move forward with their relationship but it appears she is to late. With the appearance of a newcomer to their community everyone assumes Timothy has moved on. This newcomer definitely is not the person she appears to be and when Hannah discovers her secret she is torn as to whether she should reveal what she knows. As this story plays out and secrets get revealed it gets very intense. Hannah discovers her courage but not in the way you might think. This story is filled with friends, family, deceit, and forgiveness. The author brings in new characters to this story so I am hopeful for another book. I thoroughly enjoyed this story as well as the two previous books.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
Congratulations to Molly Jebber for writing another outstanding historical story for her readers enjoyment and continuing her series.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! THE TWO MAIN CHARACTERS HANNAH AND TIMOTHY HAD STRUGGLES AND TRIALS! and they relied on God through it all and learned a lot! I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ALL! I didn't want it to end!
Another great story about friendship and love! Such a great storyline that we’ve all probably been through in some way. Love all the characters and how each one grows and learns life lessons throughout. Thanks for another great read!
I have read many books from this author and have enjoyed each one. This story is special because the author has achieved something that at times is hard to accomplish. She has written a story that flows easily, develops her characters in a way that you connect with them and shares a message of God's love in a way that fills you with peace. I am disappointed that the story is over because I wanted to continue visiting with Hannah and Timothy. I am hoping that the author will continue the series with one of the characters from the bakery.
Hannah and Timothy have been dear friends forever and it has come to a point where they each have deeper feeling for each other. I loved how the author shared how much of a gentleman Timothy is. He is committed to his faith and the Amish ways. I learned some new things about the Amish which delighted me. I knew that the Bishop has to approve things but I didn't know you had to ask permission to attend an English wedding.
Hannah is sweet and hard working. She loves to bake and loves her time working with her friends at the bakery. I want to visit an Amish bakery sometime and sample everything. It was interesting to read how much work they do to supply bakery items for sale. I would not want to get up early in the morning to start baking.
The story is a romance but so much more. Have you ever regretted not telling someone how you feel? Hannah will learn a hard lesson when she waits to long to share her feelings for Timothy. I loved the addition of Charlene and it did give Hannah a little shock that Timothy could have feelings for someone else. Charlene is not the most pleasant person to be around and is very pushy. I know she was mean but my heart went out to her. She wanted someone to love her and was willing to lie and say hurtful things to get her way.
It will take a journey for Hannah to realize what really makes her happy. Her patience with Timothy's brother is such a beautiful testimony to how selfless Hannah is. Aaron really has come a long way in school since Hannah has devoted her time to teach him one on one. There is so many wonderful parts of the story that I want to share, but I can't spoil any surprises. If you are looking for a story about family and a lesson on courage this is the perfect book to read. The author includes a bit of history about motorcars and other inventions that make the story realistic. Come join Hannah, Timothy and the town as we find love, laughter, friendship and courage to trust God in all things.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
“With God, she believed all things were possible. She had motivation, and maybe it was time she exercised courage.”
Although in the past I have only rarely read Amish stories, in the past year or so they have become a regular addition to my reviewing schedule. The quaintness and slower pace are refreshing in comparison to modern daily life, as are the steadfast devotion to God and the fervent sense of community. At the same time, the ways in which Amish and Englisch lives are alike enhances the reading experience. With this book, in particular, the parallels stand out, and the characters seem very relatable, without the disconnect that sometimes occurs with this genre.
A mixture of sweetness and heartache, “Hannah’s Courage” is book 3 in Molly Jebber’s Amish Charm Bakery series. While it is not necessary to read the first two books in order to understand the story, take into consideration that there are spoilers for the major plotlines. Except for a few scenes that featured motor cars, the fact that this story is set in 1912 did not stay in the forefront of my mind; mostly because of the Amish lifestyle, there is a timelessness that seeps through the pages. The language also has a natural flow to it, and a brief dictionary is included for the Pennsylvania Dutch words that the characters speak. The setting of Charm, Ohio is one I’m familiar with because I have been to and shopped in the Berlin area numerous times over the years.
Endearing characters populate this novel, each with struggles and flaws like the rest of us. Admittedly, though, I did become frustrated with some of them, and the narrative seems as though it could be edited down to avoid drawn-out episodes and drama. The title character was my favorite because I identified with her dislike of change and I also applaud her for the selflessness she demonstrates continuously. Attempting to avoid making the same mistake twice, “She’d rise above her inhibition and nurture the courage she’d found within her” because “He didn’t promise life would be easy. He promised to never forsake her, and she claimed that promise.”
