Love shape shifters? These whimsical tales are sure to captivate! Six stories in one amazing book. All shape shifter paranormal romances waiting to entertain you!
Elorah can’t seem to shake Rowan’s amorous advances. In their cat and mouse game, there is no question who has the advantage. The statue atop the bank building fascinated Terra from day one. But was it truly inanimate or was it alive? Lorena awakens to a room in Hell but when the alpha Hellhound announces she belongs to him, can she escape his watchful eye? A unique mix of two species, Draco seeks more from his best friend, Esma. He will stop at nothing to prove to her she is the one. Jax howls for his delectable Harlot- Ivy- but pursuing her is too dangerous for both of them. Walker seeks forever with the gorgeous scuba diver; however, instead of treading water, she is swimming away.

3 stars There is a *content warning*. I love anything paranormal, and I have read several of TK’s books and enjoyed them, so it was a no brainer when I saw this book was out. Shifter Shorts is collection of 6 short stories full of sexy shifters and their fated mates but the road to love is never straight forward. The stories are so short that some feel like they are over before they begin. This book may not be for everyone or should I say some of the stories may not be for everyone. What I like about T.K. Lawyer’s stories are that they are a little different and this is full of that. There are fighting couples, some wimpy and some undecided heroines that I wanted to shake, some had characters that I liked and others I didn’t, some that I wanted a bit more erotic and some a bit more love, some flow better than others and some don’t, some are dark and others darker, and all had danger of some kind. It is TK’s fresh take on characters that are sexy and stubborn shifter Alphas, but not your typical shifter types, there are gargoyles, hellhounds, cats, sharks and more that would do anything for the love of a good woman. They are whimsical short shot tales as I like to call them or bite sized tales that were intriguing enough to keep me reading. I like reading something a little different and that’s what these tales are. All in all, you should give this collection a go as you may be missing out on some good stories. Step out of your comfort zone and give it a try.
It's a series of excellent short stories, shifters of all kinds. Some of the stories are dark, some are not but a great mixture of them. I loved the Hellhound story, one of the darker stories, but it makes you think. To me the true sign of a great story or in this case stories.
A collection of short stories full of sexy shifters and the feisty mates they fight for. The stories were entertaining to read but none really captured my attention they were just okay for me.
Out of all these six short stories, I think there is one that I kind of enjoyed. However, with these being "shorts" they literally are so short there is nothing to any of the stories.
Cat and Mouse: This story irked me. I can't stand when a female plays wishy washy with the male and then decides she wants to be the jealous lover when someone else is flirting with the male. Elorah can't decide if she loves Rowan enough to forgo their friendship to be in a relationship. When she finally does give in to him, she all of sudden becomes a dense airhead and decides to go one last night with Jace. Even though she doesn't consider it a "date", but knowing that Jace has been spending a large amount of money on wooing her.
Gargoyle Mine: This is probably the one story I would say I might've liked out of all the shorts. I liked the idea of a gargoyle shifter, because it's not the most common shifter that authors write about. However, I grew frustrated when the author left readers out of important details about Bryant's history, but yet he had told Terra everything. This would've been nice to get to read about. As a reader I question why Bryant's family had to move when they were younger? Was it an issue with what they were? Why does Bryant pretend to be the statue on top of the bank?
Release the Hellhounds & A Mate for Draco: Well Release the Hellhounds is definitely not something I would read on it's own. It's darker than the other books and ends rather abruptly. A Mate for Draco is little better (and when I say a little I mean by a small margin). Once again we have a wishy washy female. But all of a sudden after being captured she decides if Draco rescues her she'll give a relationship a try with him. I mean she had 2 weeks of silence from him and still hadn't changed her mind of taking their friendship out of the friend zone, but then all of a sudden she's convinced she loves him and will be with him forever. Nope, nu-uh.
House of Harlots: This is the kind of story I'd expect to see as a novella (or in this case a short). There wasn't so much information given to readers so they wouldn't feel as if they were left in the dark on issues. Nothing was really left out in the open. Jax wants Ivy, when she decides to give them a chance his enemies come knocking. He leaves out of some misplaced blame and decides she's better off without him. His pack gets involved and bam they are back on!
Haven: Another interesting shifter story. Walker is a great white shifter who has the hots for his best friend. This like House of Harlots is another that I expect to see as a short story. Nothing left out in the open and these two get their HEA.
