Ghost, Spirits, and Demons. Paranormal experiences aren’t usually part of the coursework for college. That is, unless you are Juniper Nevels.
Jun has had ghostly encounters all of her life, in fact she has come to expect them. Her two best friends, Dexter and Sterling have always been by her side to help her when they hit. Through battling the terrifying nightmares and spooky sightings, they’ve only grown closer.
Life as they know it seems to be perfect when in their junior year, their request for a co-ed dorm is granted. That means no more late night phone calls and facing her inner demons alone. What could go wrong with her two best friends by her side?
When twin brothers, Asher and Alex join the group, the sparks start flying. Then, during what should have been a fun ghost hunting trip, plans go awry. The group of friends turned lovers awaken something dark living in the hidden corridors of Dudley Hall. Now that it is awake, it is hungry … and it’s eyes are set on Jun.
Jun and her four sexy roommates must come together to solve the mystery of the haunting before the encounters become fatal. Will they find the information they need to stop the terror that increases with each day?
Is Juniper strong enough to lock away the malevolent spirit, or will she follow him into the shadows?
This is a fast burn, reverse harem romance. It's intended for readers 18 and up. Fully re-edited and uploaded on 6/10/19
Welcome to my author page. My pen name is Rowan Thalia. I published my first novel on February 14, 2019.
I discovered very early on that I loved writing. Poetry was my first love and form of expression. I’ve written poems since I was sixteen and have quite the collection by now! Some of them you can find in my two poetry anthologies.
I’ve always been an avid reader and writer of short stories. My favorite author of all time is Anne Rice. In fact my pen name stems from one of her characters, Rowan, from The Witching Hour.
It wasn’t until 2017 that I decided to push through and write a full-length novel. I started Binding Rayne (which went through several title changes at first) but struggled with the direction. In the middle of the first draft, I happened upon the reverse-harem book community on facebook. The complicated romances rooted in my author heart and before long my book took on a new direction. The Keepers of the Talisman trilogy was born!
Since then, I have written and published many more reverse-harem romance novels, most of them paranormal in genre. Never to be one to sit idle, I’ve recently opened a second pen name - R. Thalia . With this name, I began the journey of writing my first (non-romance) paranormal thriller. I can’t wait to break out and show the book world my full range of capabilities.
Thank you for all of the support and love that has been shown toward my book babies so far, I hope to keep surprising you with bigger and better projects!
Juniper has always had dreams. She dreams of spirits and darkness. College didn't stop them, either. Her friends had been sneaking in and out of her dorm to help but the light at the end of the tunnel flicked on. They finally get a suite in a co-ed dorm. This burst of happiness is shadowed by the fact that the room comes with a set of twins. One is cheerful and seems to want to get along with his new roommates. The order? He's a jerk. And rude to boot. But around all of that there's something dark going on in the dorm. The chained doors were a warning to stay out. Something they should have listened to. Because something woke up down there that refuses to stay in the shadows. It's following them, and it knows their names.
