The Greatest Game: Daniel Knox Thriller Book One

Rate this book
A missing nuke. A cunning terrorist. A desperate gamble to save America.

When CIA analyst Daniel Knox makes a startling discovery, he's willing to do whatever it takes to neutralize the threat. But Daniel is a linguist, not a soldier, so he doesn't expect to find himself in the line of fire.

The powerful warlord his intel threatens doesn't see it that way.

Daniel soon finds himself thrust into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse on foreign soil with the lives of millions of families at stake. Out of options, and out of his depth, he must survive a maze of deception to outsmart America's enemies.

Time is running out-for Daniel and America.

This was an excellent read with an exciting build for a character, as he morphs from being a linguist on contract with the CIA to becoming an integral part of a new team. I would recommend this story /character to fans of a Tom Clancy-esque universe (with a slow build for both Jack Ryan and Jack Ryan Jr. characters).

I enjoyed this book and definitely look forward to the next in the series. As such, I would rate this book a solid four stars out of a possible five.

As with all reviews, this is merely my five cents worth

Great storyline and with enough twists to keep anyone interested.
A combination of thriller and mystery with some humanity thrown in.
Initially it seems that Daniel is out of his depth but with the right people supporting him and a goodly amount of smarts and determination he pulls through the learning curve quite swiftly.
I think the author is on a winner with this series.

In the same style and vein of Jack Ryan, Heaton presents a detailed, and in-depth look at the complication of the War on Terror as the narrative pulls the reader along. The final twists meet that great standard of unexpected, but also leave the reader thinking, “I should have seen it coming.”

Superb thriller about the background and inner workings on the fight and war on terrorism. I gained a little more knowledge and insight on Afghanistan and the Taliban. Great plot with the usual twists and turns to keep the suspense going.

Not one of my usual genres but... What a great book!

Obviously Daniel manages to survive (there's more in the series) but the story kept me enthralled and reading.

Loved the characters and their multiple layers.
