The Soul Stones of Faerie

Rate this book
Upon returning to Faerie, Drew learns the Dryads have captured Ian and plan to execute him as a spy. Joining forces with the Dryad peace delegation, Drew and Bi Ann race to Annwyn to rescue their cousin, but the Dryads place them on trial instead. Just as the tide turns in their favor, the Swansa issues a prophecy, which changes their lives forever. From dealing with arrogant Elves to defending against vicious enemies, Drew and Bi Ann's biggest challenge comes from the Faeries? character tests. One false move and their lives will end, but should they pass the tests, they earn the right to possess the most precious treasure in Faerie: The Pangari. To save Faerie from destruction, Drew must defeat a fire-breathing dragon, recover the hidden Pangari, and save his friend from damnation in Uffern. The only enemies more dangerous than a fire-breathing dragon are the Barghests, Fachan, and Lamia; one will eat you alive, one will tear you to shreds, and one will claim your eternal soul.

This is the second book in a series about two cousins living in England who enter the faerie realm through Stonehedge. Book 2 shows the cousins living in this new world with hardly a look back at their old world. They have a mission: to help broker a peace among the various “races” who live in this other world and have a history of mistrust—some to the point of war.

I found the second book a bit difficult to keep up with as there are many more characters and beings involved than in the first book. But then, I’m an older reader and it might be the fault of an aging brain. Still, the book kept me intrigued and eager to discover what Drew and Princess Bi Ann’s next adventure would be (cousin Ian was missing in most of this book, with promises of a return in book 3).

This is a YA fantasy series that anyone—young or old—would enjoy.

The Talismans of Faerie continues the journey that began in The Scions of Faerie, but this second book steps into deeper waters. The story grows darker, the emotional stakes rise, and the characters are pushed in ways they never expected. I wrote this book with the intention of expanding the world while also revealing the hidden costs of power, loyalty, and destiny.

Readers will notice that the tone shifts in this installment. The beauty of Faerie is still present, but the shadows are longer and the consequences are sharper. The characters face choices that test their convictions and expose their vulnerabilities. Some rise. Some fall. All of them change. That was important to me. Growth should never feel easy or convenient. It should feel earned.

The talismans themselves are more than magical artifacts. They are symbols of history, trauma, and the long reach of decisions made generations ago. As the characters uncover the truth behind them, they also uncover truths about themselves. I wanted the magic to feel weighty and rooted in myth, not simply a tool for spectacle.

What I enjoyed most while writing this book was exploring the emotional core of the series. The friendships, the betrayals, the quiet moments of courage, the painful moments of loss. These are the threads that hold the story together. The world is larger in this book, but the heart of it is more intimate.

By the time the final chapters arrive, the story takes turns that surprised even me as I wrote them. I did not want a predictable sequel. I wanted a story that honored the characters and the world while also challenging both. The ending reflects that intention. It sets the stage for what comes next and it does so with honesty rather than comfort.

If you enjoyed The Scions of Faerie, I hope this book gives you a richer and more powerful experience. If you are new to the series, I hope you find a world that feels alive, magical, and emotionally true.

Thank you for reading and for walking this path with me.

I love how this author weaves the different parts of the story together. Fantasy is my second favorite genre and I know Edwards won't let me down. He writes the good stuff. His world-building is impeccable! The different races with their histories and animosities provide a great backdrop. Throw in a couple of unsuspecting young adults who are brash and ignorant and let the fun begin!
I don't want to say anymore to avoid spoilers.
BTW, this is book two; reading the first book will make this book more enjoyable than it would be otherwise.

Thank you Editingle Indie House for giving me this ARC!

I enjoyed this book a lot! It picks right back up from the first book, with Ian and Drew navigating the divide between Earth and the Faerie realm. The story is filled with high-stakes adventure and a very interesting ancient magic system. The coming-of-age development for both cousins upon their return to Faerie and having to face new threats after defeating Turok.

The world-building is phenomenal, learning about the Faerie and their realm, learning how the magic system works, and one thing I also appreciate is that there is a glossary with all the characters, the magic words and their meanings, and how to pronounce certain words. It really enhances the reading experience!

If you enjoy mythology, heartfelt story/character arcs and transporting between different worlds, this book is an amazing read!

These are two reader reviews I've received.

I had a great experience in your story. I found reading to be relaxing. I didn’t get bogged down by long paragraphs explaining the countryside. I was in anticipation of what was next. I found this reading enjoyable without confusion or being led astray by too much punctuation or run-on sentences. - Bonnie White

I love this book!!! Your characters have depth, and the worlds came to life inside my mind. There was action, drama, and definitely a wow factor. Thank you for letting me have the joy of reading it!
