A poetry collection including works by Whitman, Stevenson, Lear, and De la Mare. A Brief afterwod describes the curriculum experiment which preceded the publication of the original nine volumes.
"The Poetry Book" is an excellent compilation of simply poems and nursery rhymes, written in several volumes. With poems ranging from Mother Goose to old folk rhymes, this Book 1 collection is a wonderful and age appropriate tool for teaching children aged Pre-K through about 2nd grade. It is also useful for teaching vocabulary words and letter recognition, as well as teaching literary devices such as onset, rime, rhyme, alliteration, and assonance. This series is definitely one to keep around.
Actually, the book I read was The Poetry Book - 6 published by Huber-Bruner-Curry. I tried to add this book on Goodreads, but my entry from 3 days ago still hasn't taken. So this is the best I can do, I guess.
Anyway, the book I read was one I recently purchased at an antique store. It was published in 1926 and had some wonderful poets: Sandburg, Longfellow, Thackeray, Wordsworth, Whitman, Tennyson, Emerson and many more.
