Lady Guardians

The Wrong Side of Right

Rate this book
Birmingham, AL has been a hot bed for civil rights since the 1960s. The Lady Guardians Motorcycle Club has been instrumental in continuing the cause today. As vice president of the Birmingham chapter of the Lady Guardians, Lark ‘Lil Mama’ Decker is an integral part of this fight, especially when it comes to police brutality. Things get tricky when a Caucasian security guard saves her from being accosted by a group of aggressive teenagers. Lark finds herself enthralled with this man as they launch into a whirlwind relationship.

Fenton Knoll is smitten with the pint-sized beauty from the first moment he lays eyes on Lark. Too bad she hates cops. When he delays telling her that he is not just a security guard, but a full-time officer in the Intelligence Unit, he is playing with fire. An unfortunate shooting involving a young, black single mother exposes his secret and launches Fenton into the national spotlight, as he fights for his freedom.

Lark has to choose between believing the love of her life, who has lied to her, and her club sisters, who have taken the side of the victim. Both sides believe they are justified in their position. Placed in the middle of a racially charged case, Lark must determine who is standing on the wrong side of right.

This BWWM novel is raw, yet sexy and ends on a HEA

Lark Decker is Vice President of the Birmingham Chapter of the Lady Guardians. She's single and ready to mingle. Lark spots a viable possibility at an old school R&B concert. He's working security and their eyes meet several times throughout the entire night. When Lark is accosted by a group of rowdy and randy teens with ill intent, she is rescued by none other than Mr. Security or rather Fenton Knoll as she soon finds out. Fenton asks for her number and she gives it to him along with an invitation to attend an after party hosted by the Lady Guardians.

Fenton shows up and after a bit of dirty dancing on the dance floor, they take it outside and then eventually to her apartment where things go from hot-hot-hot to the roof is on fire, we don't need no water. They christen all the rooms and surfaces in her apartment and Lark finds out that Fenton is a man that voraciously loves the sweeter things in life. When weekend plans are nearly ruined by an old biddy, Fenton steps in to shut ... it ... down! However, Fenton has a big secret that he's keeping from Lark, trying to find that ever elusive right time to spill the beans!

When trouble finds Fenton, I was left wondering what Lark's reaction would be to the situation, given her past history. I so appreciated that this author didn't take the easy way out. When Fenton explains what happened and shows his vulnerability, Lark showed true tenderness, love and compassion. It was a sweet, sweet moment. When faced with losing everything Lark proved she was a person of integrity, loyalty and courage.

I haven't read all the books in the Lady Guardian Series but this is the best book (I've read) in the series thus far. I loved this couple and I'm gonna need a novella with a wedding in the near future!

Highly, highly recommended! Read This Book!

I voluntarily read an ARC of this book.

NOTE TO AUTHOR: I am requesting a dark mafia romance from you to tackle in the future. :-)

The Wrong Side of Right is a steamy MC romance written by author L. Loren. This story is set within the Lady Guardians world, and it can be read as a standalone romance. So you are aware, this story deals with a lot of complex racial issues, and it may push your comfort level.

The Wrong Side of Right tells the story of Lark ‘Lil Mama’ Decker and Fenton Knoll. It takes place at the Birmingham, Alabama chapter of the Lady Guardians motorcycle club. Lark and several of her sisters go out to a club one evening. She finds herself attracted to one of the security guards, and the chemistry is pretty dang hot!

Lark and Fenton deal with a lot of controversies, and at times it was sad and upsetting. The Wrong Side of Right had some strong messages to stand up for what you believe in, and make sure you get all the information before forming any assumptions.

It was an honor working on this project. Thanks to Xyla Turner for allowing me to fulfil a dream. The Lady Guardians Series features a wonderful array of talented authors and I am humbled to be a part of this world.

It was important for me to show a different side to police shootings that we see every day. I want us all to make sure we are asking the correct questions and investigating things for ourselves instead of relying on information fed to us by others. More times than not, the information is skewed to fit a certain narrative. Be careful what you believe.

Ok

The book had a positive message about how not all cops were racists and how we shouldn’t jump to conclusions without investigating first. As Lark said everyone has an agenda. I was disappointed in Justice’s behavior because you would have thought that with her being a lawyer and her husband the DA, she would be more cautious and not jump on the bandwagon. Lotus behavior was foul. However I would never have gone back to that club if I was Lark. People demand respect and loyalty but they do not give it. You should be allowed to have a different position unless it’s a cult. As for Big Sexy saying we can’t see each other anymore but you are my sister well that all talk, because if that was the case she would have supported Lark until the end and not let her alone in her hour of need. I really hated the final message of giving up at the end with Fenton leaving the PD. On the contrary he should have progressed within the department and try to change thing from the inside. If all the good guys leave we are left in worst shape.

"Lady Guardians: The Wrong Side of Right" by L. Loren

My Rationalization:

This was another good read of "Lady Guardians: The Wrong Side of Right' that featured Lark [Lil Mama] and Fenton. It was a beautiful read of what can happen when one stands up for what they believe and it was definite that Lark believed in Fenton. The storyline was quite something as we see how the Lady Guardians work and sometimes they can be wrong as they were in this situation. I loved how the National president of the Lady Guardians Lady Justice did apologize for what had gone on toward Lark [Lil Mama] and Fenton. I will say I still didn't care much for Lotus, and Larks' dad but I did love Lark's best friend, Big Sexy. All in all the story turns out to be a good read. It was good seeing how one will stand up for what they believe and stick to there guns no matter what!

