Take the Bully by the Horns: A Practical Guide to Confronting and Surviving Workplace Bullying

Rate this book
No matter how strong you are as a person, how good you are at your job, how wise at office politics, there is a nemesis out there for you. I hope none of you reading this find yours, and to those who have, I will share a quiet moment with you. It's similar to a battlefield. The PTSD is real. The damage to you psychologically and emotionally, is real. But these people, be they evil, mentally ill, or damaged in some way go on with their lives and rarely with any consequences. That's reality. Bullying is not calling someone a name. Bullying is a systematic destruction of who you are as a person.

‘Stand up for yourself if possible!’

New York author Aaron Freeman is an entrepreneur who describes himself as ‘I am a relatable, ordinary guy and not some ivory tower guru…a very pragmatic, “down to earth” person who favors bottom line results over pure artistry.’ His books to date address Public Speaking, Life Coaching, Self Publishing, and now Bullying. His books are short in pages (this one is 28 pages), but long on valuable advice.

Having experienced the effects of bullying in the workplace, Aaron opens his book with the following: ‘Bullies single out a person in the workplace and make their life unbearable. They operate differently from a mainly aggressive person who will harass almost everyone, except perhaps a few select individuals whom they favour. The bully tends to focus on one person, usually someone who is passive and is easy to humiliate to make the bully look powerful…Understand that while bullies appear in control and super confident, they may have a deep-seated injury within, which comes from childhood…their way of coping with their insecurities and low self-esteem is to become domineering and aggressive…’

After his informative discussion on the etiology of bullying, Aaron presents scenarios that explain the dynamics of bullying, how to deal with it in the workplace, the ways bullying is fostered, the reasons victims are bullied, the effects of bullying on fellow employees and the overall impact on the workplace, and a fine section on how to handle the situation when you are being bullied.

Aaron tops off this fine guide with anecdotes from people who have encountered bullying, a “down to earth” addition to his valuable session. Highly recommended for all readers.

Take the Bully by the Horns: A Tactical Guide to Dealing with Workplace Bullying by Aaron Freeman is a guide that lays out how to deal with a bully in the workplace. Having experienced bullying himself, Freeman knows what he is talking about. Though a short book of just twenty -eight pages, there is a lot of information to glean here, not the least of which is a strategy for dealing with workplace bullying. You will learn many things in this book from how to confront a bully (the right way), how to get help from others, to how to deal with your own emotions and inner critic and much more. This is a down to earth guide, written in very clear and helpful language. It doesn't matter how tough you are, how secure you are in yourself, or how emotionally strong you are, bullying can happen to anyone. Reach for this book if you are in the midst of a bullying crisis, or if you want to avert one in the future. Great information and highly recommended.
