Something Regency - Elizabeth He could have anything he wanted…except her. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy finds himself in the unusual position of chasing a woman rather than being chased. Miss Elizabeth Bennet is exasperated as Mr. Darcy, the rudest man of her acquaintance, is being nice—to her! How can she continue to despise a man who apologizes so well? Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride & Prejudice, Mr. Darcy’s arrogance and pride are equally matched by Miss Elizabeth’s prejudice. While Mr. Darcy hesitates to speak, his cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam, quite against his canon character, blurts his thought in the most inconvenient manner, adding to Darcy's distress. In this fast-paced novella set in Regency England, can they both overcome strongly entrenched personalities and the attempts to matchmake by the colonel to discover peace and happiness? Of course, they can. This is Mr. Darcy and his Elizabeth, he hopes.
Something Romantic – Lost & Found Miss Elizabeth Bennet is missing—vanishing without a trace from the library at Rosings Park. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy feels duty-bound to find the most frustrating young lady of his acquaintance. He is Elizabeth’s sworn enemy. Yet, when he comes to her rescue, she is forced to rethink her opinion. Trapped together for hours, each layer of their character is revealed until their masks are gone, and their worst fears are shared. Will Mr. Darcy’s arrogant pride keep him from finding tender affection and happiness? Will her prejudice withstand trials so a man worthy of her affection will not be lost?
Something Rollicking - Henry He likes her. She hates him. The puppy loves them both. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennet get off to a rocky start. Can three-month-old Scottish sheepdog, Henry, herd two stubborn individuals together long enough to realize they are the perfect partners for a lifetime? Join in the frustration and fun when Mr. Darcy is forced to retrieve his errant puppy daily as Henry scampers from Netherfield Park to Elizabeth’s home of Longbourn. Told from her point of view, when she repeatedly spies haughty Mr. Darcy humbly showing affection to the puppy, Elizabeth is forced to acknowledge that first impressions might not always be accurate. Danger lurks, causing them to work together until Henry is safe. Is Mr. Darcy’s bark worse than his bite? Will Elizabeth remain as stubborn as a dog with a bone?
Something Reflective – His Frozen Heart Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy arrived in Hertfordshire with his sister’s words ringing in his ears. “You have a heart of stone.” He had no reason to doubt Georgiana Darcy. Or so he thought—until he met Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Each time he was in her company, Miss Elizabeth’s impertinence chipped away at Darcy with her wit and kindness. By the time autumn turned into winter, he was captivated. In the springtime, Darcy felt stirrings of love. By summer, he would do whatever it took to convince her he was a worthy gentleman with a warm heart brimming with tender affection. This variation of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice is a 20,000-word glimpse into the Regency life of a man of means who learns to value the love of a good woman more than the wealth and position he was born into as the master of Pemberley.
These stories were published individually in early 2017 and are still available to purchase individually.
The chance to re-read four of those stories, of course. I loved these stories the first time through. I got a warm, gentle feeling the second time around.
I have read and reviewed all the stories in the collection individually. However, I loved having the opportunity to read them a second time all together.
The collection features the following stories: Elizabeth, Lost & Found, Henry, and His Frozen Heart
I especially enjoyed these stories and loved that they are long enough to develop the characters but also short enough for me to read them in waiting times. As usual with this author, the tales are interesting and witty, worth every minute and every penny.
I have all of J Dawn King's books written under her pseudonym of Christie Capps (and all but two of those written in her own name) and I have enjoyed them all. This one is no exception. 4 delightful little stories all well written, clean, romantic tales. One , along with its companion, I shall be dipping into over and over when I want a quick JAFF fix.
Elizabeth This was a really fun Pride & Prejudice Variation and I enjoyed reading about Colonel Fitzwilliam and Darcy and seeing how badly Colonel Fitzwilliam screwed up while trying to make Darcy look good in front of Elizabeth. He does end up helping later though. This was another enjoyable book by Christie Capps and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.
Lost & Found This was an enjoyable and sweet quick read that I thought the author did a good job of developing the characters of Elizabeth and Darcy as well showing how they overcame some of their misunderstandings in a short amount of time. I also enjoyed watching how they helped each other overcome their individual fears.
Henry This was a really sweet story and I loved Mr. Darcy's puppy Henry. I enjoyed reading about Elizabeth and Darcy becoming friends and when she stood up to him and pointed out how rude he had been. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.
This volume contains four stories of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Each story is different and each story is a joy to read. I love the Pride and Prejudice variations, and these four stories, each about 75 pages, will melt your heart.
Awesome short stories. Favorite was Henry. I loved how they worked together to save. Four different perspective, each is sweet and cute. Hope you enjoy too
I’ve been reading Jane Austen fan fiction since 2015, and J. Dawn King is one of the first I read… and adored. (For those of you not in the know, “Christie Capps” is a pen name of hers.) While life as an RN has kept me from much pleasure reading of late, I’m glad I made time for this delightful set of 4 novellas all featuring ODC (of course). Thankfully, this talented author did not fall victim to the dreaded information dump, a shortcut I see too often in novellas. She starts with action at times or well-written interior thoughts/other narrative. Several of these are strictly from Darcy’s viewpoint only, a constraint I enjoy when I read JAFF written by talented authors.
Here’s a few sentences about each novella:
Elizabeth: This should have been called “Cousins,” as both Anne de Bourgh and Colonel Fitzwilliam repeatedly throw monkey wrenches in the works for ODC… usually embarrassing Darcy. Especially the good colonel. He has no filter, which I found highly amusing. I kept reading just to find out what would pop out of this mouth next… and what Darcy would have to do for damage control.
Lost & Found: This is a confined-space romance. ODC gets locked in a secret passageway at Rosings. Until they are rescued, they have several arguments… but they are able to resolve them with logic and understanding… even when they get heated. Because of their intense situation, they get to learn a lot about each other quickly.
Henry: This is probably my favorite… because of totally adorbs Henry, a Scottish collie puppy that belongs to Mr. Darcy. The pup is so sweet and smart, and the author uses him to great effect to show character, revealing that Mr. Darcy isn’t so stiff and arrogant as ODG thought… and that Wickham is not a man to be trusted.
His Frozen Heart: This novella opens with Georgiana repudiating her brother after Ramsgate, freezing what he considers to be his already cold heart. He eventually decides to take small steps to unfreeze his heart… but he certainly doesn’t intend to find a wife and certainly not when he visits his friend in a backwater county. What I love most about this is that Darcy is an unreliable character. He misreads Elizabeth all the time; those of us who know and love canon as well as the 1995 BBC miniseries will see their interactions quite differently than he did! Read to see how his heart thaws. This is probably my second favorite… as I love well-done unreliable narrators like Mr. Darcy is in this story.
I borrowed this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
This is the story of the slow transformation of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy's frozen heart.
Accused by his own sister, Georgiana, Darcy escapes to Netherfield to assist his friend Charles Bingley. The collection is interwoven with reflections by Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Throw in a tale from Darcy's childhood, which explains the depth of the toxic relationship with George Wickham. It was wonderful to see the metamorphosis from arrogant , self-absorbed know it all, to humble, caring , approachable, Gentleman. Enjoy!
Everyone of your stories feels like a totally different story even though they are the same characters in each. Once I start a story I have trouble putting the book down. You make it hard for me to get any work done or do any studying when I get a new book! They are so enjoyable.
These original takes on Pride and Prejudice make for pleasant reading. They are well written and edited, and though variations, stay true to the integrity of the characters. My favourite was Henry, a little bundle of mischief that brings Elizabeth and Darcy closer.
