About the author

Norman L. Geisler (PhD, Loyola University of Chicago) taught at top evangelical colleges and seminaries for over fifty years and was a distinguished professor of apologetics and theology at Veritas Evangelical Seminary in Murrieta, California. He was the author of nearly eighty books, including the Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics and Christian Ethics. He and his wife lived in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Kind of an interesting viewpoint on ethics, though it did rather seem to me the author was trying to have his cake and eat it too; he kind of cherry-picked the aspects of moral relativism and moral absolutism he liked and mashed them together.

When dealing with absolutism, Geisler gave legitimate arguments for and against the various theories of it. However, he tried to dismiss all the different non-christian ethical philosophies with about a paragraph each and it came across hasty and a bit: "*wink wink* we're all Christians here and know these guys are wrong anyway so I'm just going to give token arguments against them so we can pretend this is a well-rounded book". The author would have been far better served reserving non-christian ethics for a different text and instead focusing on his far more complete Christian side of things.