Spoilers ahead. This was a disjointed book. Between ideas that barely flowed to POVs that didn't mesh, it was like trying to read a Picasso copied by a first year art student with a paint by number set. If taken alone the plot is a decent premise: girl with dreams finds out they're something more and finds 4 guys along the way. Seems ok. But here's where it falls apart: * Juniper is supposed to be strong but comes off as foolish instead. And fragile. * She's supposed to be into alternative relationships but we only get a side eye glimpse of this through a friend and her guys, a one sentence sneak, at a party that is immediately dropped until Sterling brings it up later. * The background given barely fleshed out the characters. The skipping story doesn't help any at all. * The guys don't mesh well. Alex is a hot/cold snob. Asher barely has any identity at all. Dex is the bestie from way back, and that's all you get. Sterling is a quiet art student. * One mention of the possible relationship revolving around Juniper brings all of this together. No jockeying, no learning to cope with jealousy, nothing. Just instant capitulation and happy quint poly. In fact, the relationships that spring from this are as disjointed as the rest of the book. Two guys, who've been friends since kindergarten, suddenly get busy together. No hint of feelings for each other before that. Just boom, a POV that says it works for them and done. Not a mention after, nothing. Like being hit by a drive by truck that speeds off but you don't care enough to get the tag info. * Ghosts become demons, become more ghosts that behave differently, with barely a blink. How did dreams, more of a psychic remembering than haunting (I'd call it more of a dreaming psychometry or remote viewing than seeing ghosts) become a full on haunting with a demon possession plus vampire like being? It wasn't buildup, it wasn't a progression. It just suddenly was. * Crass is different from coarse. Juniper comes off as coarse. Crass can be fun and bold. Coarse is just rough speech with no felt emotion behind it. For someone who doesn't like being picked on for her looks, fat shaming is sort of hypocritical, don't you think? Call the lady out for her words not her appearance. * They sort of, halfway, kind of investigate what's going on in the dorm. But no one seems to care about the why. How? Ok. When? Then and now. Where? Their living space. But why? Nope. Why does Juniper see things only when asleep? Why is she seeing more now? No mention of her parents being same. * Grammar is shaky. There are punctuation errors, spelling mishaps, dropped words and more. * Her leg is injured but they never take care of it until it looks infected. And even then they pay it no mind during sexy times. The scene is over and then, "oops, my leg is bleeding". Worse, the guy, can't remember which, lets her walk off (no limping or pain??) to deal with it alone. No assistance, no caring words, no sorry and tender touches. Wth? There's more but I'd have to reread to find all that stood out to me. I refuse to until the authors announce that they've edited and rereleased it. Ending on a cliffhanger doesn't interest me. Not the way the book didn't flow. So, there's no grab to bring the readers back for a round 2. The plot line has hope. If they go back and flesh it out better, tweak some things, and do some revisionist editing, this could be something pretty good. I'd like to see them succeed. Being an author is hard, putting your brainchild out there for others to criticize is terrifying. But without criticism, you don't evolve. If this is to be a series, it needs a good foundation, and that's what book 1 should be. Shore it up before you abandon it for the next.
This is a good one. It is a fast burn and RH. But that's not even the best part of the book. The story line is excellent and creepy af. Just when you think that Jun and the guys got away more weird stuff starts happening. This story keeps you engrossed and on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.
Paranormal. Horror. Rh. 4 guys. Ghosts/Demons. Juniper has always had a connection to the supernatural. Usually by way of nightmares, but moving in the co-ed dorm with her two best friends and a pair of sexy twins it escalates to hauntings and more. Dang this book was off the charts 🔥🔥🔥. They all have an easy relationship so it's all fun. Definitely looking forward to read the next one. I really love ghost stories. And that classic horror ending made my heart warm.
I really enjoyed this book! I love romance and steam and horror and combined with RH there was no way I was missing this book. There were a couple parts that confused me, made me think the author skip it and we didn’t know until that minute it had happened but still love this book.
This book is crazy good. It’s not just sexy and funny it’s downright scary. The plot is incredible and although I won’t be able to sleep for a week, did I put the book down?..... no I didn’t. FMC is snarky and sarcastic and I love her. The guys are a mix of everything you need in a man. Trust me you won’t be disappointed.
An amazing collaboration by Rowen Thalia and Jarica James! Thrilling storyline that had me avoiding real life as I had to know what would happen next. This had me holding my breath, giggling out loud and squeezing my thighs together as I rode the rollercoaster that Juniper and her guys are one. Fantastic - a must read!
Our authors really made this book work with a perfect combination of scary, funny and smexy all together. Which is awesome because I don't read scary but this book I actually enjoyed and want to read more. I love the guys and how they fit together and all care for juniper. Really hope I don't have to wait long for book 2.
Wow that was so good!! I've never read a reverse harem book quite like this. The spooky and the steamy all mixed up together was so freaking good!! I cant wait to find out what else happens to Jun and her guys.
The premise is fun, I liked the characters. Jun in particular I really liked, she is sex positive and shows real potential to kick ass. The writing is smooth and when I enjoyed it, it felt like time slipped by.
Unfortunately I lost patience with the plot at 70% and fast-skimmed through the rest. Two things were in overabundance and lost its impact each time: the hauntings and the sex scenes.
After a point it felt like the sex scenes were poured in to pad out the story. It didn't add anything to the plot nor did it help to develop the relationships.
