I received this novella for free from the author’s website, having been added to her mailing list when I claimed a free book during a bookfunnel promotion. It took me about 45 minutes to read the eight chapters and I enjoyed it apart from the ending.

Gerry Bright cannot get over the murder of his 18 year old daughter, whose body was dumped and set on fire the year before. Convinced that the ageing tycoon with whom she was having an affair was responsible, he is devastated to learn that the man has escaped justice by dying of a heart attack, so tries to get revenge by attacking his son Paul instead. Paul survives thanks to one of his employees Donna, but she suspects there must be more to the story and decides to investigate.

I liked the writing style and this brief introduction definitely tempts me to read the free novel, intriguingly titled If Aliens Could Swim, soon. Unfortunately this just stopped just as it was getting interesting with an unsatisfying lack of resolution. This is the problem with short stories and novellas, there is no time for a proper story arc, so rather too much can be left open to interpretation. This was a shame, as Gerry made an interesting antihero. 3.5 rounded down for brevity and the number of typos in the text.

I originally thought this was one story but it's a collection of short stories, poems and at least one act. There's not a bad one in the bunch but the first story which I thought the book was about didnt even end really. Dont really feel like it was even a cliffhanger, just an unfinished story. I enjoyed the majority if the book, just not so much the first one.

Interesting take on revenge, even though the story never really got to that point because it didn't have an ending per se. The character development is good and the editing isn't bad, but it's a cliffhanger short story. Too many loose ends were left hanging.

Very imaginative
