This one had humour that's Naila Tariq's trademark. I laughed so many times I lost count. Usman, the naughty boy!

The story opens with the scene where Aarish is leaving his hometown. He has lost both his parents and now has to move to another city with his maternal uncle. There he meets his cousin Khurman. He also crosses paths with the nextdoor neighbour, Usman.
There are two main pairs:
Aarish + Khurman
Usman + Baila
It's not a simple, typical romance novel. Its complex, deep and yes, because its Naila Tariq, its so very intense. So get ready to feel all the feels!
I loved the interactions going on between Aarish and Khurman but gradually I realized I was a bit more attached to Usman and Baila's story/relationship dynamics. There's also one other romantic connection but I won't name the characters just to avoid spoilers.
Naila Tariq knows how to write romance and write it well. She gets you into the head of the lover when he's falling in love and you see and feel everything as if you were the only witness there.

Oh my God! she writes romance/love scenes like no other. She's one of a kind. These scenes remain rent-free in my head, they are so intense and deep in the best way possible. Love and obsession (the sweetest, healthiest kind) she does them justice! I just don't get it. How does she write like that? She actually knows a thing or two about love. She convinces you. She describes the kind of love that's believable and yet of the purest kind. You fall in love with the 'flaws' first - is usually her theme. They may seem shortcomings to others but in the eyes of the lover perfection.
Others would be calling her rude and he would be proud of her courage. 'Oh she knows how to stand for herself!' would be his reaction to her throwing a tantrum.
Naila Tariq always brings up unique topics in her novels. In this one, very deliberately, she discusses how animosity takes root between siblings with huge age difference. Especially when at first, the older one is the only child and a couple years later the second unexpected child is born. They find it embarassing.
Just like her other novel, there were scenes that are now etched in my mind.

The dialogue, the banter!

Its also a love letter to friendship. It talks about all kinds of love; the love between siblings, friends, parents and their children, with serious criticism on how our society views adoption.

Well, it was interesting. Loved lots of things in this book, Arish and Usman's friendship, Uroosa's character, and the girls' friendship. Usman's sense of humour was outstanding while his convos with Khurman were fun. Aibak was fun too especially where he met Arish for the first time. One thing that I really don't get is how someone can utter such heartbreaking words while he claims to have love for that person talking to. Farooq's character was a bit problematic, he was so aggressive towards Bella but still somehow cared for her without ever showing that.

2.5 stars- for Usman’s humour, their friendships, Khurman’s parents and some social issues mentioned in the novel like child adoption, age gap between siblings, etc.

Other then that, I must say it was quite repetitive and dragged. Also, there were many problematic points and stuff I didn’t like…
Still, you can give it a try… i’d say it’s tolerable for one time read (I guess😭)

(It’s hard to rate and review this, I am so confused😭. There are parts that I enjoyed and laughed hard at but then there were some other parts that annoyed me and boiled my blood 🧍🏽‍♀️- and I skipped some scenes too-)

This book is like a long, boring, and repetitive road trip with a dysfunctional lead. I'm glad the author got her act together in her later novels!
