With a Foreword by Starhawk, whose Earth Activist Training courses helped inspire Teen Earth Magic.
Teen earth magic is possibly the most comprehensive and inclusive magic book I have ever read and worked with. I have had it as a pdf for many years and just got it as a book. I already have post it notes all over it. It’s not just for teens. As an adult practitioner and teacher, I constantly reference this book for ideas for classes and refer back to it in my own practice.
Teen Earth Magic makes ritual liberatory and accessible for everyone. The writing is really straightforward, and the interviews and comments from teens are thoughtful and direct in the way only teenagers can be. You don't have to be a "witch" or even call yourself "spiritual" to do the activities in this book. If you just love nature, or are unsure of who you are spiritually, or are just curious, go buy it.
I cannot say enough good about this book. This book is deeply earth-centered, without being preachy. It teaches without being condescending. And actually has practical skills as well. It's absolutely full of great stuff. Lots of pics, and easy to read, with both descriptions and instructions. Any teen, even a near-teen and, me, a far post-teen, would find this not only delightful but useful. We've already made use of the labyrinth layout. How much do I like this book? I'm getting one for my granddaughter.
Although this book comes out of the Teen Earth Magic camp, there is so much rich and valuable material here for people of any age who want to go deeper into ritual, magic, social change, and connection. The material clearly was developed in collaboration with teens and young adults, rather than talking down to teens. There are rituals and workings in a wide range of different modalities, and the whole book is organized and laid out in a clear and user-friendly way. Highly recommended!
This book is a breath of fresh air among the vast genre of primers on earth-based spirituality. It's extremely open-ended, user-friendly, beginner-friendly, and transparent in its language. It attains excellence as an instructional text without any hint of preachiness, and is a very welcoming introduction into the Reclaiming tradition and paganism in general. I'd especially recommend it for anyone who has experience in a summer camp setting, regardless of age. Absolutely fantastic book.
