These are the rules that I’ve lived by since I opened The Grove Bar three years ago, but in the last thirty-six hours, I have broken most of them…repeatedly. And boy-oh-boy, did I break them.

Damn you, Burton-f’ing-Hayes.



I didn’t just break my rules with this sexy as sin man; I smashed every one of them to smithereens, and then set each one on fire and pissed on the simmering ashes.

Life was easy with my rules, but now that I’ve obliterated them, I don’t know what to do. Do I follow my heart and set new rules? Or do I stick to my original rules and risk it all?

DL Gallie writes spicy romance with elements of comedy and suspense. She currently lives in Central Queensland, Australia, her husband and two teenagers. She and her husband have been together since she was sixteen, and although they drive each other crazy at times, she couldn’t imagine her life without him.

Shortly after her son was born, DL began reading again. With encouragement from her husband, she picked up the pen and started writing. Almost ten years later and the voices in her head won’t shut up.

Damn, I have had a lot of luck recently with whatever ARC I have and loving it in the end. The same happened yet again with this one.

Oh my god, this was totally what I had been looking for, ever since my mood had started descending downwards because of the pandemic and studies.

The characters, the plotline, the romance, the writing - they were all so fantastic, I couldn't even honestly.

So good it was that I completely forgot to add reading updates or mark it as currently reading. Oops. Well a good novel does get you a little whacked out when you are so addicted to it.

So in the end, I have to say. There is no better book boyfriend right now, than Burton-fucking-Hayes haha.

I love them so much, I might actually re-read this..damn. This novel has me wrapped on it's little fingers, I can feel it.

But I don't care. I loved it too much, so I am willing to spin on it's directions.

This was my first by this author. It is part of a series but reading it, you don't need to read the others to enjoy this story.

We meet Nix who is an independent woman with rules to live by to avoid being hurt again. And we meet Burton who is all sexy man. They meet and it is instant chemistry! They're incredibly steamy together and if you like sexy scenes, this story is definitely for you. There is a bit of angst with Nix fighting her feelings but I really enjoyed Burton wearing her down. The story was pretty quick but I enjoyed the sweet and spicy it entailed.

This story is HOT, HOT, HOT!!!

DL Gallie is the queen of super sexy romantic stories and Broken Rules was like her other books,
fantastic!!! with characters that are absolutely entertaining and so easy to love.

Broken Rules is a short story, but the plot is brilliant!!!. The main characters are Nix and Burton. Their chemistry is pure fire. Their insta connection is just something either of them was expecting but the electricity that runs through them every time they touch is just something that is hard to fight.

Nix has so many rules to not fall in love. She is a successful business owner, who is sassy, smart and independent. She has done very well following all her rules until one day she mets mister hot and sexy Burton. He is the only one that has make her question her rules more than once in a very short period of time.

Burton is new in town after a bad break up. He is the new owner of a coffee shop in town and planning to make a new life for him. He never thought a new life would mean chase after the sexy bar owner Nix.

This story is a fun quick read, with so much steam you might burn but definitely in a good way!!!!

Book 4 in the Castaway Grove Collection and the first that I have read. Quick fun read about Nix and Burton. You know what they say about rules, sometimes they are meant to be broken and it was so much fun watching Nix break each one of her rules for Burton. Super fun and super steamy read that will have you smiling and fanning yourself the entire time you are reading it. I need to go back and revisit the previous books in this series. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Broken Rules is a book that makes you consider the rules in your life that you follow?

Nix, despite terrifying me with the huge quantities of tequila, is everything I wish I could be sometimes. Strong, sassy, independent, determined and not afraid to take or demand what she wants.

Then you throw in Burton Hayes... not only is he sexy as sin and everything Nix is determined to stay away more importantly though, Burton controls the coffee in Castaway Grove...something Nix can't avoid even if she wants to.