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Celebrate Lit and was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
This was such a good book. Very quick read for me. I sat down with the baby to nurse her and she ended up napping which led me to being able to read the whole book! She did wake up a few times and it was the longest nap she's probably ever taken but I was very grateful for it! I always love some good uninterrupted reading time.
Hannah is a cautious girl who doesn't like change. She likes her life the way it is and though she's been offered opportunities to change before she's too happy with the way things are to move on.
But now the man she's realized she's in love with, the man she's had on a string for quite some time may have decided he's done waiting. When a new girl moves to town and decides that Timothy is now her man things might get a bit messy.
Instead of fighting though Hannah decides to resign herself to watch from the sidelines. After all, it's her own fault. She waited too long. Even though she was set to tell Timothy how she felt when she hears his family say that he now has a special friend and it's not her she's determined to move on with her life.
Working at the bakery has been her joy and she would hate to give it up, but when opportunity beckons will she finally answer the call? Will she have the courage to do what's right? Can she win Timothy back?
Great read and I highly recommend it. It's a fun Amish fiction romance book with a minor plot that keeps it from being too sickly sweet. DO know though that you're probably going to want some baked goods after reading!

Hannah and Timothy had loved each other for a long time. But Hannah was content working in the bakery with her friends, and she hated change. So she keeps putting Timothy off when he tries to pursue her. It’s when a new family moves to Charm, with a young lady around Hannah’s age, nonetheless, that Hannah realizes she may be too late to tell Timothy her true feelings for him. Where will this leave Hannah?
I always look forward to reading a Molly Jebber book, because I know it is a story I will love and enjoy. Hannah’s Courage was a refreshing new read for me. I love the Amish Charm Bakery and the ladies who work there day to day baking the most delicious sounding foods. But most of all, I enjoy the relationship and fellowship of these sweet ladies. I learn a lot from the advice they give to each other. This is a workplace I would love to work. They all get along so well, and one doesn’t try to get ahead of another. And I enjoy the talk about their men, or the lack thereof. Though I was wishing Hannah wouldn’t have been so strong willed, and let one of her friends talk to Timothy, since she wouldn’t tell him how she feels!
And then there is Timothy’s brother, Aaron. Hannah and Aaron have such a sweet relationship. And Aaron is doing so well in school as Hannah tutors him. But Hannah is about to make a decision that will shake everyone up. And there is so much more to this story I would love to comment on, like Charlene Shetler, but you really need to read this beautiful book to enjoy the story more. And I don’t like giving away too many clues! I encourage you to pick up a copy of Hannah’s Courage today!!

Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the chance to read and review Hannah’s Courage by Molly Jebber in advance of publication. My opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.
Hannah’s Courage is a lovely Amish fiction novel with a heart felt love story. I enjoyed Ms. Jebber’s writing style a great deal. The plot is somewhat of a love triangle, and while that isn’t my favorite troupe, this one is done extremely well. The pacing is steady and smooth, perfect for this Amish tale.
Hannah Lapp’s character is a delight. She has a carefree side and not quite ready to settle down to being a wife and mother yet. Even though she cares for Timothy and wants to be his frau eventually, just not yet. When that proves to be an error in her judgement, I could feel her confusion when her boyfriend seems to be turning to another.
Timothy is a perfect Amish hero. He’s humble and modest, and unsure of what he should do when a new Amish young woman pursues him. Should he move forward and see if he can have a good marriage or cling to what seems hopeless in regard to Hannah? My heart hurt when he believes any chance of having a life with Hannah seems hopeless.
The romance between Hannah and Timothy appears in the beginning to be beyond their reach. I felt Hannah’s pain when she believes she’s lost her chance to become his frau. I truly wanted them to find a way back to each other.
I always enjoy historical fiction, and Hannah’s Courage is set in 1912. Ms. Jebber easily paints the times and mannerisms of that time. While she describes the setting, she does it in a way that flows with the story.
If you enjoy historical fiction with a strong romantic element, then you will love Hannah’s Courage. In fact, I liked it so much I’ve downloaded the first two books in this series. Happy reading!