Nothing is what it seems. So, my oh my, this is the first book I have read by this author and honestly, I had zero ideas of what I was getting myself into. The cover seemed innocuous and that intrigued me, and the synopsis had me completely curious. Six stories, six couples. Each story is its own story. The only thing they have in common is a shifter finding their mate and the journey they must go through or in some cases survive to get that happily ever after they never dreamed possible. Cougar, Gargoyle, Hellhound and more await you inside the pages of this wicked little book. While just over two hundred pages each short story only takes about two hours or so to read which was perfect for a crazy week of delays and no school. Short escapes into an adventure that leaves you on edge begging for the characters to escape and get a chance at happy. Looking at you “Release the Hellhound”. Before this story the first two were almost sweet and very rom com in some respects but with the warning in the synopsis this was the story that intrigued me the most. It did not disappoint, Lorena and Brian/Ezekiel found something precious in honestly the top tier of terrible places and timing, but it gave them the fire he needed to find a way out after so many years of holding on to hope he was rewarded with his vixen. Each story leaves you with a sense of ease as they find their way to their own HEA. Knowing they were coming but honestly in moments not seeing the light myself it was satisfying to see how they got there. I will certainly be keeping an eye on this author in the future. Each world is completely different from the one before. The characters are so diverse and unique in their own ways. And bonus the female main characters were not the typical supermodel-esque physic they had curves and were real.
Romance, fated mates, hot as hell shifters, what more could you want from a collection of short stories?
In the first story, Elorah is a young woman who is always running away from Rowan, she knows that she wants him and that he wants her, but what she can't understand is why, especially when they keep playing cat and mouse, but who will win in the end?
The second story is one where a woman called Terra goes to sit in a coffee shop opposite a building with some fascinating statues, but the more she looks, the more she sees, but is this really happening, or is she imagining it, that is the main question?
The next story is heavier, but just as good where Lorena wakes up in a room in Hell, but she is not alone, there is a Hellhound in there with her and not just any Hellhound, an alpha who claims her, but can she really believe she is the one for him?
Draco is more than meets the eye in story three, he is a mix of two shifter species and is a one of a kind, but only one person Esma, accepts him for what he is, well mostly at least, but will she take a leap of faith and take their friendship further?
Jax is a wolf shifter, and he has his eyes set on Ivy, his Harlot, but when danger calls and a decision to be made, will it be a happy ending?
The final story is about Walker and his scuba diving love, but will a mutual love of the water be able to keep her next to him, or will his wild nature scare her away?
This is a collection of stories filled with passion, danger and seduction where fated mates are found, and romance is kindling in the pages of this paranormal romance.
I’ll be honest, based on the cover and the play on words in the title, I went into this thinking it was going to be much more lighthearted than it was. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good, dark story. It just wasn’t what I expected going in.
In addition to that, the content warning in the blurb is vague, so you don’t have a clear idea of what exactly the subject matter is that might be triggering. I’ll say this, if you’re not a reader of dark romance, or romance with dark themes, you may want to steer clear of the Hellhound story. But there are a few grey areas in some of the other stories as well. A content warning page with more specific detail would be a good addition to the contents of the book.
All of that being said, my favorite story in the book is Gargoyle Mine. I’d read an expanded version of it. It seemed to be the most fleshed out. The characters felt like that had more of a build up to things, whereas the other stories seemed to be instalove/lust. I’d almost say, because of the length of each story, the bulk of them read more as erotica than romance. Which again, nothing wrong with that if you’re expecting it.
The other story I enjoyed, and would love to see an expanded version of, is Haven. In my opinion, there are not enough aquatic shifter romances out there.
Overall, once you get past the incongruent vibe between the cover/title and the contents, and when you get in the brain space to read more steamy than story line, it’s not a bad read.
