First Certificate Avenues is a 15 unit, topic-based coursebook which prepares students for the exam while at the same providing them with a motivating course at the intermediate/upper-intermediate level. The Coursebook is attractively designed in full colour and is accompanied by a set of two cassettes, and a Teacher's Book which provides thorough support to the teacher as well as an answer key and tapescripts for all the listening material. A special feature of the units is the fourth lesson which focusses on the five papers of the exam and offers the learner the opportunity to practise the various exam task types. The coursebook is particularly strong on preparing exam candidates for Paper 5 The interview, a part of the exam which learners abroad find especially difficult.