Hannah’s Courage by Molly Jebber is a cute, Amish romance with a love triangle that confounds me. Hannah Lapp works in a bakery with Ellie and Magdalena, and eventually a few others. The relationships we see there are warm and energizing. If you wouldn’t want to work in Liza’s Bakery, you would at least want to make it a daily stop, like Sheriff Williams and Dr. Harrison. These older mid-life men are fun secondary characters, adding breadth to the story. No one but Timothy Barkman is going to like Charlene. At first, helping a newcomer to the area, he finds she attaches stronger than a hungry flea. Unfortunately, she’s rude and rotten to the core. (Ellie likes to call Charlene “Miss Nasty.”) Everyone but Timothy can see Charlene’s bad personality, and I’m left thinking, ”Can even a person in love be this blind?!” Charlene fails to consider Timothy’s wishes and requests about her forward behavior. As a former teacher, the book both delighted and dismayed me. These reactions had to do with Hannah and the course of actions she took. I can’t say more without spoilers. What unimpressed me? The story moseyed a little slower than I would have liked. I wished the novel would have had a little more substance. Also, I felt like there was one possible loose end that loomed over most of the book and then quietly disappeared. Why would I want to read more? The relationships in the bakery mentioned earlier. Maryann is a person that enters the book early on. By the end, I am intrigued enough that I will look for the next book by Molly Jebber to read her story. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher. This does not influence my opinions. I am voluntarily leaving my thoughts, for which I am solely responsible.
Kensington Books publishes mass market paperbacks--those books you can carry with you in a pocket or purse for those times when you have a few minutes to read. These are generally quick reads that don't take a lot of time to finish.
Molly Jebber has written a book published by Kensington that takes place in the early 1900s, a book of Amish fiction. Hannah likes her life just the way it is, until a newcomer to the community attaches herself to Hannah's best friend, Timothy. Hannah is heartbroken that she has waited so long to tell Timothy she's in love with him, and she can't stay in Charm now that Charlene Shetler has attached herself to Timothy.
Hannah always thought she wanted to teach, and when an opening shows up in Mt Hope, she applies for and gets the job. She moves to Mt Hope to finish out the school year and to tutor some of the students throughout the summer. She finds herself homesick and wanting to move back, and she finds that teaching a classroom is not what she really wants to do.
This is a quiet novel, without too much drama, and not a lot of compelling movement in the plot. The characters have depth, but they are all too sweet, with the exception of Charlene. Life among the Amish in the earliest years of the 20th century isn't much different from life now. I wish I could give this book a higher rating, but three stars is all I can do for it. This is the third book in the Charm Bakery series, but there is a set up for a fourth and maybe fifth novel in this series.
My thanks go to Kensington Books and NetGalley.com for providing the galley I read for this review.
I am fascinated by the Amish culture and lifestyle. They have a love for family and trust in God that is strong. Hard work is part of their lives as is good cooking.
Hannah’s Courage is a Christian historical Amish romance by author Molly Jebber. It takes readers into the Amish world in the early 1900’s. Set in Charm, Ohio this is part of The Amish Charm Bakery Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it would be better to read the earlier novels first.
This is the tale of Hannah. She works at the bakery and tutors Aaron. Timothy is Aaron’s older brother and has been in love with Hannah for along time. Hannah has finally decided to declare her feelings to Timothy when a new girl comes to Charm and sweeps him off of his feet.
The author has incorporated many timeless life and inspirational lessons into this delightful story. She has a lovely writing style that is easy to read. A twist is thrown in to make the story interesting. Her characters are realistic and well rounded. The dialog flows without a hitch. The setting was well researched and defined so that I could imagine everything. I wanted to visit the bakery and chat with the three girls.
In the back after the story, readers are rewarded with recipes. I was thrilled to be able to make some of the treats I had been reading about that sounded so scrumptious. There is even a list of Amish words and their meanings, too.
I definitely recommend this book. It would make a great reading group choice. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit but these are my own true words. I rated it a 4 out of 5 stars.
I enjoy reading sweet, wholesome stories, and Molly Jebber’s stories always have a way of touching my heart. What I’ve loved most about this series is the Amish community of Charm, Ohio, in the year 1912. These books make me wish I could visit the bakery there and talk with Hannah, Ellie, and Magdalena.
We read this story from the viewpoints of both Hannah and Timothy. Hannah’s a lovely young Amish lady who enjoys visiting with and helping her friends and family. She’s not been in a hurry to get married, even though Timothy has been courting Hannah for some time. However, Hannah has misjudged Timothy’s feelings about the delay. Timothy thinks Hannah likes him only as a friend, and he decides it may be time to move forward with someone else who is serious about marriage. He meets Charlene, a newcomer to their community, and she immediately makes her interest in Timothy known to all. Hannah realizes the true state of her heart, but is it too late for her to make this known to Timothy?