Love in the Face of Adversity

I loved this novel in The Lady Guardians series. Lil Mama showed the strength of true love at the risk of everything. Fenton was a strong, good man who grew stronger with the love of a good woman.

Ms. Loren addressed difficult issues in a racially charged climate. She forces the reader to think about things from a spiritual and human perspective rather than socialistic views. Job well done!

Ooh Child

This book was hot, sexy, relevant and thought provoking!

I loved the chemistry between Lark and Fenton but I loved their loyalty to not just each other, but to fairness as well.

Never judge a book by its cover, don't take things at face value and never let emotions sway common sense are just a few takes from this book. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

What a message !

Fenton is white chocolate book bae goals on 10! This man was everything and the message weaved in his and Lark’s story was the truth. We as mankind could use this prospective in our lifetime. Also one of the sexiest stories I’ve read this summer. Hot for sure!

Great

I totally enjoyed seeing a different side of the realtime issue of police shooting unarmed black women and men. Sometimes there is 2 sides to the story but we are usually quick to jump on the band wagon without knowing or looking for the facts.

Gripping

With what is going on now in 2020 especially with G. Floyd's death and the "Karen's " this was a gripping story line.  It is very hard to trust the police even though they are many good cops. But as the saying goes "one bad apple spoils the bunch ".  It definitely kept me interested from the first page to the end. Very apprehensive during a couple of touchy scenes, that I had to put the book down for a few minutes before continuing. The sex scenes were very very hot!! It is well worth reading & also check out Xyla Turner's 10-88 which addresses the police & race also. Thank you again L. Loren for another fantastic read!!

A Female with an excellent spirit!

I am so awed by this account by way of fiction, that reminds us to search out the truth before just accepting a narrative of account when we know the person! Be true to yourself and the integrity of your heart, sometimes in spite of the passion that may be coming from the other side! Thanks to Ms. Loren for this truly entertaining lesson!

Fighting for what's right

This book started off slow at first but ended with a boom. I love how Lark and Fenton each had to come to each others side an defend each other. Protect who you love and honor despite what others think.

Wrong side of right

That was the right title. And it goes to show that you cannot believe everything you hear even if it in the news. You cannot trust everybody, and you should have faith in your self and trust your instinct. I am upset that Fenton did not tell lil mama that he was a cop. I knew she would find out in some screwed up way before he told her.

If this had been a full-length novel and the so timely and desperately needed topic dealt with more depth, this could have been an excellent book. For me, it was a disappointment - for a few reasons.

Firstly, I can't forgive the whole lack of communication issue that lead to Lark not knowing Fenton was a cop. That is one of my least favorite tropes in romance and both vastly overused and highly unrealistic. Who goes months without sharing with their new love what they do for a living? Or more to the point, who goes months without having general day to day conversations about 'how did your day go' which would lead to being a cop? I was however pleased that whilst it was made clear that Lark was pissed at having been lied to (and a lie by omission, especially something like this IS still a lie), she was still ready to step up and defend her man because she knew him, who he was and what he was (not) capable of. That was surprising but such a fabulous turnabout.

Whilst I appreciated the inclusion of the scene in the grocery shop and how Lark was treated by EVERYONE there (AKA the experience of 'living' whilst black in America), the whole strawberry (!) thing was a bit ridiculous. Had they actually fought over the item I may have understood, but not with how it actually occurred.

I loved the fact that we got to see that not all cops are bad, are racist and act with bias. But without denying that James is representative of some black folks and their well-deserved feelings about the corruption that is 'all cops stick together' vs actual justice, it was such a shame that he was used in the way he was and had started out the day spouting nonsense about the partner he had been working with for THREE YEARS. His issues about Lark was the usual male privilege (albeit not white) at play by him making up nonsense about her and not accepting that she just wasn't into him. He could have been written with so much more nuance, rather than the one-dimensional character that I saw briefly. His relationship with Fenton could have been a major part of the narrative, rather than him just popping up as a plot device. I felt the same about Lark's dad too who showed up so briefly that I felt it was just for 'angry black man' rep.

The behavior of the ladies at the club was beyond forgivable to me. Where were their bonds of sisterhood? If your 'sister' is giving you both opinions and facts and you still just ignore her, that shows a lack of respect and trust of both the sister and the facts.

It was also a let down to me that Fenton, a non-racist white cop, was written to give up the fight, when it's precisely people like him that need to join and stay in attempt to gain a foothold in all police departments. That is where the hope will come from IRL and would have been a fitting end to this story.

Right Love 💜

On edge reading which exploited racism-being black/African American in a white world, abandonment, exposing corruption on the police force, isolation, determination, standing by your man and proving his innocence; steamy erotic sex, quick bonding of soulmates! I can’t wait to explore more of this author’s writing!!!🦋

The sexual antics were off the chain. I saw a couple not their color. I laughed, cheered and cried. Worth the read!