With regards to the haunting I'll give this disclaimer; as a mentally ill person I'm also super sick of the 'ghosts from the mental hospital' trope that horror leans heavily on, so this did heavily affect my ability to enjoy the story.
That said, we were given information throughout that wasn't quite contradictory but didn't mesh to give a coherent backstory.
The characters didn't seem to take the occurrences seriously, they'd be given advice on how to deal with it but followed only when it occurred for them to do so. They would be told to contact people for help and completely forget this? Their behaviour gave the impression that they didn't believe that they were in danger, even though they claimed they were scared.
It also suffered from too many chefs in the kitchen thing, with so many different ghosts posing a threat to the characters. It didn't escalate the danger, it just made me lose patience. I think it would have done a lot better to draw out the suspense and focus on just the one antagonist and his victims.
This s a book about ghost and demons and all things that go bum in the night. Juniper is a supernatural and see can see dead people she has two BFF Dexter and Sterling who are alway by her side especially when she has nightmares and they get to much for juniper. They are about to be put into teams to become an elite team and to live Together as a team of 5 and they will be with each for forever . the guys are put with twins Alex and Asher how there sort off no from the school but will they jell as a team.
Juniper is attached to all the guys and sparks fly between them all as they decide to have a relationship with each other expect Alex is not on board with this even thought he is attracted to juniper. He makes is feeling no about the fact he doesn’t want to be with them
Things start to get worst for the group after they go late night gosht hunting and they release a sprit who wants juniper and will do anything to get her it escalates very quickly they go and speak to there Rh but she brush them off so it is up to the group to find away to stop the ghost that wants her will they be able to find out how to stop him
This is a good story and is hot and steamy with a darks side and it ends on a cliffhanger and am definitely looking forward to the second book to find out what happens next
So I think it’s important to note right off the bat that I read this book after the revised version was released so a lot of the complaints I had read in the older, negative reviews have been fixed. That being said, don’t let those reviews scare you away because a lot of the issues mentioned were issues that I did not come across.
Now for my review... this story was pretty creepy and made me anxious while reading because I never knew what would happen next. The ghosts and the haunting as were all scary and super creepy to read about. I haven’t read many stories that revolves around malevolent spirits so this was actually pretty fun to read.
The romantic side plot with the developing RH providing a nice balance to the dark and scary stuff in the book. The sweet and steamy romance helped make the book seem less dismal with the haunting dark and ghosts. The steam level was really hot and the newly developing MM made it even hotter!!
I really enjoyed this book and the story the authors have created. It’s spooky, eerie, steamy, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this duet series if you want something a little different than the typical RH romance.
This book is not what I expected. at. all. I loved it. Its.. its.. I want to scream. *deep breath* Its a little scary, with ghosts and hauntings and the like. This is my first ghost book, and trust me when I say if I had known that before I started reading, I would have never picked the book up - but I am so glad I did. I almost put it down several times because I get scared easily, but the clear and wonderful writing and the storyline kept me hooked. It is 5 am right now, and I started the book around 12:30...I was not able to put the book down.
I really recommend this, even for those who are not a fan of, or have never read a ghost book. Just stick with the story, because if you put the book down due to fear, you will miss out on answers and closure and the lingering fear will continue.
#no-shame-in-being-scared
The book lost a star for two reasons. 1. The book was repetitive, in the events that happened and the characters thoughts and feelings. 2. There is little to no backstory on the MC or the world they live in. No backstory of how MC is “special” in the sense that these encounters are happening to her and not someone else.
A good read but the story was slightly overwhelmed by all the sex scenes which was a shame. Reminded me a bit of Laurell K Hamilton's work but she had a bit of a more balanced ratio between the story and the sex. Ghost, demons and possession are the cornerstone of the story but can we please concentrate more on that then her four male roomies. She has always seen ghosts and had vivid nightmares. Now she's hoping that the new room assignments would have her placed with the two best friends she ever had. She's known the two boys since forever and they have always been there for her. A pair of twins are added to the three in their new dorm. However the building they are in hides a secret - a locked barred off room. A room that the five make plans to investigate. However an accident, blood spilled, offers an open invitation to what has been locked away. Now the creature/demon wants her! Will they find out more about why the room was locked? Will they be able to fight the demon? Which of the four will she choose or all of them?