I was quite interested in the characters in this book. Both Hannah and Timothy are wonderful people, and it was easy to see that they belonged together. Charlene was a total contrast to Hannah, as she was manipulative and secretive. Although Charlene was sometimes over-the-top with her behavior, her character fit well with the storyline.
Amish fiction fans will enjoy this book. I’m hoping there’s still more to comeopinions are my from that little Amish community of Charm.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Hannah’s Courage by Molly Jebber is a delightfully warm Amish historical novel that will leave you smiling. It is the third book in the Amish Charm Bakery series but can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed reconnecting with familiar faces. There is a wonderful community feel to the book as the Amish bond over food and company. Homes, hearts and businesses are opened to those in need. Strangers receive warm welcomes. Friendship is important. We all need friends with whom we can talk and trust them to tell us the truth in love. The characters are realistically drawn and likable. Their interactions are delightful. There are misunderstandings that create tensions in the reader as we long for them to be resolved. Young adults in the Amish community have strict rules to abide by. This can cause frustrations when the rules are deliberately flaunted. Teaching is an important vocation. There is a wonderful relationship between a young boy who has been injured mentally and a young adult who invests time and love to teach him. It reminds the reader of the proverb telling us to train a child in the way and he will not depart from it. The novel is set in 1913 it is a world on the brink of change. The reader hears about the new invention of the motor car which is resisted by some and embraced by others. I found Hannah’s Courage a positively delightful read. It warmed my heart and made me smile. I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
What I think you should know: Hannah’s Courage is the third book in the Amish Charm Bakery series by Molly Jebber. While this book can be a standalone I recommend reading the first two books of the series so that you get the wonderful stories that preceded this one. It is set in 1913 in a community where Amish families and English families still lived and worked in close proximity with each other. This book focuses on Hannah Lapp who works at the Charm Bakery and what happens when the man she is in love with moves on with his life without her.
What I think about this book: Hannah’s Courage gave me the excitement of facing new challenges and that pit you got in your stomach the first time you had to see your former sweetheart or biggest crush with someone else. Hannah was such an easy character to relate to, she is happy with her life and doesn’t like change, which is like so many people. I understand why she wanted to see his maturity before she moved forward. Jebber did a wonderful job of making characters who you become invested in and enjoy reading about them. I was surprised at some of the twists in the book, which added to my enjoyment. I loved not only Hannah and Timothy, but all of the other characters in the book. I would happily read many more books about the residents ( Amish and English alike) of Charm.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
My review today is on the Amish Romance, Hannah's Courage. This is the third book in The Amish Charm Bakery Series. This story is well written and heart warming. I know you are going to love it. I'm always thrilled when I get one of Molly's books. Her Amish books touch your heart.
Hannah Lapp is enjoying her life. She loves her job at the bakery, she loves her family, and she loves her best friend, Timothy. She hasn't been able to tell him she loves him but plans on telling him in just a few days. She's so excited. When she goes to dinner at his home his brother tells her that Timothy has a new special friend. She is brokenhearted but tells him she wishes him the best. She then takes a position as a teacher in one of the neighboring communities.
Timothy Barkman has been trying to get Hannah to allow him to court her for years but she refused to consider it. A new girl moves to town and she latches on to him immediately. He's attracted to her but he still loves Hannah. Charlene is always touching him which is against Amish tradition. He tries to get her to stop but she refuses. She doesn't follow the Amish rules, she is rude to all others, and he's not sure what to do. She keeps pushing for him to propose.
A traumatic journey for two heartbroken souls. God has a plan for these two; a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him work in your life.
This is the first book I have read by Molly. I don’t read too much Amish fiction because I struggle to find it interesting, but I always want to give it a try (I have a few more reviews coming up in Amish fiction). I am really torn with my review on this one. Parts of it I enjoyed. I really felt the tension with Charlene and I did not like her at all, so the author did a great job of making Charlene the villain. But it really made no sense to me why Timothy would keep spending time with her when she seemed completely opposite from him. I didn’t feel that was believable. I also appreciate Hannah’s desire to teach and step out of her comfort zone and do something new and I liked her circle of friends. But if I am being completely honest I didn’t connect with the writing style in this book. It was very different from what I enjoy reading. Some wording felt unnatural and perhaps that was due to the Amish style? But I’ve read other Amish books before and didn’t really feel that way. The thought processes of the characters seemed forced, like that is was information the author wanted to tell us, instead of show us? Again, there were parts I did enjoy and if this is an author you have read and like then you will probably enjoy this book as well.
A copy of this book was given to me through the Celebrate Lit Team. All opinions are my own.