Shifter Shorts by T.K. Lawyer is a bit of a nibble platter of bite-sized morsels of tempting tasty treats. Having read and enjoyed several of Ms. Lawyer’s stories in the past few years, I thought I knew what to expect… but she surprised me (in a good way). This is a collection of six short paranormal romance stories bundled into one. The collection of stories are all shifter romance and range from friends to lovers, to darker more dangerous tones, sprinkled with some sweetness, a little sexiness, some spice, a touch of creepy tension, intriguing developments, gargoyles, wolves, cats, sharks, and hellhounds- just to name a few. ‘Gargoyle Mine’ was definitely my favourite- but I was surprised by the shark shifter story- ‘Haven’ as I had not read another shark-shifter story before, and wasn’t sure I would like it- but Ms. Lawyer has given me a taste for something new. While I did enjoy the collection, I felt like I wanted more. There were times I felt like the story was rushed, or abrupt. I think these stories are ones I would like to read longer, meatier versions of- as there are a lot of intriguing possibilities here. Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Lawyer does next. Happy reading…
Unrequited love, paranormal box set, mostly HEA, stubborn Alphas, skittish mates..... Cat and Mouse***-the title makes it obvious what type of romance this will be, the chase is on but who's doing the chasing? This was pretty good, interesting enough to read and short enough not to get bored with it. Gargoyle Mine*****-this one is my favorite in this set. I just love the concept of gargoyle paranormal. Enjoyed reading this one & love the characters. Release the Hellhound*-this was my least favorite in this set. It's more like horror to me, too violent creepy and gory. Just weird then thankfully ended abruptly. A Mate for Draco**-this is connected to Hellhound but is stand-alone. I did like this story a little better but it does have dark elements. House of Harlots***-this wasn't what I was expecting, based on the title which was surprising and the story was ok, entertaining enough to finish. Haven****-this is unique, to me. The couple seems well matched, since I can't swim I would be terrified though to have a shark as a friend but I like that they were friends first and enjoyed their story. I received a copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.
Shifter Shorts is a collection of six short paranormal romance stories, each featuring a human woman and a male shifter. Most of the stories are independent of each other, but A Mate for Draco picks up at the end of Release the Hellhounds and resolves what would otherwise not quite be the HEA we’re promised.
My favourite is Gargoyle Mine. The idea of a gargoyle shifter watching the world from the side of a building is cool, and something I hadn’t come across before. This story is also less dark than some of the others which I appreciated. It hints at broader aspects of the characters’ lives, leaving spaces for the reader’s imaginations to elaborate on the short story.
I also enjoyed Haven. Again, this isn’t as dark as the others and the nautical setting makes a nice change!
This collection gets three stars from me. I think it has quite a specific target audience as the stories have a lot of similarities including the women often ending up in dangerous, sometimes quite violent, situations they need rescuing from and the men having the end goal of mating for life. If this appeals to you, here are six stories you’ll love!
T. K. Lawyer is a first-time author for me, so I was excited to read something new and unique! I really enjoyed the fact there were 6 very different short shifter stories; it wasn't just normal shifter stories. I had never really read a book like this one and it was kind of refreshing to be introduced to a different kind of book. There are stories about a big cat, a gargoyle, a Hellhound, a dragon/vampire hybrid, a wolf, and a great white shifter. Every story was very different but at the same time kind of similar. The characters needed a little bit more developing, but that could just be because they were all pretty short stories. The world building was pretty well thought out, even with the shortened length. I was taken into many different worlds with the stories, you were transported into forests, cities, the ocean, and even the underworld itself all through the creativity of T. K. Lawyer. Some of these stories I would love to see as full-length stories and some of these stories were better left as the short stories. Overall, a quick, interesting read by an author I wouldn't mind reading more stories from.
These short stories all play off of one another in some way or form. I love what he author shows a vast amount of knowledge with dealing with each short story. There is plenty of steam with each one, so there is no fear in that. These stories are all about shifters finding their mates and the route to get there isn't always pretty. However, that said each story does take you on an adventure and packs lots of adult content. It was fun to read because the stories are short that it doesn't allow for you to get bored or feel like something is dragging on. If anything the book leaves you wishing for one to two more chapters from each story. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the quick once that each story set and loved the amount of steam put into each of the stories. It is a great book if you can't read a bunch because you could finish a story and put it down and then come back to read another. Sometimes life is busy and calls for something simple that you can come back to over and over again.
T. K. Lawyer is a first time author for me so I was excited to read something new. I loved the fact there were 6 very different short shifter stories; it wasn't just normal shifter stories. There is a big cat, a gargoyle, a Hellhound, a dragon/vampire hybrid, a wolf, and a great white shifter. All very different, and several I've never even thought of or seen in other stories. The characters were a little underdeveloped, but that could just be because they were all sort sorry stories. The world building was pretty good, even with the shortened length. The reader is transported into forests, cities, the ocean, and even the underworld itself all through the storytelling of T. K. Lawyer. Some of the stories I would love to see as full length books and a couple are definitely better left as short stories. Overall, a quick, interesting read by an author I wouldn't mind checking out more from.
