Francis August Schaeffer was an American Evangelical Christian theologian, philosopher, and Presbyterian pastor. He is most famous for his writings and his establishment of the L'Abri community in Switzerland. Opposed to theological modernism, Schaeffer promoted a more historic Protestant faith and a presuppositional approach to Christian apologetics which he believed would answer the questions of the age.

- No Little People -

This collection of 16 sermons by Schaeffer outlines how God uses and directs finite human beings for his infinite and holy good. Some sermons were just ok, being convoluted in certain parts. But the majority were really good.

- True Spirituality-

On the plus side of good. Francis Schaeffer provides two parts to this book in order to show and differentiate the differences between true and false spirituality. The first section has to do with our new relationship to Christ and how the Spirit’s work in us helps us to desire God in a full and true sense. The second part deals with our new relationship to sin, how we learn to hate it and kill it as spiritually renewed beings.

- The New Super Spirituality -

Schaeffer follows up his work on True Spirituality with this very short work on super-spirituality. Everyone has heard of that genre of people who are spiritual, but not religious - which is a fancy way of saying they recognize the need for God but don’t want to submit to Him. Schaeffer outlines how plastic this world has become and the role that the church and evangelicals played in pushing it along quicker than it would have gone otherwise.

- Two Contents, Two Realities -

This short essay by Schaffer focuses on orthodoxy and orthopraxy. In a circle, one informs the other. Sound doctrine and honest answers to honest questions leads to true spirituality and the beauty of human relationships.

I particularly enjoyed the emphasis on doing things God's way, making room for intellectual questions (not just brushing everything aside and say "just have faith") and letting love be the driving force for our actions.
