Edgar Cayce Encyclopedia of Healing

Rate this book
From Acne to Xeroderma, almost any health problem you are likely to experience has been addressed by Edgar Cayce (the sleeping prophet). I trust Cayce's information and the remedies in the Encyclopedia of Healing are 99 percent common eat healthy, exercise, and reduce the stress in your life. If you're looking for some magic cure, though, you'll likely be disappointed. Keep in mind that most of these remedies were prescribed for individuals with several ailments. For this reason, I wouldn't go swallowing any strange concoctions before getting a professional opinion, but I would trust these case studies as a guide for better living.

While this may sound crazy to some, the avid reader will understand perfectly; this is one of the most boring and interesting books I have read. It is evident that the author has spent a great deal of time on the research for this book; but her repetative recording of that information works better than a sleeping aid in the evening. Although th information is presented in a boring manner; the section that I found to be of greatest interest was the disease, cause and recommendation section.

In this section, a disease is described, as is the number of readings Cayce completed on this disease, as well as his findings for cause and cure. There were three specific entries in this section that drew my attention; breast tumors, arthritis and scars. Having been born with dysphagia and cancer during the mid 1950's, the prognosis for my living more than a few weeks was relatively thin; but, my mother was a believer in miracles and here I sit some 50 plus years later.

I am about to take up my mmother's belief in miracles and follow the general cures for the three aforementioned afflictions. I most certainly will keep everyone updated on my progress!

As a record of Edgar Cayce's readings, it seems to be a well researched look at the medical information he provided via his readings. It removes all the context from this information, making it less useful, however. As a medical guide it is questionable and in some instances fairly dangerous. The treatments described don't seem to be guidance from more enlightened beings, but reflect the technology and science of the time as well as the spiritual fad for various light therapies. Also, he suggests conditions such as uterine cancer can be treated with Lysol, which, while a good disinfectant for external, non-biological surfaces, should not be used internally.

Not much information for each entry. Some (not many) of the recommendations seem like bad ideas
