The first book of home decorating and lifestyle ideas from one of America's hottest young designers whose signature style in painted furniture is being wildly licensed in paper goods, decorative accessories and fabric.
About Tracy Porter (by John Porter) Tracy Porter is effervescent; her energy and passion seemingly limitless. She’s a serial entrepreneur and a serious up-failer, with no formal education to hold her back. She’s a hyper-imaginative, never-quit, hungry-for-explosive-happiness girl with 25+ years in the creative + business trenches. The products she’s designed have sold more than $500 million at retail around the world, at stores from Target and Bed Bath and Beyond to Macy’s, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's. She’s been featured in various rags, from People to Elle magazine. She’s even been on Oprah for crissakes! Three times! She’s a great wife and business partner, and the best mom to our four boys. Oh, and she plays ringmaster of enough animals to sink an arc. She’s awesome and you’ll learn tons from her!
I'm still mourning the demise of Martha Stewart Living and am therefore constantly on the lookout for decorating and craft books that engender those same serene feelings I got when I sat down with a cup of tea and the latest issue. I had high hopes for this one, but it seems to be more of Tracy's personal photo album/scrapbook than a home interiors book. There are photos of decorated rooms, but there are also pix of animals, food, and kids playing dress-up. Nearly every picture seems to be taken using a orange filter - most of the photos are dark and dreary. There's one image of some sort of black metal candelabra sporting orange candles and decorated with hanging eggs. Halloween, maybe? No. It's an Easter decoration fit for the Addams Family.
I do like the painted furniture, but the muted, yellowy photos make it hard to see any real treasures here.
