Steven Kellogg is an author and illustrator who has contributed over 90 books for children. He is best known for writing books about animals, for which he credits his grandmother .
Certain descendants of Sir Hefty Garlicberry Wimpleton Flump try, in this unique tome, to decide what kind of animal to add to their small family, currently made up by a young girl, and her older Papa. The illustrations, the eccentricities of the various vendors as well as the prescribed necessities of the companions for sale are all delightful. Even though this may be the hundredth time i've been through this book, it always makes me smile - and, frankly - i still can't decide.
This is a very silly book with complicated text that I simplified in part for the little ones. The pictures are funny though, and the whole thing was pretty charming in general.