This is a collection of 6 short shifter romances. Each one of them is unique and we have shifters of all kinds from werewolves, and cats to a shark which was a first and very unique story for me. I am a real lover of paranormal romances and I love the dymantic between the dominant shifter and their fated mate. All the stories are fated mate stories however none of them are straight forward or easy. The author does an amazing job of captivating the reader and each story is unique and different which I loved. I also loved how the fated mates to these powerful, handsome, breathtaking men were just normal woman with curves and insecurities. It made you feel it could happen to you. The only little thing for me is the stories even though they felt complete and finished with me being greedy I wanted so much much. I really enjoyed this collection and I can't wait to read more from this author.
Interesting set of stories. They were okay but nothing really jumped out at me. For some reason the first 2 stories do stick out. I liked the second story with the gargoyle. Those are always interesting shifters to read about. It was sweet. The first story with Elorah and Rowan meh I dont think that woman knew what she wanted. He was kinda stalkerish but hey he is a cat and I liked his character. She had these feelings she didnt understand but then she understood them and still didnt want the dude. She makes these dates with another man but for some reason he shouldnt be upset about it but when HE sees a woman she loses her damn mind. She cant have it both ways and she annoyed me to no end with her constant babbling and back and forth. Anywho...its okay if you dont have anything else to read but again nothing jumped out as spectacular.
This is an interesting collection of stories. Each story gives readers a look into a different characters and their journeys. Some are darker than the others and may be a trigger for some readers. These are all quick reads that give you a taste of the authors writing. There a shifters of all sorts in these stories and each couple has their own adventure to go through. Shifters and their mates must figure out how to communicate and work towards finding a happy ever after. There are some strong characters in these stories and emotions come in to play. It was nice to see that there were different kinds of shifters in these short stories. I would have liked a bit more character and plot development with these stories. I felt as if the stories were interesting but I was not invested in the characters and their plight.
This collection of “shorts” is a cute, sexy, easy read. Different couples, different shifters, different situations. All determined to get their mate.
This is not my first story from this author so I knew things would be steamy and interesting to say the least. Most of the stories in this collection I enjoyed more than others. With my favorite two being Gargoyle Mine and Haven. I would have loved a different ending for Release the Hellhound, but I did like the way Mate for Draco wrapped it up.
Many short stories are just a tease, a sample of a couple and their situation. Oftentimes I find it difficult when reading to get the full picture. A few of these shorts are that way, here’s hoping this author writes more about these couples because I really need more shark shifter and gargoyle stories!!
A fun book full of short stories of different shifter types, they love they find and the hurdles they have to overcome. My favorite of the short stories was House of Harlots, I loved the heartbreak Ivy goes through and the way her and Jax come together. Along with all the drama with his pack in between. Cat and Mouse was another favorite, Rowan loves Elorah, but Elorah just isn’t getting it. Their story is sweet and I am glad he never gives up on going after her. After I finished Release the Hellhound, I was left wondering what was coming next, it seemed to end abruptly but we get an ending for Ezekiel and Lorna at the beginning of A Mate for Draco. I like how the these two stories flowed one right after the other. Gargoyle Mine was a fun and interesting read, I have never read a shifter romance with a gargoyle and it was interesting how Bryant or Ekkom came to be with Terra.
Shifter Shorts is a collection of six short stories written by TK Lawyer. There's a brief content warning, but it doesn't expand on what content can be triggering. Just a warning, some readers may find some parts of this book to be upsetting, in particular, the Hellhound story. I wasn't really sure what I was getting myself into when I started this book, as the cover made it appear to be lighthearted, but there is definitely some dark romance to this book so if that's not your thing, please be advised. Overall, I found the length of the stories to be appealing, as you could start one and leave off before starting the next one if you didn't have a lot of time to devote to reading. All of the stories involve shifters and their quest to find love. I found the book to be enjoyable, and I look forward to more from this author.
Wow! What an amazing compilation of stories! There is something here for everyone. TK Lawyer brings paranormal to life with a fresh new take on traditional, and sometimes not so traditional, shifters. Cougars, dragons, gargoyles, you name it! I love how protective and tender the male characters are with their mates, while fierce toward anyone who wishes to bring them harm. Even the toughest alpha male has a soft spot for his woman. Each story is spiced with action and conflict—both externally and internally—and kept me turning pages to see what happened. Sleep might have been lost reading these stories, but getting lost in Ms. Lawyer’s stories was definitely worth the sacrifice. I’m eager to jump into my next book by this author!
Shifter Shorts is a collection of love stories about different types of shifters. The stories are all fast paced and most have a happy ending. I liked the majority of the stories.
There was only one I did not enjoy which was “Release the Hellhound”. That one was too dark for my liking and did not have a happy ending. If you are triggered by SA, steer clear of this one.