The banter between these two is enough to keep you laughing out loud, while internally you're screaming at Nix to forget her rules and get on board with #BurtonFreakingHayes

Can't wait to see what happens next in Castaway Grove and more importantly, how can I get invited to the resort where all these delicious men hang out

Until they aren't. Burton throws a big old wrench into her perfectly ordered but lackluster life. He makes her feel and that scares Nix to death. Burton on his own is lethal to her rules, but when she adds in copious amounts of tequila all bets are off.
This read is fast, fun, and sexy as hell. Ms. Gallie has a way with short, hot HEAs and always delivers the goods. If readers have read any of her Castaway Cove Collection, they have seen Nix as friends with other characters. However, her friends don't see life the way she does and refuse to follow any rules so they see no reason for Nix to do so.
Grab a cool drink, pull up a comfy chair and enjoy this trip to Castaway Cove.

Fun and flirty I really enjoyed seeing the relationship between Nix and Burton develop and the interactions between them were both humorous and hot.

Another hot read!! DL Gallie has done it again, Broken Rules is a fantastic read. I thoroughly enjoyed being along for the ride as Nix and Burton fall fast and hard for eachother even though Nix tried to fight their insta-connection. The banter between all the characters had me laughing so hard. There was never a dull moment, I didn’t want to put it down.

Nix lives her life by a set of rules but when she meets sexy barista Burton Hayes, all the rules fall to the back burner. I loved the back and forth with these two!!

I love a good Cat & Mouse chase. Silly, feisty, little mouse always running away from the persistent cat, who is always running after it to capture it. 𝘉𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘙𝘶𝘭𝘦𝘴 was a sexy kind of Cat & Mouse chase — Nix being the mouse and Burton the cat. And every time Burton got his hands on Nix, the most spectacular things would happen. Fireworks go off and then some. And then...Nix runs away.⁣⁣

I enjoyed the chase very much, and the banter that came with it. These characters, as well as the supporting characters, were fun and very likable. This story had a little bit of everything and was an entertaining quick read.⁣⁣

Burton and Nix were hot from the start and I couldn't get enough. You will fall in love with this duo.

You can feel the steam and the heat jumping from the pages. Burton and Nix were sizzling from the start and I couldn't get enough. This is a couple who you will fall head over heals in love with.
Nix has been hurt in the past and has created rules to live by so that she avoids being hurt again.
Burton simply put is the sexiest of sexy men!
Once they meet and it is instant chemistry! Nix fights her feelings for Burton. Burton is not giving up. The story reads really quick. Once you start you won’t be able to put it down! Grab a cool drink and be prepared for the heat.

The chemistry is off the charts; the banter is so well done. You will need a cold shower and cold drink.


A fast easy steamy read with all the best we come to expect from author DL Gallie. This was my second book by the author, and I am becoming a huge fan! This was a 4/5 read for me.

I loved reading this book and I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Nix (Phoenix) has a set of rules that she lives by when she opened her bar in Castaway Grove but when Burton Hayes comes stumbling into her life those rules seem to go out the window. Burton Hayes comes into town like a tornado causing chaos and has Nix second guessing everything. The attraction between Nix and Phoenix is hot, intense and they can't seem to keep there hands off of each other when they are around each other. Can Nix break her 5 rules for Burton and can Burton show Nix that rules are meant to broken. This was the perfect summer read and I can't wait for the next book in this series to come out.

Nix is a girl who takes after my heart & I LOVED HER HARD! The independent & sassy girl has some set in stone rules so she never falls in love. However, she never saw Burton coming. He's the new sexy coffee shop owner in town, and HOLY HELL! They have some serious heat that everyone will need their fan on high for. Of course even though she feels the connection, she's still kind of a flight risk, but Burton is up for the chase. Broken Rules is a short & sexy read that had me desperately craving more of. This had plenty of laughs, attraction and steamy times as we see Nix and Burton's attraction grow along with Nix have a bit of a meltdown about her rules she has, fortunately she has a good group of friends as well as staff to lean on. I haven't read any other books in the series, but will look to go back and read them now. The only thing that irked me was the over use of the word f@@@@ck by both Burton and Nix but mainly by Nix.

D.L. Gallie did a great job on this story, Broken Rules had a strong plot that was filled with many emotions, the characters were strong, the story was written well. Nix and Burton's journey had it's ups and downs but they were drawn to one another, the attraction was strong between them. Their chemistry was off the charts, it was sexy. These two were made for each other. Loved the bantering, they were great together.