I was disappointed that I could not finish this book, but that's how it works sometimes. To me there were too many spelling/grammar mistakes, plot line issues, disjointed characters, choppy POV changes, and I felt like the story dragged on.
My mine issue was that things just didn't flow. Because of holes in the plot, I just was confused as to what actually was going on. The first time I felt lost was with the leg injury... When it first happens they get back to the dorm to clean it, only to see nothing there. Then all of a sudden she has a wound that threatens to "reopen". Then all of a sudden she's on crutches... I just, what?
I was excited to read this book because the sneak peek of the first chapter really drew me in. But everything after that left me wanting something more.
I love RH books, they are the main genre that I read. I've read slow burn, fast burn and everything in between and I have to say this was the most unrealistic one for me. SPOILER.....by 25% the most awkward character in the book is proposing RH when only 2 of them have history with the MFC, the others she has known as a classmate and his brother for less than a year- but there's no real argument or jealousy this early on? It just didn't feel right, it was rushed and unrealistic to me and put me off for the rest of the story to be honest. Fast burn is great but there needs to be more of a connection for me. I didn't notice any errors and the writing was ok. I didn't feel a whole load of character development either.
Pro: - decent sex scenes Cons: - unbelievable beginning of the sex scenes - lack of character development - lack of relationship building - trite plot - ridiculously stilted dialogue that doesn't match the supposed age of the characters - grammar issues all over the place - British/Australian/Canadian terminology with a story set in Louisiana - choppy character POV changes that mess with the timeline Conclusion: These two authors do not mesh well together and they apparently didn't have beta readers or hire an editor. They have been added to my "Never Again" list as a duo.
I hate to say this but... disappointing. That is really the only word I can use to describe this book. I wanted spooks, scary tension and mystery. I wanted real characters that I could actually kinda, sort of, connect with on at least some level. This book has none of those things.
The characters were all flat; their relationship was basically just sexsexsexsex, and the ghost was... how do I say this: His character had potential, but he was poorly written; lacking depth. And the ending was just Ugh.
I'm in love :) I like ghost stories a lot, and also RH and this is just the perfect mix of it. Jun is one lucky minx with her so hot guys and she is badass as she is so brave in shady situations. It is really well written how all of them clicks as a puzzle and it is adorable how all the guys are up to defend her and each other. We could call the story typical, dark girl with nightmare and some nasty shadows to chase, but it's so much more than that. I'm really curious how all this continues.
I just couldn't get into the book.. I was hoping it to have a more thriller part with some romance. But it was mainly sex.. I kept trying to wait till the end but it wasn't working. It wasnt even the slightest of real for relationships. I mean.. they all looked at her and magically want to date her? Yeahhhh... I wanted them to work for it. But I may have not given it the chance it deserves. Try it for yourself. Don't let my opinion deter you.
Sexy, edge of your seat, hot hot hot, spoktastic and heart wrenching! This was such an addictive start to a series! I loved Jun & her resilience! To have some confidence and an abundance of love to give after years of being knocked down and belittled it amazing! I loved the difference between each relationship and how each of the men brought a different aspect to the team. That ending though! I need the next book already!!! I can’t hang out on this cliff for too long!!!
Okay yes this book deserves 5 stars. the story line was just creepy that it kept me wanting more and who can go wrong with RHs and sex (twins!!) the mc is not your typical bubbly needy girl. She's learned to accept the darkness that follows her and she won't take crap from anyone. Book is definitely worth the read
This book was amazing!!! I loved it so much. Juniper is an amazing FMC and her story is truly unique. I love how the character's personalities all come together so cohesively. This story takes the phrase, "I see dead people" to a whole other level. Amazingly written and I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Loved this, a unique take on on RH college romance. The relationship building between them all is amazing and the story was gripping and I can’t wait for through the woods
Such a great story, has the spook with the romance. I love Jun, she's tough yet vulnerable. Her guys are there for her and each once different personality works in just the right way to take care of her.
Wow!!! Just wow! First book read by these two and I can not get enough!! Jun and her guys are easy to fall in love with and I cannot wait for book 2!! Keep up the awesomeness!!
The storyline was really good, but I kept getting distracted by the grammar issues, missing words, and even a misspelling. The story was slow to start though.
