The Amazing Maddie Sykes

Rate this book
Have you ever felt like you were invisible? Like you could go right up to someone and wave your hands in their face without them seeing a thing? Or walk through a crowded room without a single person noticing?

Me too.

For me though, it wasn’t just a feeling.

~~~
It all looks so simple in the movies: get superpowers, save the world. But for Maddie Sykes, the power to become invisible seems to cause more problems than it solves. Finding herself unable to share her secret with her friends and family, Maddie struggles to find the right path on her own. Is she destined to be a superhero, a villain, or something else?
With the stakes rising both at home and at school, Maddie has to confront the truth about her powers and the dark secrets behind them or risk losing everything.
A teen / young adult story for anyone who’s ever felt invisible.
The Amazing Maddie Sykes is a captivating and fun read for teens and young adults that deals with feelings that are so relevant for the younger generation. This story explores the life of Maddie who is desperately trying to figure out how to best use her superpower of being invisible. Readers are taken on an adventure as Maddie tries to master her power, and they are taken on a journey exploring the cause of her invisibility. Readers get lost into the pages of this book as they navigate the challenges of grade school with Maddie, and they feel the highs and lows that she experiences. Maddie is a super relatable character, and the reader can easily identify with her feelings and behaviors that she adapts to deal with painful and traumatic events in her life. This book sheds light on one’s grieving experience, and it touches on some important factors for others to consider when someone close to them is dealing with loss. This is a great read for anyone looking for an exciting adventure that weaves in relevant and important challenges through which the younger generation has to navigate.
YA readers should definitely pick up such amazing books that justify their name. This sweet story starts from Maddie Skyes experiencing her superpower of becoming invisible, and then, her experiments with her power and her adventures begin. The highs and lows of her life are beautifully reflected by the author. While she wants to have fun with her newly gained power, Maddie’s responsibility towards the use of her power is also evident.
It’s exciting to carry on with the book as Maddie carries on from one little adventure to another. She relates herself to superman, and similarly, wants to do something good with her power. While you experience the roller-coaster with the character, the story towards the end gives you a dramatic, surprising climax. I don’t want to say more to not reveal the most heartfelt part of this book. Read for yourself, and you will enjoy raising your imagination to a new level. I feel good to have read it.
Wow. I just finished reading this book and my mind is spinning. Linton Darling has outdone himself.
I reviewed his first book and was impressed. But this one — let’s just say I’m happy I bought the paper version so I can reread it and learn to write more like this!
Maddie discovers she has the power of invisibility. She practices the power and experiments with using it for selfish purposes a few times. When she has the opportunity to use it for good, the effect is heart-warming.
But there is more going on with Maddie than meets the visible eye. She has a secret that builds suspense in an otherwise charming YA novel. My heart was racing toward the end, then it was breaking, then it was going “say what?!”
No spoilers. And I’d mention one of my favourite movies this brought to mind but that would give it away too. Darling crafts an unusually sweet yet mysterious story that will leave you happy you picked this one up.
If I could give 6 stars I would!
I bought this book with the intention of gifting it to my daughter for her 14th birthday. I took the opportunity to read it before her as curiosity got the better of me and I must admit that I absolutely loved it! It’s a great read, a story full of the creativity and the overwhelming imagination that we all once had as teenagers. Join Maddie in her emotional story of how she became The Amazing Maddie Skyes. This book will have you smiling and in tears. The story is well written and fresh. A great read for both parents and teenagers!
Fantastic read.
The Amazing Maddie Sykes is an amazing book with an original plot. Life can be tough, and we all have our ways of coping. Maddie’s is extra special. The writing is excellent, and I highly recommend this for readers in the 9-14 range; although, I quite enjoyed it as an adult.