My favourite story was “Gargoyle Mine”. The main character was a sweetheart always living in the shadow of her “hot” friend and found it hard to believe that love found her. That resonated with me since I always felt that way in highschool with my best friend.
I really enjoyed these stories, each one was different. Different personalities and characters, making it exciting all over again with each new story.
Shifter Shorts is 6 "short" stories that I truly found quite enjoyable. If you love paranormal/fantasy stories with some alphas, sizzle, drama and fated mates, this is a really good read. I love the uniqueness of these stories as the shifters are gargoyles, dragon/vampire, hellhounds, cats, wolves and shark. As each story has its own blend of shifter and mate, each couple is trying to navigate feelings while trying to figure out next steps and survive dangers with an HEA, which I love.
While I enjoyed all 6 stories, my favorite story was "Gargoyle Mine". I loved the gargoyle shifter and found it very different and quite enjoyable.
Each story left me wanting a bit more, so I am looking forward to more stories like these from this author.
In these series of stories, you have 6 different couples. I loved reading these stories, but definitely do not let the lighthearted cover fool you. I thought it was going to be a lighthearted series of stories that would get my feel goods going. Boy was I wrong. The hellhound story threw me off because I was not expecting something that I would normally read with such a lighthearted cover. Once I got over the hurdle that my brain was processing over the cover vs what I was reading, I got to fully enjoy the stories. They were as the cover says short. Each was a quick read with it's own good story. A lot of steam in each story as well. My only complaint would be a little better detailed content warning simply because the hellhound story is a little darker than the rest of the stories.
Shifter Shorts by TK Lawyer is a mix of Paranormal/ Fantasy / Shifter Romance stories that are short stories each focuses on different characters. My only complaint is I wish they were just a bit longer. Couple of the stories felt a bit rushed in spots. This collection contains a mix of shifter romance, dark romance and paranormal fantasy. My favorite of the collection would have to be Gargoyle Mine. I was definitely surprised by the shark shifter story as I’ve not read one before. I will say there may be some content that may be a trigger for some. I enjoyed reading this book and highly suggest reading it. I look forward to reading more from this Author.
What an interesting book. This is completely different Book all about shifter romance except each its a compilation of short stories inside this book. There is every kind of shifter you can dream up and my favorite was the gargoyle story as I hadn't ever read a shifter story about a gargoyle. That being said this book has a lot.of dark content and the books are mostly insta love/lust and they are definitely spicy sometimes to the point id say they are short Erotica stories with a shifter focus. The trigger warnings is pretty vague but it means business with some pretty dark themes so just be careful if that kind of content isn't your thing. Overall this was something completely different and enjoyable.
This collection of short stories definitely caught me off guard as the blurbs are rather short and the cover is unassuming. As I hadn’t read any of their work before, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I definitely enjoyed reading through these. I did take note of the content warning and really appreciate the author for providing that heads up. These are all paranormal romance stories that are short enough to fit one in at lunchtime. The only real complaint I had about this read was that I wanted more from each story! Haven was particularly enjoyable as it was a different kind of shifter that I hadn’t encountered before. I recommend picking this collection up and giving it a chance as you will find at least one that you enjoy!
First time in encountering this author but her fine collection caught my eye. One in particular was intriguing because I had not read one quite like it that I could remember. This has a mix that each one will catch your interest with them being a quick bite. The one in particular featured a hellhound alpha that was different. Also a fav of mine in here featuring a Gargoyle yes indeed. The water one was a surprise also not having read one of that type, especially being a shark is one I was leery of but turned out not too bad. All in all a very entertaining mix of paranormal goodies that can make a heart grow fonder.
This is an interesting mix of stories, all focusing on different characters. I found myself able to read through them quite quickly and some were definitely more engaging than others. I think each of these stories has the basis of something great, but would have benefited from being full length novels rather than short stories. I thought the authors writing style was great to read. The flow of each book felt natural and they were obviously very well developed. The stories have caught my interest enough that I would want to explore other work by this author. Overall, these are good stories and I found them to be enjoyable.
These are short, exciting, heart racing stories. While they are short, they are complete as intended. Even though I would love to see more of each character. One story is very intense so it would not be for those under 18. The stories are well written, engaging and will keep you turning the pages..This is the type of book to take and read while waiting at the Dr's office or soccer field. Those are the places I find myself with nothing to read, and a short amount of time sitting around waiting. This was a great time filler. I loved every story including the Hellhound! While this is a new author for me, I would love to read which story comes next.
