This week, we are learning about the respiratory system in our homeschool. I started today off with this book, and the kids loved it. They were full of questions and discussing every point given. We're really enjoying these True Books. Great info and illustrations.

Good, basic information that an early school age audience can handle. The book looks old but there are some nice pictures and illustrations to help walk you through the process of respiration. Air travels through the lungs, oxygen is picked by blood and dispersed throughout the body via arteries. Oxygen passes through the capillary walls and into the cells. Carbon dioxide enters the capillaries and is carried by veins back to the lungs where it it is expelled.
The author also touches on the balance between animals and plants, as well as illnesses that can impact the respiratory system.
There is a nice list of sources for further exploration. I always like extension activities but there aren't any included.
